This started off as a silly idea that developed over time until it became a reality - A European EV road trip travel vlog. ‪@HyundaiMotorUK‬ kindly agreed to let me take an IONIQ 6 and attempt to do 5 countries in one day and with just one charge.
We started off in Folkestone, Kent (UK) before heading over to Calais on the Euro Tunnel (Le Shuttle) before making our first stop in Dunkirk, France. From Dunkirk we drove up to beautiful Bruges in Belgium, surely one of Europe's most beautiful cities; after a quick charge just outside Eindhoven in the Netherlands we then checked out the city before moving on to our final destination of Duisberg in Germany. Day 2 was a more relaxed affair and you can see what we got up to there over on Tom's channel (link above).
The Hyundai IONIQ 6 Ultimate AWD is the real star of this video, and of part 2 over on Tom's channel, the IONIQ 6 real-world range was very impressive, as were the overall aerodynamics that made driving as peaceful as it was enjoyable. It's a stunning car which I review fully in a separate video. I've driven the majority EV's currently on the market but this one has to be the current leader in the clubhouse - it's quite simply a sublime car to drive and to live with. I love it!
Obviously, something like this costs a lot of money and would have been impossible had ‪@Leaseloco‬ not stepped in to cover our travel costs and ‪@clenergyev‬ kindly offered to cover our charging costs. Thank you to them both, and of course to Hyundai, for making this experience so great.

It’s insane how much work went into this and the views are awful so far, gutted at the moment to be honest. Great trip though and what a car. If you check out part 2 on toms channel you’ll see even more of that glorious drone footage - great isn’t it?

I only watched this video because Jim mentioned it in another of his excellent videos, and quite simply I liked the sound of it. I have to say it's one of the best videos I've ever watched on KZfaq. Maybe I need to get out more? 😆 Straight up though....two normal chaps just like me (if you don't mind me saying that?) in an EV driving about a bit. Put like that you probably wouldn't look twice, but the banter between you 2 was spot on. Very funny indeed! Made me wanna be sat in the car with you having a laugh. Nice one! Not just that, but very interesting with some of the info you shared about the places you visited. And then the car. Having only ever seen one of these things for the first time today (yeah I really do need to get out more) it was good to see and hear what you both think about it in the real world. I've sub'd to Tom's channel as I liked his style a great deal, and I really look forward to watching part 2 soon. Wicked video chaps. Thanks for making and sharing it with the rest of us 👍🏼👍🏼

Far too many. FYI, Ypres is also well worth a visit to pay your respects to the fallen at the Menin Gate. The surrounding war cemetery's are immaculate also and very moving.

Sorry Jim that I've only just watched your great video, and part 2 on Tom's channel. Very disappointing the views aren't what you were hoping for, after all the work you both put in. I do hope though that you and Tom will find a way to work together again - you certainly make a good team. Sounds like Tom is a convert to EVs but I wonder whether you would have had the same experience doing a similar mileage in the UK during the school hols - our fast charge network is still woefully inadequate. Most of us can't afford to buy (or lease) a £50k car so would end up with a car which struggles to do 150 miles on a charge, suitable for short journeys (provided you can charge at home) but pretty hopeless for longer trips. As you can see, I'm far from convinced! Once again, many thanks for your efforts.

Yes, I think EV’s will only make sense as a second car at the moment for a lot of people but if you are fortunate enough to get something with decent range then it’s not such a big drama…unless you go down to Cornwall…I’m not trying to convert anyone, nor would I. "This car was obviously designed in a wind tunnel".... What I have heard is that the Hyundai designers (many poached from top Euro marques) were given a free hand and designed it without any wind tunnel testing. Only after the design was pretty well roughed out, they took it for wind testing and found it got a 0.22 Cd!

I went to the UK launch and listened to a presentation from the designer & product manager who explained that the aerodynamics were the primary concearn and primary focus of the design was it's drag co-efficient. They certainly got the baby bathed, however they did it.

Same here! It was honestly a piece of cake in this car and when I did the long Tesla trip a while ago. Both cars have a decent range though, both can fast charge and both deliver close to their claimed range (unlike some!)

Great Vid. Nice to see my favorite Belgian tourist clip joint Bruges in the sunshine. Love to know where you got the beer at 1.5 Euros. Disgusted to see ketchup on your fries instead of Mayonnaise 😉. I fancy an EV, but I regularly travel to Spain with 6 passengers covering 600 miles in 10 hours at 50mpg, before a refuel (5 mins) so an EV will always be a second car for now. Ironically I buy quality Belgian beer (Gulden Draak) cheaper in Spain than Belgium.

Mayo on chips? - I'm a father of two, I have an example to set! Gulden Draak is a bit bold for me; Estrelaa Galicia is more my jam when I'm in Espania. Cuidate, Jim

Great video, but it didn't tell us much about the car you were doing it in. I have seen this car up and close. i thought it was a bit plastic and cheap, if im honest .
