Just found your channel and loving it. I’ve always loved raptors and now wanting to start falconry so learning as much as I can putting the ground work in so I know what bird is right for me and that I’m going to be able to give that bird my best. Looking forward to learning more from your channel.

Harris hawks are my favorite bird of prey species. They are so amazing! Once I finish my apprenticeship they are the first bird I want to train!

You make this look easy 👍 I’m doing all the ground work for 6-12 months to see if I can become a falconer I’m only just learning but already decided to go for a Harris hawk if I decide to go ahead with it all. Thank you for this vlog it was really helpful. Subscribed to you channel 👍

Technically the Harris Hawk is a Para-Budio (hope I spelled that right). What surprises me is that you can hunt them in the UK I heard that they don't fair well in the cold. I guess they really are just that versatile

I watched your top 5 reasons why not to get one and wondered, if you live in an area where there are limited hunting options, how do you go about finding land to exercise them?

One might get the idea that you quite like the Hariss' Hawk ;-) it seems to be a species that one could "grow into", from beginner to "expert", and enjoy along the way! Incredibly intelligent raptors, with some real "charms"??

Great videos! Not in a position to get a hawk currently but definitely a long term goal for me. How do Harris hawks typically interact with household pets like cats? You mentioned that they understand a dog’s worth when out hunting. What about with animals that have no benefit to the hawk?
@TerraHistoria6
@TerraHistoria6 3 жыл бұрын
If the animal doesn’t prove to be a threat to them and it is something they see day to day they usually end up completely ignoring such things!

Have you ever trained any Great Horned owls for falconry?

Noticed that bird is a bit more fidgety hooded. Does that hood fit properly ? Stretching his neck out like that can mean a poor fit. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Probably fixed the issue at this point but u definitely need a shirt mic instead of relying on the camera cuz that wind cutting in and your distance lowers the quality of the videos

Hi great video. I’m new at this I have a Male Harris, he is great had him since August 17 and we have been out flying every day since the 6th September. All going well, my question is it started calling in the garden whilst weathering, but mostly when it sees me first thing, we are out flying about 1130 am every day , does the calling stop after moulting as it’s a first year bird, Or is it normal, any advice please.

Freebird of reason Oddly, on our video five reasons not to get a Harris, one of the facts was going to be that many harris’ hawks will be vocal (not ideal if you have neighbours). They’re a social species and can become noisy for many reasons, the biggest key to preventing it is lots of hunting ASAP (allowing it to catch its own food rather than its new “parent”. This is why good land packed with quarry is key to any Falconry.

I have a question I can't get a positive answer on. Can my harris hawk eat before its cast . Would a hawk eat if not cast it's pellet in the wild. Thanks
@TerraHistoria6
@TerraHistoria6 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you’re flying the bird it’s always better if it’s cast from the previous days food, however yes it can eat before it’s cast and yes they do do so in the wild!

but what about low temps. I live in mid Canada. We get some bitterly cold winters.
@TerraHistoria6
@TerraHistoria6 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I’d fly a red tail there over a HH, I think in the right housing they can cope down to minus 10 but below that I think you’re better off with a more cold tolerant species

@@TerraHistoria6 thats what I've been flying the last couple years, but snow shoe hare are getting harder to find was thinking of going a bit more birdie. Am contemplating a passage gos, but I am a bit more social in my falconry. That's why I'm doing some HH research. Even thinking passage gyr, but those are a lottery draw for trapping permits. Just keeping doors open at the moment.
