Brilliant video. The infrastructure is even worse over here in Ireland. What people need to be aware of is the scenario if E.V.s do really take off. With petrol and diesel sales then falling rapidly, both UK and Irish governments will see tax take falling rapidly. Then,they will have to increase the tax take on electricity used by E.Vs. Then they will be REALLY EXPENSIVE to run

I visit supermarkets, Morrison's, Tesco and Sainsbury's and I am amazed that I see drivers sitting in their E.V cars for hours while their cars are being charged. I often come back a couple of hours later and see they are still sitting there. What an insane way to waste your life. Do these drivers think that this pointless waste of time will save the planet ?

Hi Lee. I gave up firefighting recently and now full time with the ambulance service. EVs certainly do have there own risks with regard to fire or damage in RTCs. Fire services have detailed information on every vehicle with regards to isolation points and high voltage cables locations along with all other safety information (airbag gas inflators, rollover protection etc) It's certainly not the case that we can't put them out. Just have to be mindful of added risks. I'm with you all the way though. No chance I personally would be buying an EV with the way things are going. Just a thought for you, they have started trialing electric fire engines in some places. Can you imagine being told 'sorry about the delay in getting to you, unfortunately the closest resource is currently on charge at the station' 😆🤷

You’re absolutely spot on with everything you say about these EV’s. I think they’re very dangerous in many different ways. The day petrol and diesel has gone will be the day I give up driving. I might regret saying this, but I reckon I could beat any electric car in a race to Scotland in even a classic car, even a 54 year old classic car such as my 1968 Morris Minor. Starting with a full tank I'd only have to fill up twice and a 55mph cruising speed is not an issue as the EV is likely to be doing this speed a lot of the time to conserve charge.

I'm a HGV driver, I sometimes carry these batteries. They are classed as 'Dangerous Goods' and have to be transported under the ADR (hazardous goods) regulations. Even batteries which have been fully discharged have to be carried under these regulations. So you can drive with one in your car but if I've got one loaded in a wooden crate on your truck it's Hazardous !

Totally agree - and if you’re towing a caravan it’s even worse. We recent,y travelled to fort William from westyorks approx 300 miles towing a big caravan in my diesel Volvo XC60. Did it on one tank and took about 7hours with a couple of stops and keeping to speed limits. With a caravan I’d need to “plan” where to recharge a few times and I’d Need to unhitch at most of the chargers so it unlikely I’d get there in one day. There will come a time when all evs will be taxed along the same lines as all other cars. I can see the advantages as a city car where you are doing shorter journeys but in the real world they just don’t work for me - far too much hassle.

Remember when Richard Hammond crashed an electric car he was testing? the battery got damaged and it would spontaneously catch fire for five days after the crash, they cant be put out if the battery is shorting out until the battery goes flat.

I have now replaced my Jaguar I Pace with a petrol BMW. No more range anxiety nor any worries that the chargers are working and not already being used. Life is good 👍

Thoroughly agree with you. It is a form of control. I’ve driven for almost 50 years and have mostly had nearly new cars interspersed with some new ones. However, I’m dreading the run up to 2030 as I believe it will mark the end of my driving career as I couldn’t hope to fund the cost of a new EV and let’s face it, who would want to gamble on a second hand one with the prospect of a duff battery that could cost more than I would usually pay for a whole car! The Government must realise there are millions of people in this situation yet still they press on, seemingly oblivious to alternatives to Evs. It must be a plan to decimate traffic on the roads which would save millions of pounds for all sorts of reasons. Also, I’ve lived in 9 properties since my birth, NONE of them were suitable for charging an electric vehicle being mostly flats or terraced houses. I believe I read somewhere that over 50% of UK housing stock falls into these categories. This would effectively condemn most EV drivers to public charging from infrastructure that isn’t there and I doubt ever will be. EVs are total nonsense dreamed up by a Metropolitan elite who are blind to how most of us live. Anyway, keep flying the flag. I think the silent majority agree with you but won’t ever speak up for fear of being ridiculed as planet killers!

You're Missing the most important part of the creation of the EV. I have working in the mining industry for over 25years and currently there are three sites in the UK, for Lithium extraction. Two in Cornwall and one in Darlington. I can tell you these drill sites are becoming more and more expensive to drill. the bore holes are becoming deeper and deeper and greenfield site more and more restricted. The cost for the lithium extraction and then processing will start to put the cost of EV's beyond most people. From that i can see them becoming not cost effective, let not even mention all the other rare elements that go into the production of a EV. the carbon footprint used to create a EV is about 12tn, and a diesel 4tn. so before you even start the EV is less efficient and then it uses coal power stations to charge them. Its simply just a false and efficient way for propelling a motor vehicle. Oh and dont forget the massive leach fields in south america where any wildlife comes into contact with these Neuro Toxic lithium ponds die an excruciating death. Well done you, give yourself a pat on the back for the Mining you create, keeps me and my colleagues working. Mineral extraction and mining has seen a boom again. So thanks you fools, you really have no clue what damage these EV are doing to the Environment.

Just had an email from Instavolt informing me of the rise to 75pence per KW! Most EV's will average 3.8miles per KW during winter or less. Good job I changed to LPG now costing me 70pence litre and getting 8 miles per litre!

Started my EV journey in 2011 with a new Leaf. Went thru several EV from there on. Understood after 10 years that this is not the route to continue. Bought a Hybrid (Golf 8). Liked it at first, but as we moved rural here in Norway we found it not feasible to continue onward with other than a gasoline or a diesel. We bought us a diesel powered car and it was like getting a new and free life again. Then there is the control aspect of it and we deeply understand that a vast part of this EV thing is to control the people. I "they" dont like you you will not be able to start the EV or restrict the area for you to drive i.e. forbid you to drive to certain areas where this maniacs running the entire world those super psycopats like E.M. and his Teslas. No I enjoy my ride and will never revert to that silly thing.

Now when I did a trip from the Midlands to Anglesey in my small petrol hatchback in the summer I filled up before the journey and not once did I need to stop for fuel (only stop was to fill myself with fuel food) and I did the more scenic route going through the countryside where there was more stop start traffic, hills and variable speeds depending on the traffic on the road, all which can hurt fuel economy. I managed to get to Anglesey on half a tank of fuel and managed to return on the other half a tank of fuel. So far during this video you had to fill up a few times with the electrical juice.

One other thing I’ve noticed when you are charging is that there is never any cover overhead unlike fuel garages where you have cover to protect you from wind , rain , snow.

I'm not a fire fighter, but a radio controlled car parts manufacturer. Lithium batteries when incorrectly charged or faulty burn down the houses of hobbiests. You're correct, you can't put out a lithium battery fire. They are a force unto themselves. We are being run by mugs on a gravy train.

The clownworld of EV's was brought home to me by COP 26 in Scotland last year when Tesla EV's were laid on for certain delegates, there were no charging points for the EV's so they brought in diesel generators to power the temporary charging points! You could not make it up.

My opinion is that they want to eliminate everyone owning a car and using it daily, only about a quarter of the population will afford to run a car after 2030, it makes sense why they are not bothered in putting the right amount of charging stations required annually.

I will keep saying this, if you cannot pay with cash its a disaster waiting to happen. Internet down? No charging car. Your Bank systems down? No charging car. Card goes bad? No charging car. Bank acc maxed? ' ' ' ' ' Forgot / pick pocketed wallet? .. ETC ETC. I always have a little cash secreted on me ~(not in wallet). I keep some indoors. I can always ask my pals for a score. If I need their bank card they will laugh at me. No cash no EV for me I am afraid.

Lee, your the only one that I have seen on here that does any honest real world reporting on living with an ev, I know one would be fine for me for most of my journey's locally, charging at home etc. However there will be lots of negatives that are going to surface over the next years that can't be brought to light yet so at 67 years old I am happy to sit on the fence and stick with my diesel car and petrol motorbike. Electric car's were around since 1909 . can run for 3/4 hours per charge. J Leno has one. And this is the best we can do now. Hybrid/hydrogen is the way. 25k for your new Tesla battery. You're not going to buy a second hand electric car. Cause you'll be paying for the battery .

The only electric vehicle that makes sense are electric bikes for short trips - maybe up to 15 to 20 miles when you're charging at home and if the weathers nice and you want to get a little exercise at the same time that's a good electric vehicle, I am a 78-year-old male and it works for me. if I want to go further than that as you Brits would say I'll put a little petrol in my 2020 Subaru it registers that I have 503 miles of range and oh by the way that took me 4 1/2 minutes to fill it up. And it even has all wheel drive. The price of my Subaru versus a decent electric vehicle was about $30,000 less I can buy a lot of petrol for $30,000. If the old saying is true that time is money for you guys with those electric vehicles standing around the charging stations - wasting a lot of time - well you know the rest of the story.

I "recharged" my diesel Dacia Duster today - 10 mins from getting out of the drivers seat to filling up and paying to get back into the drivers seat. That gave me 548 miles of range. Given that there is no comparable EV that would do 548 miles on one charge that would mean you'd need 2 charges Lee - whats that ? 4 - 8 hours of your time to recharge the EV? Dunno about you I have places to be and people to see and I cannot manufacture an 8th day into my week that I can devote solely to charging.

I noticed most ev have about 180 miles of charge. That's about a quarter of a tank on the size of most fuel cars.. so Ev cars are driving on a quater of a tank.. that's why it's cheaper to charge.

A friend put his car on charge in the evening at home, only after a short while his home charger packed up, the home charger was only 9 months old, it’s taken 2 weeks to get fixed. He had to leave his car about 20 minutes away from home to charge. He got ride of his electric car after this

I’ve just picked up a brand new petrol motorbike, £10 to fill up from empty, £20 year road tax and £90 a year for a service. Maybe this is the way to go for commuting to work. THE FUTURE

I'm not a firefighter - but I've seen plenty of material released by many fire services discussing the difficulties with electric car fires and one of the really crazy ones is that even after they managed to put the fire out - it an spontaneously reignite again. Battery fires are nothing like a 'normal' combustible fire.

It is genuinely refreshing to see a channel that gives a very honest, frank, warts and all viewpoint, and shows using EVs in all/ any possible scenario to give everyone considering an EV a very objective perspective on things. I make a point of removing any emissions control equipment the manufacturer chose to inflict upon me, whether that be by physical or electronic means. I'm just about to take delivery of a 2022 Yamaha 1000cc bike, (I've only been waiting 8 months for it to arrive...) and job number 1 is to remove the 4 catalytic converters it had to have to meet Euro 5 regulations replacing them with a straight pipe, followed by ecu reprogramming to release the 20 odd ponies it's had strangled out of it. It will literally spit fire when I'm done. I didn't buy a mega fast bike just to have it neutered half to death to keep Ms Grunberg happy. My van has had it's DPF systems deactivated electronically, so that doesn't get choked up every few hundred miles anymore and my MPG went up from about 35 to about 55. I've exactly the same attitude to the jabs, the more some self appointed authority tries to tell me what's good for me, the more I'll resist. Unjabbed and staying that way, ICE 4 life.

While you're sitting there enjoying the time it takes to charge your vehicle, most of us ICE dummies are well into our trips or have already arrived at our destination. EVs are wonderful if you are rich, retired, are not in a hurry to get somewhere and have lots of free time on your hands. I can't believe anyone under 60 years of age would be interested in such a vehicle. Most of us don't have the luxury of sitting in a car for hours or all day or night waiting for the battery to get charged. I mean, do old people really have that much time to waste? Retired firefighter. EV fires are notoriously hard to cool,they constantly reignite. Many European fire services are now mobilising big skips to use as dams to submerge the stricken vehicles in water for up to 24 hours I can email footage from closed firefighting groups if you like??

Well in California (US) we had a no charge for EV between 3 PM to 9 PM because it overloaded our electrical grid that also includes the home AC system. Because we have 100° + heat and lots of fires in the woods and grass fires. So our electric grid gets shut down at the hottest point of the day. Lots of the population is leaving Ca. So I can see that someday in the future it will be part of Mexico again. 🇲🇽 LOL!!!

Electric is the way to go?!! Found out yesterday that the company I work for has trialled an electric truck ( DAF ) The stated range was 170 miles, but in practice, with the fridge running, heater, lights etc, it was more like 85 miles! The price of the vehicle wouldn't give you much change from half a £million, plus £140k to install the charger unit. At the moment there are no chargers available once on the road, so your 85 miles must get you back to base. Also if you have any issues, there is only one mechanic in the UK that has been trained to work on these vehicles. Yep, electric is the future 😂

Yes lithium batteries are extremely hard to put out. They can suffer from what’s called thermal runaway, which is why they are classed as dangerous goods in aviation and we are very limited to the amount and size of lithium batteries we are permitted to carry on board aircraft.

Stoke is made up of six towns. Stoke, Hanley, Longton, Fenton, Burslem & Tunstall. Hanley was chosen as the town centre, mainly due to the number of high street shops and retail outlets, and also the fact that the Potteries Shopping Centre was built there.

Another fun rant! I do a few 1000+ mile routes. And would choose the EV over a fuel car now - it's so much quieter and more relaxing to drive than you finish the day much less tired. It's also much cheaper - if you can use home chargers at your destinations. But you have a point about the current quality of UK charging infrastructure - it is patchy, and there is a bit of hassle whenever you have to wait for a charger, or drive from one out of order unit to another. Thats happened 2 or 3 times in 3 years - so not often, but these problems are annoying and need to be solved.

As for the parking camera`s on services or any car park where they`re situated. Cover your reg when you leave, they need 2 photo`s, without both of them they can`t work out the time. And it`s perfectly legal as it`s on private property, as long as you uncover when you leave all is good, stay as long as you like!

I been off grid for 61 of my 73 years old. A like number of years with boats without engines. At no time would I even consider having one to use any further from home than you have juice to get back. Grocery getter in a small town, GREAT as long as you don't expect any actual payback other than status symbol.

I Warned a mate I not to buy an EV I said it would cost him a fortune buying coffees and food whilst sitting about. He took no notice and bought one 6 months later he couldn't wait to get rid of it. I think when Lee's contract has expired on Porche he should get a sensible car and save himself money and stress.

Last night I went for the crappy old works Petrol Renault instead of the shiny new E208 electric ( a fantastic car to be fair). It was just too risky, the Pug was at 58 miles range, 38% and the journey was 52 miles. There would have been just too much range anxiety, and no chargers at all in that part of Wiltshire, I could have been stranded in the middle of nowhere . Sometimes there is just no substitute for ICE .

I used to travel UK to southern Spain 3 times a year in 25 year old MGB and/or 20 plus year old Ford Capri with no problems. Try it in an EV and see how far you get. That’s progress.

The Stoke thing is an odd mix. 6 Towns formed to make 1 City - Stoke, Longton, Fenton, Burslem, Tunstall & Hanley. Stoke has the train station & was/is where government for the area is, so it took it's name. Hanley is the City Centre as it's where a lot of the shops (what are left...) etc are & it's also the most central point, so it makes sense for it to be. Funny you mention the weather though 😂😂, yeah...coming from Derby, blue skies, soon as you hit Meir (the first entry point to SoT that way) black clouds, a degree colder at least, I've known it to snow at the North end of the City & be sunny in the South end of the City, it's very weird. But so many good things about Stoke, especially the people, just sadly been ignored & not looked after for so many years, like so many places in the Midlands & The North.

Anyone with a Brain could see this coming,great little shopping trolleys but for any distance runs their a waste of time,I friend of ours is going from Prestatyn to CORNWALL today in a Renault Scenic 1-5 DCI manual with the six speed gearbox, this vehicle will probably better 55 mpg on a run like this without any need to refuel on the way and will probably get her half way back on Monday when she plans to return. Could you imagine how many stops to recharge you would have to do to do the same journey and keep the battery in the range of 20/80% range recommended by the manufacturers to extend battery life,,what a waste of time I’ll stick with my diesel because at my age I haven’t the time to waste on all this NONSENSE.

I live across road from the Ravo pub. No drive to park on. Got no chance of trailing a cable across the pavement, along garden, through window to a 3 point plug!! It's a joke.

Out of curiosity I've just had a look at EV charging points in my adopted country of Romania. There are 861 in the country which covers approximately the same land mass as the whole of the British Isles. Bucharest, the capital has 200 but is in the far south east of the country so think of the geographical relationship of London to the rest of the British Isles! A quick check through the 28 (?) counties which make up Romania shows that the number of charging points in any given county is between 12 and 59 with the county where I live has 21. Nearest one to where I actually live is 22kms away in Sighișoara which is actually in the adjoining county of Mureș. I do own an EV in the form of an electric scooter for trips to the next village (6kms) where the nearest Bancomat (ATM) is located. Owning an escooter is not illegal in Romania although technically mine is only legal for m/c licence holders as it's capable of 50kph, double the speed of those legal for non licence holders and I no longer have a driving licence 🙁 Still, the only time the Poliția Rurală are in the area they stay in the little police station drinking coffee and doing paperwork!

If manufactures of ev’s just solely made tiny city cars that could cover 100+ miles, charge really fast, and cost from 15-20k, and promote them only as a second vehicle for local trips then that sort of thing could work, I’d call that “walking before we can run” and would give us a steady working platform to build progression with, but we don’t like to walk do we, we like to run really fast and trip at all the hurdles and make it all a complete waste of time and money in the end 🤦🏼‍♂️ The extra amount of pollution being created over the last 5 years or so from all the ev’s being created must be absolutely massive! And it’s only going to rise.

I drive a 7,000 pound 4 wheel drive 6 tire pickup truck in the US for 300 miles I'd need about 18 gallons of diesel right now that's about 72 dollars us and it's going down in price for what I make an hour wages it would cost less than any ev

I just want people to have choice, not be forced into buying something that's not practical. Here in the states, some fellas go and buy a big diesel powered pick up truck, but the fuel costs are too high. They will trade it in for (still a giant) a smaller, gas powered full size pick up. Sure, they sacrifice power, torque, and payload but at least for the most part they aren't stuck with the diesel one.
