The new Premier League season is here! What felt like an endless wait has finally ended, and we finally get to see our favourite English teams compete for the most coveted prize yet again.
But this time around, it is not business as usual. This Premier League season will be a little different from the previous ones because there have been some rule changes. Today, we check out some of those changes. Here are 5 new Premier League rules that will be implemented for the first time this season.

@@gummibear2793 UCL is 5 subs in normal time 6th sub in extra time premier league I believe there is 7 on the bench and 5 can come on the extra 2 are only allowed to come on if there is injurys if the team ran out of subs.

What I wanted to see happening regarding the new rules of the game is for the Ref to punish a player who picks up the ball after the Ref has blown his/her whistle for a faul, where the same player picks up the ball, runs away with it, just to throw it back to the same spot a few seconds later after his/her team mates have readied themselves well for the free kick so given. The player who picked up the ball should receive a yellow card as he/she has prevented the opposing team from taking a quick free kick, thus preventing the flow of the game while taking away the entertainment in the process.

Such a law already exists. A referee can caution that player for Delaying the Restart of Play. He CAN do it. He just chooses NOT to do it most of the time.

You forgot to mention that the five subs have to be done in three moments. Halftime stoppage not included. This also reduces stoppage time. In the near future we will also see the compulsory sub in case of concussion. This can be done as a sixth sub. This is already in rugby a couple of years.

@@asandangobese7664 no, you can sub 5 people but have to do it in 3 moments. So for instance first one 2, second one also 2 and last one 1. Three people in one sub is also allowed. Half time stoppage is not included, so you still have three moments if you sub someone during halftime. For instance: 1, 2, halftime 1 and 1

Left out an important detail about the Cantona incident. The man Cantona kicked was later identified being linked to overtly fascist and white supremacist groups, and he had directed a stream of racist language at Cantona just before the flying kick. Excluding this context seems very misleading.

God, I remember when ONE sub was brought in and was controversial. Then 2, then 3...seems to favour clubs with the deepest pockets and strength in depth. So much for levelling up and closing the gap on the top 6-8...

I have lots of ideas to improve the game including: A formula 1 race start light style system to ensure penalties are struck within a strict time period, to give the goalkeeper a more reasonable chance of saving. This will mean an end to "foxing" run ups. I would suggest 0.5 second window. If the penalty taker fails to strike the ball within this time window, it will deemed a miss regardless of what happens after. An evening up of red card disadvantage. The earlier a red card occurs in a game, the greater the disadvantage. So a red card in the first 30 minutes is worth more than a goal on average statistically and a red card in the last minute, is unlikely affect the result. This seems unfair and I don't think there is a remedy, but the rules can do something to make it less unfair. I suggest teams who have suffered a first half red card, could be allowed to substitute the red carded player 45 minutes after the red card to increase their numbers. For example, red cards awarded at 10 minutes, will allow a substitution on 55 minutes, though play will not be stopped to allow it. Normal substitution rules apply except players substituted after the card, will be valid substitutes, but count as 2 substitutions and the player sent off won't be allowed to be substituted back.

Dear Psy Pro: Penalties are few and far between (rare), anyway, for the FA to worry about. ---------------------------- The red card behind-the-scenes situations such as suspensions, sit-downs, and fines will accrue and be handled by the FA/FIFA, adding their weight according to the severity of situations -- or sneaky timings.

I think it's less controversial than the previous rule. Essentially players weren't incentivized to make plays for the ball with the previous rule because they could play someone onside (that could have been 30 yards offside) by just getting a slight touch (as you can see in the Mbappe goal). This just gives players the security to make a play on a ball that is going through without having to worry about if their challenge plays an offside player onside

I always found that offside rule to be so terrible. You were literally not incentivized to make a play for the ball when you weren't sure if the player is offside because you might just play an offside player onside by just touching the ball.

My guess is the green card is a metaphoric reference to the new method of restarting the game after a player leaves the pitch to assault an "outside agent"- an indirect freekick to the opposing team.

The idea should be to 'simplify' offside rather than add another added-clause to interpret during play. As if the Ref hasn't got enough to comprehend without deciding what the motive of a defender is, and VAR makes enough errors without giving them more reason to make more.

5 subs is good but I would prefer it to be 3 tactical subs and 2 injury subs so if you have an injured player you can sub him without using a tactical sub. But the injury has to be inflicted by an opponent during or after a challenge so you can’t just fake a pulled hamstring. But the offside rule is great I hated how as a defender if you touched the ball or got a deflection the player became onside in a better position.

I thought of that as well, but you'd never be able to judge that objectively. Maybe 3 subs, 1 head injury sub, 1 goalkeeper sub. The goalkeeper sub would make it interesting and at least allow more opportunity for goalkeepers to play rather than having to commit a sub tactically or play an entire game with 1 goalkeeper.

The 5 subs rule isn't sensible, it's an unneccessary change that benefits big teams. Instead of making lots of pointless new rules they should sort out the problems with VAR.

I don't like the five subs: This creates mental lax and fitness issues during preparation, with some who think they may not play for all of the ninety minutes. --------------- This may also attract intimidating hulks with no stamina, a la U.S. gridiron, to create negative situations on the pitch. I'm not a fan of the abundance of balls around the pitch; however, an extra one or two would be acceptable. Mistakes can be made by the ball boy or other players who anticipate. At 3:16: The free kick should go in favor of Cantona's team, who had to take the fan's abuse, drawing out his frustration and subsequent retaliation.

I'm still waiting for actual time rule: the very last minutes are full of waste of time, fake injuries, mutiple (or zero) balls on the pitch and many other unsportsmanlike behaviours. I'd like to abolish some penalty kick rule too: if a player commits handball touching the ball from a cross or if there's a foul with no real opportunity to score, well, I think that a PK is an excessive punishment. A free kick (in area) should be fair enough and would be funny to watch too. I would give a penalty just when there's a clear goalscoring opportunity (1vs1, last defender, handball after a shot in the target, etc.). There are too many penalties and with VAR every little handball or contact is a penalty so a lot of players are just looking for that.

So the new offside rule was in place for the Champions League Final but it is only just being introduced into the Premier League? It’s bizarre that this was never mentioned in the BT Sport coverage. We just had a former referee trying to justify the decision based on the old rule and Rio Ferdinand arguing that it should have stood based on his own imagined offside rule.

basically the rule before was if an opponent deliberately played the ball (like an attempted slide tackle) and plays it to an offside attacker, the offside is negated. theyve basically fixed the rule so an opponent must have control of the ball for offside to be negated.

The offside rule is still crap. Go with Wenger advise and make it offside if there is daylight between attacker and defender. If not, there is no offside.

@@dalwinlewis424 i disagree. When an offside call is reviewed by VAR and the replay shows daylight between the attacker and defender then the attacker is offside. However, if the replay shows the attacker in line with defender but his shoulders or knee sticking out in front of defender, that should not be offsides. These types of offsides calls is killing the game. It's nonsense. If the strikers nose is in front on the defender, they call offside. That is nonsense. Wenger is right. There has to be a clear space between the attacker and defender for it to be offsides. This would be good for the game.

@@Stewy-xw9fz here is one that would help they should check the distance from when the attacker was in an offside position to when the attacker scores so if per se vinicius is 5 m offside if at the time of the goal he is 10 m away from the last man the goal should stand.Jk but I ironically enough i can see this being implemented

That last one is i would say unfair Would rather it make sense instead the ref rewards that player for doin so to an outside agent a Black Card equating to an automatic 10 game suspecion Depending on the severity reward them a card that half of it is red n the other helf is black equating to not only an automatic 10 game suspencion but also a whole month suspension from training

10 subs is a joke. That's almost a whole new team coming onto the pitch. Not to mention the delay (pi$$ take) this will be used to waste time. Slowing the game down WILL turn people off.
