5 JDM Cars RUINED By Clout! WhistlinDiesel would've never stacked two Skylines together if all y'all Clout Bois didn't worship the Skyline so much. Actually y'know what, I think he'd still do it regardless, it's too Funny. Clout Chasers and Clout Culture has ruined Car prices and really the car community in general. People act like a car is somehow going to change their life, fix their non-existent Marriage, grow hairs on their chest, and make them a Main Character in Initial D, when in actuality, they'll be some broke boi bumming around in a 10 year old Civic they still bought for $20K because Modern Japanese Car Prices really be like that. You can buy a V8 Mustang for cheaper than a Civic SI in some cases. Like that's crazy. Y'all Weebs be wildin, even in the car community. Drew Peacock was right. Anime should've stayed separate from Cars. Y'all brought this on yourselves. I just make haha dumb videos, it ain't on me. I do still regret not buying an NSX though. I also regret my poor sweet dear child, the RX-7 FD from ever being desecrated by clout bois. Oh dearest daughter, how thou sanctity is forever stolen.

Yup had an opportunity to buy an s14 that ran and drove with a manual for 1k. The interior needed some work but was all there. Nowadays their prices reached not even worth it level and don't even bother look at them. Thankfully manage to score my affordable childhood dream car (Z32 2+2) for under 1k a few years ago before their prices started to creep.

That happened with a lot of cars from F&F. Dodge Chargers cost around 100.000-200.000€ here in germany. They mostly are in mint condition then and some had frame-off restorations, but still this is a lot. Other Muscle cars from that time in good condition cost around 20-40.000.

I’m importing my sprinter trueno (not ae86) for the same reason. Soon they’ll catch on to it because of the silver/black/red top. There was no hype around them because they didn’t think fwd is cool. So they younger hype/clout boys haven’t caught on to it, only the car models with the rb/2jz (which are already being bought up for a high price). It’ll be all over for 4age when they catch a taste of the ITB sound

@@shm-62u30 Ain't those basically 85s? Worth noting 85s are ALSO getting pricy, too. Let's hope the KP61 Starlet (the last RWD Starlet generation) stays under the radar, though. Most 70s and 80s Japanese cars tend to do that if they aren't an 86, Fairlady Z, or Skyline.

Honestly kills me to know that a clean NSX was only 30k max not too long ago. Been obsessing over one lately cause they just seem like awesome cars to drive around in, but seeing prices now for them being 80k+ is so disheartening. Now its another car in the “pipe dream” section

I always remember them being in the $70-$100k range, regardless of when I've looked. Be it 2002, or 2008. I must have missed the one time they were priced reasonably. A shame really. I've always wanted one of those. Maybe I can track down a price trend for them. It would be nice to pick one up for under $40k.

@@hybridAbsol Except a base/Carrera variant of the desirable 911 generations (911, 930, 964, 993) cost 3-4X of the JDM's i happen to like where i live. A basic 964 911 Carrera 2 is around 60K (cheapest aircooled Porsche), meanwhile R32 GT-R is around 50K with 970hp built motor proven with a dynoslip. I wouldn't take a GT-R tho, I'd much prefer a 4-door Sedan one with a CA18i (GXi) or RB20E (GTE) RB20DE (GTS)

What truly does hurt me about the S bodies is how kids nowadays take them cut the body and fenders just to make a “drift missile” that ends up wrecked and in a junkyard or it ends up on marketplace for 10K with plastic fenders etc like smh.

You can still get RX7s for somewhere in the 20ks, prices jumped but not to where it’s impossible EDIT - just checked seems they jumped A LOT over the last 2 years. Good luck

I always wanted a R32 skyline since I played Gran Turismo 1 when I was a little kid in the late 90's. So I bought a bone stock R32 GTS-T for 7500 USD in the UK in 2019 and it lived up to my expectations. Spent so much money restoring/repairing it that people around me think i'm stupid, but that car means a lot to me. 😅

I myself love the E46 M3 and the Mk 4 Supra, but if I was ever to get my hands on either of the two them and had the money for it, I'd really rather just keep it stock or maybe just have it tuned to just 400--420 horsepower while keeping the body clean and untouched. Realistically speaking it's not like you're ever gonna get to fully use all that power unless you're some race car driver or a professional drifter 😂✌️

I absolutely agree that the clout has damaged the reputation and ability to obtain these cars. It does make me sad because as much as I would want a Skyline or Silvia I just want a car I can be proud of taking care of and working on to be in my vision. On top of that what's also unfortunate is that depending on the car the parts can be so expensive so while some may have spent so much to get the car initially they'll have to spend a good chunk more for parts. Good video though and happy you touched up on this topic.🤟

less and less places do test drives. Especially Importers, where they need a deposit or some kind of commitment _since they are shipping it overseas after all_ IMO just don't get "married" to an idea of a car, as it'll never live up to expectations. If I can't test drive a car, I'll never bother looking at it, but obv not everyone has that standard. However, I do believe ppl who have "try before you buy" standard, are less susceptible to clout culture scam buys.

Another JDM car that I think has been ruined by clout culture is 350Z (/G35). You see these cars on street takeovers, and honestly it kinda gave the G35/350Z a bad rep, in my opinion G35/350Z is pretty good cars, but their reputation has been ruined by street takeovers, it also effect other cars too like Dodge Challenger and Charger because you see these cars on street takeovers too

I'll admit that Im a GTR fan boy but i didnt become one by watching paul walker drift away in f&f, my obsession cam from watching old racing videos. And this is exactly why only the C10 and the R32 are the ones that i actually like. And despite not owning a single one, it emotionally hurts too much when i see one getting trashed or be converted to a 1000hp build

I feel like the mk 3 supra are still affordable in some places because it isn’t as recognisable, I had a friend bought one for $400 because the owner mistook it for an old celica. So you can still enjoy mk3 supras (for the time being)

I always loved skylines mostly for their design. For me it is the perfect balance between boxy cars of the 80's and curvy blobs of the 00's. Simillar thing for Silvias, i think they're just beautiful. And bn sports / origin labo style body kits just look amazing on them because unlike modern cars, the corners on the front don't look like they've been cut off for a more "agressive" look. Now the closest thing to a good looking, RWD coupe with a straight 6 that doesn't cost an arm and a leg is an e46 (And even their prices are going up FAST).

This is why I want to get a mid 60s Vista Cruiser for my wagon fix. They're old as dirt so theoretically you could find a clunker with a workable body and good frame for a few grand, it's an Oldsmobile so it's automatically uncool to the clout chasers, and I already have an F85 with the 330 ci V8 so I already know what the fuck I'm doing when fixing it. That is, if I don't find one with a blown up high compression 330, salvage the pistons to put in the F85 (it has the low compression pistons) and drop a stripped down carbureted or Holley EFI 5.3 in it alongside a 4L80E or Turbo 400, whichever would be easier. Probably the THM400, bell housing adapters are probably easier than getting a factory TCM to work with a standalone ECM.

@lsswappedcessna A lot of good options there. Not sure about salvaging pistons. I ended up buying a set for my build. I needed a forged set for a 312hp 1.8L 4cyl running on 93 octane. The engine is good for more power, but the driveline won't handle it. This is my daily, so I've met my power goal. A Holly EFI sounds nice. A lot of tuning potential there. 330ci is a respecable V8. Especially with forced induction. Best of luck. Cbeers

You might not like this but hear me out: Ford Falcon/Mercury Comet/Mustang/Cougar, with the straight six. There are performance parts for the inline sixes, and they’re bulletproof reliable, but the people building them are a minority because most people just swap a V8 in regardless. Falcons and Comets are especially cheap but since they share a platform with the Mustang, you can get modern suspension upgrades to make them handle well and parts support is excellent. Also any old Chevy with the 250 straight six, in Brazil there’s a huge tuner scene for those and they can reliably put out 1000 hp with a turbo and some bolt on parts, but in America those engines are worthless because every boomer wants an LS swap and won’t touch sixes. Also the Chevy Trailblazer inline six is an incredible tuning platform that even makes AWD conversions theoretically easy, but you have to swap that into something else since it only came in mediocre SUVs. The antidote to clout culture is to find something with little to no clout that’s similar enough or shares a platform and make it what you want it to be.

The whole point of initial D is a talented kid doing the best he can with the crappy econo car he has to deliver tofu. Seeing this makes me soo happy to be a Toyota Celica owner and fan. I was lucky in the fact that even as a kid I never really cared about the cars on this list with the exception of the NSX but is was more of a dream car and less of an object of worship. I was the person who fanned over the St165 Celica, EVO's, 300ZX's, galants,and other lesser known or respected cars. Tuner culture is low key dead.

My dad could have bought a blown head gasket nsx for about 5k about 2 years after they came out and he thought they were gonna be just another flop mid engine car (like a fiero lol) and didn’t think it was gonna be anything worth a damn, so he passed on it.

@ArbitraryOutcome in the UK they're around 35k-80k GBP, depending on mileage/year. Phase 2 Clios generally sell for 50k+ while Phase 1's (the original deathtraps) are around 35-50k. They only built around 1500 Phase 1's and 1300 Phase 2's if my memory serves me correctly.

If it wasn’t really for clout, these cars wouldn’t suffer from inflation. I love JDM cars, especially the Silvias, but not to the point I overly worship them. Of course, clout is everywhere no matter where you go. As long as something exists, theres always gonna be clout around it. It is also kinda disappointing that people think that these cars are already powerful at stock like people thinking Supra has 1k hp stock which I find it hilarious. It is disappointing that there are people who lack education about cars.

Nah the clout came after inflation and just contributed a little more. The clout is a byproduct of the inflation of JDM cars. JDM cars always had some level of clout behind them, was just amplified after the fact. The reason they've gone up so much is simply supply vs demand. When the US market opened up, prices went up. Nothing to do with clout, influencers etc.. Prime example, only 14,000 R33 GTRs were made and only 11,000 R34 GTRs. Imagine 0.01% of the US population who were both wealthy and loved cars wanted a R34 GTR. That's a solid 30,000 people, and that's ignoring the rest of the world. In contrast, a Lamborghini Gallardo - 40,000 units were made.

This car wasn't really ruined by clout culture but the price increase on first generation broncos is absolitely insane. I know most of it is because of limited production numbers but part of it must be related to the people who worship it.

When it came to Skylines it was specifically Gran Turisimo. I remember seeing in a games mag that it mentioned one of the staff on the game talking about how Nissan's profits blew up from people buying them. Most probably the reason why they let Kazunori Yamauchi design the GTR/R35 (at least in part). However you can place F&F as another influence, everyone knows Brian's silver and blue R34.

I’ve seen several previous R34 owners comments on some videos and all over the internet, all saying anyone who spends over 15 grand for one is a total idiot. Once you get past the nostalgic aspect of it, and you realize you spent more than 50k on a 25 year old car with average speed, you need to look at yourself in the mirror and slowly paint clown makeup on yourself. people sometimes overhype the r34 because of its predecessor, the r32 shredding every other car on the track.

I love my FC to death, but what you said is 100% correct Clout chasers get into rotary cars and either kid themselves into paying for it to keep it alive Or they swap it 🤢 I’m not gonna exclude myself from that, just because I did learn about the car from the internet, however, I’m repairing my FC to drive it as a fun rotary sports car, not a status symbol as a lot of people do. It’s a sad reality we live in nowadays.

Tell me more about this maintenance you're doing. I watched an engine teardown of an RX-8 engine and nearly had a heart attack. Working on that thing looks insane. Apex seal replacement at 100k mi intervals? I'd rather slit my wrist. A rotory looks like way too much trouble to me. I can see why people would LS swap them. The power gain is a bonus. How is your experience with the car?

@@christopherlowery855 I enjoy doing work on cars, so every 100k isn’t that bad personally I also premix so that extends the mileage a bit more The weight and distribution is the real selling point for me, it handles great and because it’s an NA rotary, I don’t have to worry about putting too much throttle down (usually) I’ve removed the engine 4 times now, so I feel like I’m close to pro in that area, it now takes about an hour to go from fully plugged in to in the back of a truck single handedly. Basically what it’s come down to is this: treat it like a normal engine, and it’ll hate you, treat it like a rotary, and it’ll love you back. I’ve owned it since the summer before my junior year of high school and I still love it.

People think that any generation of Skyline should be making over 1000hp are nuts! The R32 I have in mind is going to be bought for the experience of the drive. And I could care about making power on a motor that was perfect, making 600 at the most. It also doesn't help that most of these cars are a former shell of themselves (I.E. Full carbon bodies, widebody kits, stupid "Track Builds," etc.)

R32 is an amazing car. You will not be disappointed. Mine makes 400whp and it handles on rails! 400-600hp is definitely the sweet spot. Only thing that I do not like about it is the stock brakes are ass.

On another note, it baffles me how many people think that my beloved Skyline GT-Rs are fast (today) stock. I wished F&F never made Brian O’Conner drive an R34 GT-R.

On the RX-7, there is one thing that is more disgusting than how insanely overpriced they are nowdays, but the fact that first these people will spend 100k+ on one, and then ENGINE SWAP IT, that is literally buying the car just to get rid of the whole point of the car, it'd be like buying a hummer and then shrinking it, buying a lada and making it not garbage, buying a carlton and never driving it past 30 mph, and what's worse is that it's not even people who do it to annoy people, these apes do it because they have so little common decency that they think it's cool!

This is why I'm glad I don't really love any of these cars, at least not in the way I love my Evo V. Hell, the only reason that some people in the US even know what it is, is because of AdamLZ. Had my first one back in 2007 and imported one to the US this year. It's the best driving of all these cars you listed IMO and most people don't know what it is so I get ignored mostly and it's great. Hell, you didn't even include it on your "giant collective fever dream" collection. Best car ever.

I don't think it was all that quick on arrival, either. It was light, RWD, and got sideways easily, but it also had the aerodynamics of a brick (something I think had way more to do with overall performance than the 130 PS factory engine).

As someone who bought a Second-gen RX-7 off of a Grand Monther, I was blown away by how good it was kept she read the user manual (By that she kept the engine lubricated with oil) with no crazy mods just bone stock Second-gen RX-73S this was an older Japanese lady so that is more than likely the reason it was so well kept. The RX-7 FD's you see for 70 grand were never taken good care of They didn't read the user manual and like the point you bring up, In the video most of them are on their last leg before selling them.

I’m glad South Africa isn’t the only place with way overpriced older cars. Toyotas, BMWs, etc, even the golf mk1 is still selling generally around R 20 000 to R 30 000 and just to put that in perfective on average a working class person will bring home R 25 000 ish ( I’m estimating ) a month, that’s probably before taxes, rent , food etc , it’s just crazy times

As someone who wants JDM cars, this was extremely hard to take in. I do want to pull off the 1000+HP Supra thing. I really do. Not necessarily for the clout, but for something more personal. Hell, I rode shotgun in a Supra 3 years ago and up until that point, I've never been happier. But I don't know if I'll ever get one for myself.

funny, I almost got a "clean" 05 STi with an RA block because I was aggressively told that the GD STi is the best STi and i need to stop taking my 2020 WRX to track days and autocrosses. well, that STi was quick, sounded rad as hell and I could actually see out of the C pillars. However it had a 6 puck race clutch in it and needed $8k-$10k of work because the suspension was GONE, the paint was destroyed and the interior needed fixing, plus Subaru mods (IAG AOS and Killerb Oil Pan). It didn't even feel that special, it just felt like a 05 corolla with a buzzy gear lever. and it had the chassis regitity of a soggy noodle. Comparing it to my VA, it would be a waste of money. I loose cargospace, chassis rigidity and at the end I'd pay more in fixing the car than I got my VA. moral of the story: no matter what GD STi I would drive, i would be disappointed regardless of the HP figures.

Maybe it's because my first introduction to the GTR was the Black R32 from Initial D where it lost to a 4cylinder AE86 but I just loved how it looked and how hurt the character was when he scuffed it up then it made a couple of reappearances but kept losing so I saw it as an underdog of sorts

The skyline was actually really competitive in racing in its time. The R32 was probably the fastest Japanese car of the early 90s.

He even put MODERN in all caps. He was not talking about being fast in the 90's, he was talking about being fast in 2023. Also, those skylines were heavily modified, hence being a race car, so they really weren't ever that fast stock.

Glad I got my 3000gt just in time. Prices have really skyrocketed this year for no reason I can think of… She is old and I have spent five figures prices last year just in repairs. But she never lets me down on long roadtrips, only on grocery shoppings 😅. At some point everything should be fixed right?

No they didn't? I'm in the forum groups for 3/S and they basically have been the same for the past 3-4 years. They crept a little in 2020 during covid but they haven't gone up anymore since then. Also your raising the prices of parts with your comment when we already have a limited supply of them.

I bought an RX7 FD when I lived in Japan (2009) for 6k. It had about 60k miles on it, and no maintenance done on the apex seals. The engine blew right as I was getting out of the military. It was a great car though. Super sleek/sexy, and fun to drive. It came with a nice body kit, and quite a bit of modifications. I hope to one day buy one again, and if I win the lottery, maybe get a skyline R34 GTR. For now I'll enjoy driving my 2019 STi weekend warrior

I like the S15 just cause of the styling, the R33 also for the styling, a MK3 supra because so grew up playing GT1 (without memory card) where that was the best starter car and I like the lil Dorito easter eggs in the RX8 or the styling of the FC more than the FD

Always wanted an r34 gtr but as i got older and saw the prices of my dream cars as a kid skyrocket i realized it wont happen. Then i realized i just like the body shapes of these cars, so i went out and bought a HR34 sedan. Love 4 doors, love the general look of the r34 and this mf has a 2.0l thicc block that i can absuse the fuck out of. Perfect drift car and can put friends in it. dont care about going fast. 300hp is enough so slide this bad boy aroubd, granted it only comes with 215hp at most but im more than happy to do engine mods to get it where i want it to be.

Agree, I imported an ER34 4 door GTT and quite a few people had no idea a 4 door was available, let alone as a turbo. But, I love 4 doors and it was cheap as the clout is not there. @@WordsRely

If you do American cars, the first i can think of is the Cadillac CTS-V especially the wagon. Not that it started super cheap, but because its become way more desired than when it came out. Another take: not exactly clout culture, but 2nd Gen Dodge Rams, OBS Chevys, and 7.3 powerstroke fords have inflated to some degree because of youtube i believe. But this could also be because new trucks are expensive luxuries now. Doesnt help that 2009 cash for clunkers killed off 400k trucks

Spot on with the Cash for clunkers truck assessment. You used to be able to get a running 4x4, whether that be a truck, Jeep, Bronco or Blazer, for cheap. Nowadays, anything under 10k is going to be rusted to pieces and have 230k miles on it. Anything halfway decent is going to be 10k< because I kNoW wHaT I gOt! Offroading used to be an easy and fun way to get into cars but now it's too expensive.

The latter for sure. New car buyers moved into the used car market once new cars became impossble to finance. They think $20k for a car is cheap, while used car buyers think $2k for a car is cheap.

Any Hellcat seems like a no-brainer for the American car vid, too. Same with the Ford Crown Victoria, something Bladed brought up years ago I think.

the sad part is that other cars that have the same engines or were derived from them are also experiencing this. other RB, 2JZ, 4GS and other legendary engine powered cars are in this same exact situation. I remember looking at their prices back in 2015-17 and it was lower than what you can get them at now. some have kept their value from then some have doubled. this completely messed up my plans to buy one of these cars for myself. as soon as I save up money to buy it, it's always more expensive. at this point I can buy their EU competitor car for less money.

Man I remember in my late middle school - early high school times I was just really into the cars since they looked beautiful stock and in some cases even better with some tasteful mods. The whole culture was super cool surrounding them with the whole drifting, track and street racing scenes. When I started seeing some tiktoks with a grossly modified Supra where some goober(s) would go "WOAH LOOK AT THIS SUPRA MAN IS THAT A SUPRA?" it felt like a dark ominous cloud was just hovering over the damn car. Whatever though, I have a car that I love and I'm planning on doing a little bit to it over the course of next year and drive it on a circuit how it was meant to be driven.

Skyline owner here and I can confirm you are 100% spot on Bladed. But I didn't get mine because of the clout, I got it because it is genuinely my dream car. I could care less about speed and power. I just enjoy driving it.
