1:34 Yep. Learned this last year. Have a boss that is a wannabe corporate tyrant and began implementing rules that don’t even exist. Claiming we agreed to these rules when we accepted the job and signed the paperwork. Conveniently, this paperwork was never able to be found so he expected us to take his word for it. Long story short, I called HR and they gave me the honest answer about the falsehood of these rules. I relayed the information to my team. My boss didn’t like this transparency and illumination of his lies, so he called HR. Then HR called ME and told me to tell my team I got 100 percent of the information they told me wrong and I’m spreading inaccurate information. They’re not your friend, they’re for the company. I didn’t comply with HR’s request. She also didn’t like me inquiring if the phone calls are recorded. I wrote a statement on my experience with her and sent it even higher up the corporate ladder.

Excellent points. Read your company's guidance and procedure manuals, important. Document, document. Date, time, who was present, etc. Try not to gossip, talk about religion, or politics. Always keep your composure. Stay calm. Speak in a soft or low tone.

I immediately subscribed when you mentioned the mcat. All of this is true. I always knew not to tell anyone my ambitions or goals.

I'm starting my first corporate job. About the first rule, I just don't understand. People always say "Don't trust your coworker" but that means your coworkers shouldn't trust YOU. I know people can be petty, I'm not naive, but I also believe that you get what you give and that we need to change this "trust no one" and "us vs them" mindset. I don't know, maybe I am a bit naive or just ignorant of the corporate world. It's tough. I grew up in the streets where this us vs them mentality completely destroyed relationships and communities. I don't want to be like that anymore. It's so frustrating that these things are also in the corporate world.

The streets and corporate aren’t that different, one is just dressed up and prettier than the other. Most people are out for themselves, and everyone has a play. Whether it’s good or bad EVERYONE has a play. My mom used to run the streets and the best advice she gave me was “ if you just stay to yourself, you’ll be good” Stay out of drama, watch people, get your work done and you should be fine for the most part.

I used to take naps on my lunch break until someone told my boss they caught me sleeping on the job. I NEVER slept during work time. I took naps in my car DOWN THE STREET after that.

The advice appears really combative: I guess you've had some unpleasant experiences huh?

You know, the human experience is convoluted. I see you work in a lab (most likely) so you’re interaction with people may be limited. Let me tell you that the higher you climb in corporate the more complicated and frustrating it is. People are complex, therefore the interactions can be just as complex and intense. To believe it’s not is naive but I understand you may not have been given the opportunity in your career to reach such places and resonate with what’s being said. More importantly, Im a content creator so each piece of content will have its own passion depending on the topic. That’s why people watch my videos, they are engaging. Similar to how you just engaged with the content by leaving a comment. Its sad to read that someone of similar background views this as “combative”. Over a million people have seen this video and yet only you uttered the word combative. You’re entitled to your opinion as am I. Your comment is unnecessary, unproductive, attacking, and passive aggressive. So possibly you’re projecting and I get that, but try to be more positive when commenting on peoples videos. You get what you give and I hope no leaves distasteful observations on your videos.
