Great detailed video, fantastic work for us to get a general idea of what the factory claims are compared to what we might get from an older unit with low hours. I bet you did some more testing since it is clear you liked doing this. Thank you for taking the time and energy to share this here. We are Off-Grid and have the smaller MEP-831 for backing up or battery bank to our solar power but have been thinking of getting a larger unit. We are trying to balance out what we need for power and the fuel consumption is a major part if we had to run it 24/7. Since we did the Off Grid we have learned to conserve energy and have changed to propane oven, and are looking for a propane refrigerator and a freezer, we have solar hot water and a tank-less, so we just needed to watch this video so we can figure out which unit to get and I believe we could get by with the 802A. Thx !

Lots of good info. The only thing I care to add is the 5000watt continuous rating is at a 0.8PF (motors). The electric heaters you where using have a 1.0 power factor. So you can in fact run these units 24/7 with 6240 Watts if the load is 1.0PF. I'm fairly confident the load gauge will display properly 100% if you put a 5000watt 0.8PF Motor on it as a load instead. Great charts. Everyone should have an mep-802a. Their the best.

So assume diesel is $3, it will cost you $0.60 for 5kw/h, so $0.12 per kw/h is the same as my local area kw/h price. I think right? or I see this wrong here?

Thanks interesting video. Off the top of my head you were running the engine about 14% cooler than designed. It would be very interesting to run this same test with thd thermostat installed.

A much easier test would be to fill a 5 gallon container with exactly 3 gallons of fuel and run it for only 5 hours. Measure what’s left and do the math. More accurate, less fuel burned, less hours on the machine etc. nice test. Knowing that it only burns 0.4 GPH at 70% is valuable information.

Is your fuel gauge accurate? 1 inch level in the middle of the drum will hold more fuel than 1 inch right at the top ot bottom.

How are you venting it, it looks like it is sitting indoors? I'm contemplating installing one in my garage, but was thinking of placing it within 10 feet of my garage door and keep the door open while its operating. Is that safe to do?
