Africa and its diaspora has a plethora of martial systems that originate from many different cultures. North Africa has a unique history and a diversity of martial systems. In this video, originally aired at HAMAA's 2021 Gathering, Council Member Adam Myrie provides a brief summary of some of the martial arts from North Africa.

There is also a hand-to-hand art from the Canary Isles called Juego del Mano, it looks a little bit like Wing Chun with lots of closed fist punches and open hand parries.

Juego de Palo Canario it is not an African martial art, but a Spanish one. The Canary Islands are a Spanish colony, although in the past, they were part of Africa since the Guanches were inhabitants of these islands. But this martial art is modern and is based on different stick practices that mimic the sword attacks of the ancient Spanish. Therefore, it is a Spanish martial art, not an African one. I know because I'm Spanish.
