I mean, I guess it makes sense that cast members don't get to skip lines and stuff. Disney must hire thousanddsssss of people from ppl who work at the parks to actual corporate workers, so if they could all skip people would probs wreak havoc.

I heard most of the makeup Disney character performers use is Ben Nye, which is a little on the expensive side. Btw this also the makeup Kim Kardashian's makeup artist uses on her.

I think that's a really good idea and I know a ton of people would be interested in it! My whole job while I was with Disney was to create magic for people, and morally I would have a hard time creating content that would do the opposite of that. I try to make videos based off of my experience or my opinion and I don't really talk about any company "secrets". While I do completely understand why so many people would be interested in a makeup tutorial, I won't be making any videos regarding my training out of respect for the company and to uphold character integrity. :)

You are so sweet Haley, thank you! I really appreciate you upholding character integrity too! I think it's hard because obviously it would be easier for me to just talk candidly, and I know a lot of people get annoyed because they know the "truth". But I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping Disney magical and there's no need to bring in reality! I remember I was pretty old (like maybe late elementary school) when I realized the "truth" about Disney characters. And it made me really sad to think that something that brought me so much joy wasn't "real". But as an adult and after working for Disney I realized that just because the world says something isn't "real" doesn't mean people can't believe in it!

when you auditioned for disney, did you wear false lashes?
@kenziemacbrown
@kenziemacbrown 7 жыл бұрын
I did during one of my auditions, I didn't in the audition that I was hired from. I feel like you could get away with wearing them if they were really simple, definitely nothing over the top. The majority of characters don't have false lashes so I feel like it would be better if you didn't wear them while auditioning since you most likely wouldn't wear them as a performer.

This is a super cool video idea and I love the myth busting you did here! It's also super inspiring to hear that there were both "older" performers and younger performers for certain characters! I sometimes get a little worried that I won't be able to get out and audition while I'm still in the younger age bracket, but it gives me hope that I could potentially wait a bit longer til I'm financially in a better place to really go for it then. I like the idea of this video. However, I do have a couple responses. You are correct (obviously) that we only get a limited number of free passes, and they are limited to three guests each visit. However, CompanyD does offer deeply discounted park tickets. The discount rate depends on the time of year, but when I was there discounts ranged from 40% during the busy seasons to around 75% during off-season. Granted, these aren't free passes, but you can still bring friends and family in for a lot less than retail. Also, the Magic Kingdom Utilidor isn't underground. However, there is a tunnel underneath Epcot's FutureWorld that is, in fact, underground. Epcot was built on ground level, but the backstage area around FutureWorld was too small. This was a problem during conception and planning, so Imagineers decided to dig underneath the park, from backstage FW West through to the foundations of Spaceship Earth. This allowed for Cast Member entrances in the middle of the park, as well as more storage space and break areas for CMs. Fun fact: I worked at Electric Umbrella. We had the largest kitchen in Walt Disney World Quick-Service Dining. Our main kitchen, on park level, was our service kitchen. All the prep work and storage (dry storage and walk-in fridges and freezers) were downstairs and connected to the tunnel. The manager's office, drink dispensers (bag-in-boxes) and garbage receptacle were also downstairs, connected to the tunnel.

Can you do a video on what products you used while working at disney(not like a tutorial of the looks, but just what products you used) or does that break character integrity? Also does is break character integrity if you list out what you had to do at training?
@kenziemacbrown
@kenziemacbrown 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! I feel it would break character integrity. For me, the magic is in how much Disney can bring these characters to life and explaining how they train us to do it would go against that. As a general rule, I try to make videos based on either my opinion or things I find to be "general" information (or information I would be able to find out or realize if I wasn't a performer but still a cast member). For example, when I was a character attendant I knew nothing about performers' trainings. Even as a performer, I knew nothing about what went into other characters' trainings. So even as a cast member, that wasn't common knowledge, and that's how I'm judging what to make my videos on. I hope that makes sense! I think I'm going to make a video on this because I do get asked these questions a lot!

I'm happy to see the "old at 27" myth debunked on KZfaq. The "size" issue seems to be different. There is an occasional friend of Belle or Cinderella who is outside the normal range, but otherwise, there's a strict size range for face characters. Disneyland was actually less strict about friends of Alice more than five years ago, but now they are all quite petite.

Could you maybe please do a video on makeup brands? Cosplayers would benefit so much from knowing which brands are better for all-day wear. I imagine face-characters get very hot and sweaty throughout the day and that the durability of the makeup would be important, and as a cosplayer it'd epic to have any info you can share! Just an in-your-experience video❤
@kenziemacbrown

@Jessiswatchingyou
@Jessiswatchingyou 7 жыл бұрын
Yes that would be so great! Like there are beauty gurus out there who swear by certain all-day products which I mean it's fine if it works for them, but cosplayers and face-characters are often in warm conditions when dressed up, including the costume [oh god costumes get so hot], so getting makeup durability advice from someone who's actually experienced that kind of situation would be amazing!

Kida. I volunteer for a con in my city. The con is called Pensacon. The con is always in Feb. This year was Feb 17-19. Not sure if you heard of the game Silent Hill. A lady was dressed up as Pyramid Head. I was at the Vip Front Entrance. When in the afternoon. I saw the lady with the Pyramid Head off. Looks like she was about to pass out from getting so hot in that costume. There were some EMTs around her. So I agree that it does get hot in those costumes. Next year since the actress that played the original Buffy in the movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I will probably go as a werewolf on Sunday next year.

3:05 I have a serious question. What if you ARE like a stick? I've been gaining a bit more weight, but I'm still rather skinny and short too, so I'd be worried that the costume sizes would still be a bit too big on me due to how small I am (I'm Hobbit sized, taking after my mother. It doesn't help that I'm also really skinny) and even if a size 0 fit me, it'd be way too long. How small ARE the 0s? Because I know that 0 can range a lot from my experience,and extra small can be a bit of a loose term. Thanks in advance if anyone happens to answer this, but as someone who's looking into a future at Disney for at least a little bit, I want to know stuff like this so I don't fall flat on my face when I'm too small to do anything significant at the resort.

+Hannah G Some people have REALLY bad reactions to contacts, so it could be something to do with that? Or maybe it's just such a small detail that, unless they are known for their eye colour, it isn't worth it?
@kenziemacbrown
@kenziemacbrown 7 жыл бұрын
Generally speaking, when you are performing you have to have the same eye color as your character. If you don't, the company provides colored contacts. This goes for all characters at Disney WORLD. I've heard of (and seen pictures of) the performers in different parks (Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, Tokyo) not following this. It's ultimately up to the park. I feel like Disney World is the most "to the books" when it comes to character integrity, and while your eye color has to match your character's (while performing), it's not necessarily that way at the other parks.
@disvids8754
@disvids8754 7 жыл бұрын
Well, it depends on what you mean by "character integrity". I've occasionally seen a princess at Disneyland with an unexpected eye color. I don't know why, but perhaps they just can't wear contact lenses that day for some reason. It's easy to find dozens of WDW princess friends on Instagram, - a case in which Disneyland is obviously far stricter. Also - and I'll admit this can be subjective - there are some WDW friends who bear little resemblance to characters they portray, where Disneyland friends seem to be chosen more carefully to be lookalikes. For example, a friend of Anna and Jasmine?! There's one at WDW now, but at Disneyland, not only is that unknown, but Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Mulan are distinct roles, where again, I' ve seen them "shared" at WDW.

Hi Kenzie! Thank you for your videos! I want to audition for a performer, but I am in college. Should I audition as a part of the college program or just for a normal, every day job at Disney? How would the college program differ from just a normal job in that way?

Did you work at Disney Worldt? I'm friends with Mickey at Disneyland Paris and we can cut the line for rides (if the Cast Member running it is friendly) and for characters we're allowed to go skip the queue any time unless its super, super busy. We also have older performers, who've been here since the park opened, but most of them only do ACC because we do both performer and character attendant here

Haha honestly I over-whitened them when I was in middle school! They're actually slightly translucent at the bottom because they started to lose their pigment. I can't whiten them anymore without them hurting, but they look whiter when I'm tanner (like in this video) and I do use toothpaste with whitening in it!

I love your videos💕 About the contacts what if I have big blue eyes but they look green in certain lighting. Would it be okay if I wore darker but brighter blue for the audition? Since I have big blue but green looking eyes they might see me as being "friends" with rapunzel rather then being "friends" with Aurora. I know I can't pick what character I would be "friends" with but I just have a similar face structure to Aurora rather then Rapunzel. So would it be okay to wear color contacts or no!? Sorry this is so long.

Awww thank you so much Hannah!! I love making videos about my experience and it brings me joy knowing that other people enjoy them too! Ariel's been my favorite since I was 2, so I'll have to say definitely her! But when I was an attendant I loved working with Naveen and Tiana or Tinkerbell! I felt like their personalities as characters made my shifts really fun and entertaining! Working as an attendant with some of the classic princesses was fun, but they're very regal and calm whereas Tinkerbell or Tiana were very spunky. Seeing their interactions with guests (to me) was always a lot more entertaining! I'm not in the college program anymore, I actually moved back to Washington State and have been living here for over a year! But I would definitely love to go back and visit some friends at Disney World soon!

Could you please do a video on Disney and if they will help you with living arrangements if you are working as full-time as face character, your pay etc. my daughter is wanting to apply in 2 years when when is done with college , we live in Alabama. how soon if choose could she expect having to move etc . Thanks so so much, we are your channel🤗

Thank you so much!! Honestly, they don't help you with housing when you're full-time which is a bummer. They do it if you're in the college program (they provide housing and transportation) but it does get taken out of your paycheck. If your daughter is still living in Alabama when she auditions (and not living in Florida) they will pay for relocation fees (which I think only covers shipping the car). BUT she would have to sign a one-year contract and if she broke it she would have to pay for the relocation fees. But that is all they do in terms of helping with living arrangements and relocation.

I have a question, I'm only 5'1 and I'm done growing, I know you have to be a certain height to be certain characters so which ones could I be? Random, but do you know if having eyelash extensions would be a turn off when auditioning? Though I've seen some casting calls say to not wear make up, the one I'm trying out for is character look-alikes for Tokyo, which doesn't say anything about what to wear or whether makeup is permitted or not. I saw in a previous video of yours that those are the auditions girls typically be more fancy for. Sorry if this question is silly, having lashes on make me feel pretty and feminine but I understand if they want to see our faces more fresh. Thank you so much for all your videos, they've been a HUGE help! Super informative and motivating! :)
@kenziemacbrown
@kenziemacbrown 7 жыл бұрын
I think that is a fantastic question!! I think eyelash extensions would be different than false lashes you can put on beforehand and take off. Extensions look a lot more natural (most of the time) and I think you could get away with wearing those! I think it might be more of a turn off if people wore really obvious, over the top false lashes (like really thick and long ones). I even wore false lashes at one of the auditions I went to but they were super light and natural! Again I think minimal makeup is ok, just not like a full face of makeup you would wear to prom or anything like that!

Is being able to sing like your character important in the hiring process at all? Did guests ever want you to sing your character's songs or anything like that?
@kenziemacbrown
@kenziemacbrown 7 жыл бұрын
That's a good question! It's not a factor whatsoever, and we're not allowed to sing. I think there's two reasons behind this. 1. The performers who perform in the shows where they sing or what they're saying is scripted are called "equity performers". They get paid at a different level and they're separate from the "meet and greet" performers. They can't do meet and greets, and meet and greet performers can't be equity. So meet and greet performers can't sing otherwise they would be "equity". 2. It would go against character integrity if one time you meet a character they can sing phenomenally and the next time they sound awful. It's similar to why Disney has height restrictions for face characters because they don't want there to be a huge difference when you are meeting the characters. If a guest asked, say Ariel, to sing she might say something around the lines of "Sebastian's having me save my voice for the next concert".
