This week we look at how to best attach 3-D eyes and a sealant that isn't the ONLY way you can seal the head, but one that I have found to be a good combination of durability and speed (application and drying time). Seems like the best of both worlds for me, so I'm hoping it helps you too!

I haven't tried your described technique yet, but am impressed with your teaching approach, it is minus the two minutes of unneeded action shots/mode music that is present in so many fishing videos! Noticed the shown method of holding hands together during applications, so important in stabilizing the process, reducing shakiness.

Another good thing i notice when you put the clear polish over the eye it makes it pop even more makes it look very realistic so so far I see me and you are on the right track because that technique really works

I use this stuff sold at Sally Beauty Supply called For Rhinestones Only. I transfer it to a squeeze bottle with a needle tip. Dries in minutes and doesn't change the color of certain paints like Hard as Nails can. It's also way tougher. The heads can take a lot of abuse without the eyes falling off. Costs about $4 for a 1 ounce bottle. Give it a try!

I'm one of those guys that uses epoxy. It's a little thicker than water consistency two-part system. I mix it and dip the whole head, shake off excess and hang to dry. Your correct it's drying time is long but when I make lots of heads it's super fast to dip shake hang. Great video...

Tip= You can apply a dab of gel super glue onto a paper plate, then use a toothpick to dip point into glue and apply to eye socket. This method is much more precise. It only takes a tiny amount of glue to hold eye ( let cure ) Then apply your Hard as Nails clear…..You can apply a final coat of Clear water base Seal Coat ( CS brand) dab on with small kids art brush ( disposable). The CS Seal Coat for final coat will make your bait worm proof. Rob

I use the toaster oven to get my materials just hot enough to melt the paint. If i find the zone, it covers well without filling the hook eye when cured. A bit trickier with small jigs. Love your vids.

I will take the 3-D eyes since they have an adhesive on the back place them sticky side down on baking soda, place a tiny drop of super glue gel to the eye socket on my jigs and then place the eye with the baking soda on the gel. For a cover coat I use the Sally Hansen top coat. I can't get the eyes off of the jigs after that.

@@SDGCustomLurecraft The more of these I do the better I like it. The trick that I've found, is to spread a thin layer of baking soda on a paper plate, then I use a bodkin to take the eyes from the backing and place them sticky side down on the baking soda. Now that the sticky side is no longer tacky I find them easier to handle. I will then transfer them to a paper towel after tapping and blowing gently the excess baking soda off. Once I have them laid out on the paper towel I simply place them in the eye socket after placing a tiny drop of gel super glue in first. Since there's baking soda on the adhesive side of the eyes they no longer stick to everything they touch, only the glue once they're seated.

I just tried Sally Hanson "Hard as Nails" *strengthener* (not hardener 3:55) and it dissolved my yellow chartreuse powder paint! Also, it has a strong acetone odor compared to some other top coats I have used. I wonder if the S.H. "Hardener" is more benign. ADDENDUM I do not bake my jigs, nor do I want to - too much effort.
@SDGCustomLurecraft
@SDGCustomLurecraft 5 ай бұрын
Good question, I’m not sure. I have seen a little yellow come off on the applicator when covering chartreuse (odd, b/c it’s only been that color that causes a problem). Be curious to see if the hardener vs strengthener makes a difference.

Hey Dan, I Sally the whole head twice. I didn’t want there to be a “seam” by just hitting the eyes. I recently purchased some Loon Hard Head Clear that I have yet to try but hear good things about. If it works out, I think 1 coat of it will be sufficient.

Just found this video. 2 more tips that I have been using for years now. Take or make up a small box , I use a hard pack that cigarettes come in , tape it up a little. cut a small hole in it that your Sally Hansen bottle will just barely fit in. that will make it eaiser to use and you won't knock it over. Next,, Get a small jug of Vaseline and a small paint brush then brush a small amount of the Vaseline on the threads of both your nail polish and your super glue. That will help keep any small drips from making the bottles hard to open once the drips dry around the threads of the bottles.

Is Gorilla better than Loc-Tight? I tried the LT gel and it turns my eyes white on the edges.
@SDGCustomLurecraft
@SDGCustomLurecraft Жыл бұрын
Great question! No, it’s no different really. The white you are seeing can be from two sources: Using a thin “CA” glue vs a super glue gel… definitely go with the gel. It may also be oxidation. As the glue cures it gives off a vapor that will settle back down on your lure. As it settles the vapor turns white. Simple fix here is to put the heads (now with glued on eyes) in front of a fan until the glue is fully cured. The vapors will blow away, reducing the white. Try those tricks, I hope they help!
