There's nothing wrong with looking older. There's nothing wrong with being older. Ageing is a gift that so many don't get and I really wish people would stop making women (specifically) feel insecure about a perfectly natural process. Younger does not mean more beautiful and older does not mean less beautiful. Okay, I'm done now.

It’s not being OK with aging. Aging is a given. We all get old and there is no going back.

Well said! I feel exactly the same. Acceptance takes learning and understanding, and coming to know oneself well at every stage. It’s not automatic, just because we know intellectually that “age is a given.” Often it takes a bit of time to do this learning-to “get there.” We are all individuals who deal with life events and transitions in different ways, but mostly we all want to “Learn” to cope in ways that work for well for us in order to find and be our best, most vital (youthful?)selves. Justin & Dionne are doing that, and best of all, they are learning and doing that together. I find that positive and uplifting!@@stop_and_smell_the_roses

I started going gray when i was 31. I hated it then, and now at 70, i still hate it. My hair is blonde, with seasonal changes to keep it looking natural. My colorist makes certain that the gray goes away every 5-6 weeks. She also colors my eyebrows so they continue to look natural. My spouse’s family (brunette or black hair), have gone cold turkey gray. They look so much older than their years. I suppose at some point i won’t be able to keep up the hair coloring. When that happens I’ll pick a good looking gray, and go for it. Maybe 5 to 10 years from now.

THANK YOU. Sometimes it's our own perception of it that makes us feel the way we do about certain lengths of hair.. I'm overweight and even though I've lost 70 pounds and have more to go I stil feel like a very short hairstyle will make my face look chubbier.. I'm losing it slowly with no surgery or Ozempic just pure grit and determination and I've always thought pixie haircuts are pretty maybe next year I'll try it we'll see..

After being spoiled by the greatest hairdresser and friend for over30 years, I realize he can never be replaced. There was never a time that I didn’t feel my hair just felt right. He took the time, sectioned little bits to cut and blend. He knew my hair(4 cowlicks) and how it fell naturally. Shall I also say he was off the charts with color too. Are there any hairdressers out there that still take and schedule time enough time to take the time that truly make a difference? He passed away maybe 15 plus years ago. We were soul friends. He had many❤️. Love and light to Randy Jones of Jackson, Mississippi😇. Where are the natural born hairdressers?

Wish you lived closer. Everytime I get my haircut, it ends up not being what I had invisioned. It doesn't do any good to bring in a picture of what I am wanting because it almost always, ends up being waaaay shorter than I wanted. There is a two week after cut shock period, a two week period of it looking maybe not so bad, and then two weeks of it needs another cut. It doesn't seem to matter if I say "trim, shape, layer" or whatever and does not matter if I change styests. If I get a good cut, my hair is incredable, thick with a bit of curtl. Even though I get compliments on my hair, it seems that stylists want it to be short and set me up a six week appointment.
@justinhickox
@justinhickox Жыл бұрын
So sorry to hear that. I don’t think you’re alone. I’m not sure if you’ve tried this, but it may be worth it to use the photos to explain what you like and what you don’t like, then also make sure to show visual reference to what could be too short to write I also typically seem to still away from using any specific terms like players training, shit simply because those convene different things to different stylists another option would be to ask someone that has a similar hairstyle and ask them who they see. Then you can contact that salon and ask the seniors. Or ask to see someone who specializes in hair like yours. Then book a consultation before your haircut so you can talk and make sure that you think they’re a good fit before the cut appointment. Hope that helps a little.

This was me exactly for years. I felt like I only had 2 good hair weeks until my next cut! I get it. I finally found a stylist who has my hair type. She gets my trouble spots and quirks now. She will also cut it dry first, blowdrying it straight as my hair shrinks up. That way has worked the best for me and it's never too short.

#3 I made the mistake of trying to go blonde in hopes of having my silver strands grow in. Unfortunately (at 63), I only have about 24% of my gray coming at this point. The blonde was ok in the summer with a tan, but it made me look very faded out during the winter time. I have had all of that color cut off. My hair is much healthier, shinier, and more natural. Now I have a sprinkling of "salt and (dark brown) pepper", which works best with my natural coloring all year long.

Thank you Justin for such informative vids. Much appreciated! I've been very spoiled since I had my own private stylist (my brother) for most of my life. He knew what I wanted before I did! Great shape, fun colors, different looks. When I had to find a stylist other than...well, it's been difficult and frustrating. Just to get a good shape 🙏 and I look around and everyone walks out looking the same😑 plus so many "stylists" don't come up with creative ideas. I know, it's tricky. People can be very locked in to what they think looks good. Hence the hesitation to offer something different. I too let my hair grow out and was doing my color as well. 🤫 I have fine curly hair and finally cut it myself. I wear scarves, etc. so i wasn't going to freak if it was horrible. I'm an excellent camouflager! But low and behold my hair looks just like a "do" I used to pay for. It's not bad if I do say so and I'm very judgie. Anyway, the search/solution goes on. Thanks again for all the tips. They really are helpful.

I luv City Beauty products! Ty for the discount code. Everything u mentioned is absolutely correct & plays a part on yr hair texture, etc. when u reach Menopause. I have very long curly hair it’s coily. Long layers. I have an oval face. Olive skin tone. I’m now getting some “greys around the sides & top of my head.” My hair color is dark brown. I use to do foil highlights but I don’t like the damage to my hair n it does hide the grey. But, it’s a lot of upkeep. I usually where my hair blow out n it’s super shinny n looks twice as long. I’m 55 yrs old. I love long hair. I wear a part on the left side & flip my hair like a “Farah Faucet look” I like feathered back not towards my face. I have tons of volume n very thick hair. I do sometimes part in middle. As I can get away with either style. Curly I try to hide the part. So I have to explain to my hairstylist how to trim the layers so that when it’s “curly” it doesn’t look like big mushroom bush. Do u recommend a “U-cut in the back? Or a “V-cut in the back? Due to having the long curly hair past my back of my bra strap but very thick n healthy. I rarely use heat tools. Maybe twice a month. If curly I let air dry. I only use Paraben n Sulfate free Shampoo n Conditioner. I luv yr videos! I’m new to yr channel. Ty so much for yr insight. Please do more on curly hair even though I love it straight more often I still need the cut to focus on my curls n how they land especially the layers n in the back. Much appreciated! ❤❤

I am 63 and a total blond. I am actually having my hair dyed silver. I LOVE THIS! It just gave me such a sophisticated look. LOVE IT! My hair will not turn grey - my mother's hair never did turn grey so I have to pay big time for mine. Now I just need shape like you mentioned. I'm vey lazy. No bangs, no curls. But I can grow it to my rear end. It is very fine and thin but strong. Oh and I use Nutrafol. BIG DIFFERENCE!!!! Thank you for showing us about hair for really hold people!

I’ve always had dark brown hair and have colored it for over 30+ years. I have recently gone much lighter and am in the process of deciding if I should just let the gray probably white) grow out or back to coloring it darker again. I personally don’t feel like the light color suits me but my husband says it does. I do not currently have a stylist as I have just moved so I am in a quandary as to what to do

Justin, great suggestions! Been watching all your videos and they are so helpful. I noticed you don’t yet have an episode on styling very thin hair. I would be happy to be a Guinea pig and send in photos to explain the challenges. I am going on 57, bleach/color my own hair and style it daily. I’ve tried every style imaginable but keep coming back to the same style (which I do like) but creates issues such as breakage, etc. Would love to see a thin hair video that doesn’t involve cutting all your hair off. 😂 P.S. Tell your wife she’s a beauty. 😊

One key item that I've never seen addressed during the past several years -- especially amidst the "curtain bang/part down the middle" rage -- is the fact that parting your hair in the middle makes your nose look bigger. This was something that was brought to my attention in the 70's, so I started paying attention, and realized it's true. I stopped doing it immediately. It's funny to me that with all the thousands of current "influencers" and experts out there, no one has ever mentioned it. It's so obvious. So in addition to implementing your rule that a middle part makes it difficult to create volume, so many women would be amazed at how much more flattering their face would look by a side part. No brainer.
@stop_and_smell_the_roses

Middle parts makes the nose look bigger and side parts makes the jaw look bigger. I guess it depends on what feature you want reduced. A few years ago I heard that a side part helps camoflauge facial asymetry. I'm not sure if the side swoop goes toward the side of the more symmetrical side of face or the less symmetrical. Maybe Justin can speak to this?

I think I'll just color the roots around my face and call it good. First impressions yanno. AND, ty for telling about the long hair parted in the middle with layers, kills any height needed. I'll have to watch your other vids to figure out how to combat that before I cut my long, thick, heavy, hair

I’ll be 55 soon and am just now starting to become annoyed with the greys coming in especially around my face. My stylist has been using this cool herringbone highlight technique that has made a difference. Not sure what I’m going to do if/when the greys completely take over because I have brunette hair (with 3 shades of high and lowlights), fair skin, and hazel eyes. Super light hair including grey completely washes me out, but I’m also very low maintenance (only get my hair cut and highlighted every 3 months). It’s going to be an interesting journey 😅

I have been cutting my own hair for years now and finally have a style that I love and suits me and believe me I have been to lots of hairdressers, I used to work in fashion. I have very dense hair growth, one hairdresser said over twice the 'normal' implantation. I do a shoulder length cut then layer it up with thinning scissors to take out the end volume. I don't have a fringe, I'm 66 not 16 and I have grown out my white and grey hair after being pushed to doing so by various collegues in fashion. My hair is much better quality since I've stopped dying it. I never blow dry my hair or style it, I twist it up tight when almost dry with a strong clip and keep doing so for a few days and it gives it a lovely curly style. I also only wash my hair every ten days as I don't have greasy hair or dandruff or itchy scalp. I did try to wash it often when shamed by stupid people and I had terrible problems with itch and dandruff and it looked terrible. Now I listen to me and my hair.

Interesting concepts for mature hair, skin and color changes with aging. I am 64 years old with fine, straight hair and worn in collar length bob with longer bangs. I recently up my hair up in messy bun and several family members and friends said I looked so nice with hair up. Now I am thinking should I move toward pixie or shorter bob?? How to select, is my main concern. Just signed up for your photo submission. Thanks Justin.

Whew right now my hair is definitely wearing me! I lost my hair to chemo 2 years ago, but the hair that is coming back is extremely thick and wiry. Curly in come spots but mostly just kind of kinky/wiry. It's taken me 2 years to get my hair to grow to my collar bone, but the top layers are much shorter. I am still taking an oral chemo drug, but the newest 2 inches is more flat and straight. I really want to continue to grow it, but am thinking of cutting it shorter just to get rid of some of the w worst hair. I am afraid if J do get it cut, then it will just be equally as unruly but shorter. I think your video has great advice!

It’s a struggle! I lost all of mine to chemo in 2019 but mine came back thinner and finer. I’ve kept it short for the most part but last fall mine developed a weird kink. It’s now gone thankfully but our hair seems to change over the first 3 years after. With mine shorter I’m struggling to find a hairstylist that can give me the right cut without looking older than my 52 years 😂😂 I finally scheduled an appt with someone in the city that seems to know more about styling you, not just cutting your hair. I hope so anyway!

My post chemo hair did eventually get better. But it’s been 15 years now. It used to be very straight and now, even all these years later, there’s a definite wave to it that I never had before. I’m embracing the difference. I think if you can stand it, continue to let it grow out. The added weight of it almost helps straighten it a bit. Then go ahead and have the worst cut when you decide on a style/shape. I hope your chemo treatment did the trick and you won’t have to go through that again. ❤

My best friend finished chemo a few years ago. All her life she had long, almost straight hair but when it grew back it was wiry and curly. It didn't suit her at all but I'd never say it. Now a couple years later her hair is long and almost straight again and she looks like herself. So don't lose hope, the most important thing is you (& my friend) are alive ❤❤❤!

Hi, Justin. I recently lost my long time stylist when she moved away. Since then I’ve had three haircuts, all of them bad. Do you have any advice on how to find a good stylist, maybe some questions to ask before booking an appt, and how to work with someone new. My old stylist, who had cut my hair for over 30 years was awesome and I always thought her super power was listening. Other people seem to listen and then they proceed to do something different than what I asked for.🤷🏼‍♀️ And of course, after all those years, my stylist understood my hair and knew exactly what it would and wouldn’t do. She became a dear friend and I miss her on so many levels! Any advice you can share would be so appreciated, because clearly my efforts aren’t working. Thanks!

So WHAT IS YOUR SUGGESTION TO AVOID THE PROBLEM ON YOUR LAST PICTURE OF BULKINESS ON THE SIDES?…What about hair length and style for a petite person and lots of volume and abundant hair. Has height anything to do with hairstyle? I don’t think texturizing , it creates frizz and bulkiness as it grows. A short bob that will allow to pull hair back maybe. Suggestions? Thank you

I have been growing out my hair ( at 56 yrs. old ive never really grown it long, so would like to now) I do have bangs, but I do feel like I don't have any shape. My hair has always been paper straight. Its one length ( besides the bangs). It is a little past my shoulders. I have thin hair, but alot of it. After watching this, I may have to ask my stylist about "shape", this was another great video!

Hi Justin! I lost 200 lbs recently and I'm stepping into a new chapter of my life. When things were very bad I cut off almost all my hair. Now that I'm healthy and my hair is growing out I'm at a bit of a loss. My faceshape has always been "round" but now after losing the weight It may be a different shape and I'm not really sure where to start My mom and grandmother had thin hair as they aged but I am told that extreme weightloss also causes hair thinning. So I'm currently rocking some fine hair that has no real shape to it. If you have any direction you could point me in I'd be beyond grateful. Thank you so much for the content. I'm a young 59. I haven't changed my cut in 40 years except to let my fringe grow out. Since covid, I cut it at home; one inch off the bottom. It's fine and thin with a little wave at the nape. I put clips by my ears to give the illusion of more hair or bangs. I've had bad haircuts. When I went to the salon, they would use a detangler, which made any body I had disapear. If I blow dry it with a brush to smooth it, the hair breaks. My hair will hold a curl for a half an hour. I constantly battle static. When it's really bad, I put it up in a clip. I feel I'm in this hair style with no options.
