Without Liszt, we wouldn't have the solo recital as we know it today.
►The new album "On My New Piano:
DG.lnk.to/my_new_piano
Barenboim was inspired to create a new piano after playing Franz Liszt’s restored grand piano during a trip to Siena in September 2011. Struck by the vital differences in sound of an instrument constructed with straight, parallel strings rather than the diagonal crossed ones of a contemporary instrument, he set out to create a brand new instrument that combines the best of the old and the new and offers a real alternative for pianists and music-lovers in the 21st century.

Just a mention to those truly interested in Liszt, go no further than Prof. Alan Walkers three Books on Liszt, in which he spent over twenty years in pure research and documentation from Liszt early barnstorming Virtuoso years, in which over seven years traveled throughout all Europe and Russia giving concerts from all the past masters, and his compositions to those who would otherwise never have opportunity to see a concert, symphony or opera. It is an amazing story of the music of the nineteenth century, the composers, artists, aristocracy. I know you will enjoy it!

Incredible the way Me Barenboim talk about the music and those little things behind the composition and the author. I suggest that the team behind this channel add subtitles for the non English speakers. I'm Spanish for example but it would be easier for us to have them. Thank you very much for your video, Mr. Barenboim. I have a question for you, that is, if you are open for any requests. Are you familiar with the case of the Hungarian composer/pianist Ervin Nyiregyházi, a rare talent, even among prodigies, who never found his place in the uncompromising musical business? Do artists have to make compromises? Is it merely a matter of taste, or another sign foreboding the decline of classical music? What can we, the normal listeners, do for such individual talents and for art as a whole?

You're trying to cram so much information into such a short period. We know you're a very busy man, but if you can find the time - please, please give us more time on each individual piece. These are masterpieces that cannot be summed up in 5 minutes.

Thank you very much for these videos. It would be very interesting to hear you about Wagner, the orchestration of the overtures of Tristan, Lohengrin, Rheingold. And also on the emotional force of Isolde's Liebestod (joint conversations with Waltraud Meier would also be very interesting ). Also on Shubert's Impromptus or sonatas. As an auditor I'm always frustrated by the form of the recital and the absence of any verbal communication from the soloits/conductors to the concert audience. Concerts would be even more attractive if the artists could share their views at the end of the performance, on the piece, on the composer, their feeling on the way they performed it.... The younger generations would also appreciate it. Julien
