Really surprised Ronin is not on this list. For my money, that’s his best, most visionary work.

I completely agree. I would change the 300 on this list and rightfully place ronin.

I need to read that, I just bought dksa because I had to know just how bad it was... Could've spent the same amount on ronin instead

Yeah I read ronin and wasn't happy with the dark images and asian actors. Good story though.

Year One is probably my favorite, but Daredevil and TDKR are brilliant, too.

I’ve been reading his Daredevil run this week and then this comes out. Serendipity is real.

Just picked up the two Daredevil by Miller omnibuses recently and am reading those stories for the first time. Great stuff, the writing and art really hold up even 40 years later! That guy really paved the way for a lot of modern comics.

Hey Mike! Wow! Great list! I luv all of those(minus "TDKS," lol)! If I had to pick my favorite story he wrote... it would be either "Daredevil: Born Again" or "Daredevil: The Man Without Fear." If I'm going by something he wrote AND drew... I'd have to say it's hard to argue w/"TDKR" or "Sin City!" His use of negative space in "Sin City" is just phenomenal! He's always been an artist who really pushed the boundaries of comics, in various ways- both in writing & art. His panel layouts have almost always been highly unique. His storytelling, or directing- as u perfectly put it, is some of the best in the business! The only one u showed that I've never read is the "Martha Washington" one. I've heard a bit about it, hear & there; but I've never heard or read a review on it that made it seem as compelling as u did here! And I thought I'd seen some art panels from it in the past, but I don't see how... because the art u showed from it here looks excellent! Which shouldn't surprise me, given the artist, lol. Still, it looks & sounds quite interesting! Thanx for another awesome video, man! I hope u guys & ur families stay safe & healthy!😊👍🏻👍🏻❤

Completely agree with your assessment of Martha Washington. Great story. The only one on the list I disagree with is 300. Sloppy pencilling, hackneyed story. A rare example of a movie outshining the source material. I'd replace it with Ronin. *Everybody* sleeps on Ronin. I would be amazed if Ronin doesn't get turned into a movie.

@@chrismacdonald2580 Highly recommend! It preceded DKR and Watchmen. Had as big an impact (on myself and my circle of friends) as either of those when it came out. I'm not one to overly wallow in the past - there are brilliant comics being published right now - but the 80s are when comics grew up. ☮️

I agree with everything you said in this video. Thanks for letting me know about about Martha Washington. I would put Batman: Year One as my second pick and Daredevil" Born Again as my third pick (Batman the Dark Knight Returns is my all time fav).

Miller's greatest work is not a Batman comicbook, it's Daredevil: Born Again. He really redefined the heroes journey and even managed to write a very good Captain America story within it.

I have that Big Damn Sin City and it is awesome...but my favorite Frank Miller work wasn't on the list, Batman: Year One pairs amazing storytelling & art to tell a complete story in just 4 regular issues

Miller is a weird one, he was literally one of the best ever for a time and then fell all of the way off of a cliff. Later in his career he's plainly bad. Strikes Again included.

You said you thought all of Miller's Batman work is worth the time, with the exception of DK2. Where do you land on his truncated run on All-Star?

To me, Year One is the best Batman graphic novel with Frank Miller’s credited to it. His writing plus Mazzucchelli’s artwork paint Batman in a better light compared to Dark Knight Returns imo. Dark Knight Returns while a triumph in a literary novel sense because the writing is immaculate, his penciling I feel is a bit dated and clunky. Yes, it lends to the gritty feel but sometimes it seems as though the weight of what is show in the panel leaves more to be desired. For example, I felt the impact of Batman defeating the Mutant Gang Leader in the mud hole after watching the film, whereas that scene in the graphic novel its indiscernible at times when the panels look like globs of mud with limbs sticking out.

Don’t forget that All Star Batman is hot garbage except for Jim Lee’s art. I hate Strikes Again because they made Dick Grayson into a mad man killer that did this because of Batman’s training. I am upset with this due to Grayson being my favorite Robin besides Carrie Kelly.

In my opinion it was just a very weak follow up to The Master Race, which I actually did enjoy , and the art was unique but I didn’t really like the way Carrie Kelley was drawn at all.

@Tyler Davis yeah that suit was awesome. Also after really enjoying Master Race I actually bought the Golden Child on release day and was excited to read it and was just really disappointed. Overall still love Frank Miller’s work though.

I actually like his ass-insane The Dark Knight Strikes Again! This muddled unhinged craporama took some goddamn balls to make and to publish. Even as it was probably lazy shit produced in a hurry. Frank Miller could have stayed on as a respectable elderly statesman of american comicbooks, but NO! he went for strange old pariah instead. First producing weird anti-Islam neocon-ish books then going full on anti-Trump in The Golden Child. BANG! Was he secretly paid extra to make these strange political zig-zags? We will perhaps never know. We know only that Miller will bite the bullet even when it shatters his jaw and rips his head halfway off his shoulders. BOOM!
