Wow, nice to see this has gotten so much positive attention. I was on the marketing team for Fresh Water Systems for a couple of years and I handled all their photography and videography. I shot and edited this video, as well as all the other videos on this channel going back for the past 2 years or so. We had a good time making this, and I miss working with these guys. Thanks for all the kind words, even though I cringe now at some of the terrible lighting and rough transitions. I've come a long way in my editing skills since then.

But you should have stated the pH and TDS of your unfiltered water to show the filtration effect of each. I know that the best water for brewing coffee is usually quoted as pH 6 - 8 and TDS 75 - 250, so if you like coffee, best not take out too many minerals.

I bought the ZeroWater because it's the only product so confident in its ability it includes a TDS meter and sure enough it takes my tap water from 045 down to 000 just as expected. Just seeing the difference in filter size between the products reviewed shows that you are getting more filter for your money with the ZeroWater. And the results prove it.

if your tap is 045- you don't need a filter. With that said- I LOVE ZeroWater. You do have to plan ahead a bit. I usually filter ahead about 10 gallons of water for cooking and coffee. ZeroWater is great but filters very slow. It takes me about 20 minutes to filter a gallon. Pur & Brita should be sued - total ripoff.

The length of the filter depends on how much water is used daily. A filter used by one person should last longer than a filter used by multiple people on a daily basis. Plus it also depends on the quality of your water as to how much gunk it has to filter.

The speed and ease of assembly is slightly important but, since you'll only be doing it every so often, it is not a primary consideration. The 1-cup filtration duration test was useful in that we know which filters are going to be the most laggardly, a factor that some people hate. The grip-pour-features test was flawed in that the filters weren't filled to capacity to truly test whether the grips were comfortable. The testing itself was inadequate. TDS doesn't tell you if the water is good or bad, and conductivity is probably not going to discover the amount of non-conductive particles. The question of the health benefits of alkaline water remains up in the air. You could also have run simple tests like for chlorine/chloramine that only require drops. It would've been nice if you'd shown a chart of the results. The lady with the Pur invalidated her test by tasting the soda first, which would've set her sweet taste buds to a higher standard, thus making the filtered soda taste less sweet. Smell and taste are highly subjective from person to person, so each member should've checked all five glasses of water. If anyone was sick, or a woman was on her period, that would negatively impact his/her gustatory and olfactory senses. Also, the fact that the same soda wasn't used for each filter somewhat negates the value of the test. Nevertheless, the soda test was useful in that it gave a visual demonstration of some of the capabilities of the filter. I used to sell NSA filters and those could completely filter soda water - not that this is recommended, though, as it'll gum up the filter quickly and provide a food source for germs. Finally, some of your awards were based on materials from the respective companies, at least in part. Unless this was not marketing material and was from a respected lab, the material is not necessarily relevant. Also, if the tests used by one company weren't as comprehensive as another, or the list of removed compounds/elements was not complete (i.e. they focused on things people think about most, like lead and chlorine), then the comparison was invalid. Finally, you claimed that the Brita removes the most lead but, during a test in another KZfaq (TV News) channel, they discovered that Brita, Pur and another brand removed 90%, while Zerowater removed 98%. (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8uImZB9y96dn58.html) Overall, your testing was useful, but for a company like yours I expected a better, more robust and scientific approach. I hope you'll redo the test using science, and include other brands.

I have to ask if they all had the same instructions for assembly, iow no pre prep before use? I have a pitcher I bought from Target, UP and UP (uses a Brita filter), and one of the things it tells me to do is immerse the new filter shaking out air bubbles, then have it go through two filter cycles before drinking it. Just because the pitchers look assembled doesn't mean it's being utilized properly.

the TDS meter measures how many particles are reduced but not what type of particles. If you want to know which is the most efficient in reducing CONTAMINANTS, search for the NFS certificactions that each brand has in their website and that tells you exactly what they are reducing. In my opinion Clearly Filtered is the best out of these 5, ZeroWater the second, because not only Clearly Filtered reduced more CONTAMINANTS, but also, they claim that they add some good trace minerals like calcium, hence the TDS value. Also, their water is alkaline, ZeroWater's is neutral, not sure this is good or not, but i know is not bad, would have to look into the corresponding charge of good trace minerals.

Zero Water obviously filters the most solids, but it has two big drawbacks. For whatever reason, the water taste is not quite as good as with Brita ... but that could be a matter of opinion. I have seen numerous comments, however, to this effect. The bigger issue is the cost of the filters ... much higher cost, and when the filter goes bad, you will know it because it starts to smell like a dead fish. With Brita you need to change filters every so often, but even when they are past their due date the smell will not gag you like with the Zero Water. Conclusion: if cost of frequent filter change is no object to you, go with Zero Water. If you are watching your dollars, Brita gives you great tasting water for a lot less money.

@MetalKid007
@MetalKid007 4 жыл бұрын
The problem is that a Zero Water filter can only pull out so much total TDS from water. Once you reach that limit, you have to replace it. It depends what # you start at. If you have 120 TDS starting, you can probably get 30 or 40 gallons out of it. But if you are in bad states like California or Nevada, you could end up with 900 TDS and it might only end up lasting 5 gallons or just days. While the TDS meter can help you check here and there, you know you need to replace the filter once you have that fish like taste/smell - it means the filter is dead. To be honest, this is probably the biggest complaint of people using Zero Water - because once the filter gets used up, it tastes horrible and will not last months like other, carbon-only filters. And if you live in an area with horrible water, you are going to be shocked how fast the filters get used up.

Isn't it risky for the Zero filter to take out all minerals? Do you have to take a mineral supplement to make up for this?
@huella80
@huella80 3 жыл бұрын
What is bad is the Reverse osmosis or distillation, both process giving an acidic water, meaning that ions will want to bind to minerals that are already in your body, leaking them out. That is why it is recommended always that when you use either of these two systems to add trace minerals to your water. Now, ZeroWater has a PH of 7, which means that it wont harm you, but also wont have extra benefits, and you will have to get your minerals from foods, or in case your nutrition is not optimal from supplements. I am buying the Clearly Filtered pitcher, which has a PH of 8.4, and considering that they are NFS certified reducing 200+ contaminants, i know this PH is not due to contaminants then. Also they claim they add good trace minerals like calcium, what would explain the TDS of 196ppm and PH 8.4.

@3FRAINster 3 жыл бұрын
@@huella80 this is a myth, this same info has been spread all across the internet. There is no way that RO water can leave you sucked dry of vital "minerals or nutrients". There is more than enough minerals provided through someone's diet (foods).

"Over all" not one was better than the other but had individual pros. The only filtered water pitcher that can do all of what these 5 can do and much more is the Aquasana Clean Water Machine but it's like $100.

Oh, if only one of them did everything one wanted 100% - hard to choose: bacteria reduction over lead reduction, etc. etc. Reverse osmosis is still the best - the old design of the soda bottle filled with water and dripping down through a thick carbon filter. Can I still get those filters anywhere? Does anyone know? It'd be the kind of simple solution to contaminated water (all kinds of contaminants) that I think the Peace Corps used in countries abroad.

2nd test I’ve seen Zero water you can always add a tsp or two of pink Himalayan salt to the filtered water if your wanting to add minerals
@MichaelSonnyMartin
@MichaelSonnyMartin 3 жыл бұрын
@Sharon I use pink Himalayan salt almost, if not, every day. And as a former chef, who has two of his sons working as chefs, I use many other types of ‘finishing’ salts too. But, I believe that it is bad advice to recommend anyone add a tsp or two of pink Himalayan or any other salt to their drinking water. The reason is that while pink Himalayan salt does have up to 84 trace minerals it is still 98% sodium chloride. In America, in particular, we have a problem with people consuming way too mmuch sodium in their diet. This is due to its prevalent use in virtually all prepared, canned, jarred or other packaged food. Excess sodium in the diet is very well documented in many, many peer reviewed medical journals to result in increased incidence of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis, kidney disease and liver damage. It is also linked, albeit not as extensively documented in peer reviewed medical journals, but documented none the less, to autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and psoriasis. And if that is not enough to direct you to be careful with your sodium intake there is a recent study that showed a link to obesity. In that study, just one gram of additional sodium per day (that is equivalent to about 1/6 of a teaspoon) increased the risk of obesity by 25%. So, what I would recommend to anyone is that if you want to replace your ‘table’ salt with pink Himalayan salt that would be good for both the fact that it has a better taste and also the extremely minimal amount of trace minerals it would add to your diet. But, my recommendation does not include adding any additional salt, of any kind, to your diet. Especially adding it to the drinking water we all need to consume more of to help our bodies flush the excess sodium and other minerals from our bodies. Kidney stones are a direct result of mineral buildup associated with dehydration. When you consume too much sodium it leaches calcium from your bones while it is being flushed out of your system, through your kidneys. This causes both osteoporosis and an increased risk of kidney stone formation. I could go on but think I’ve made my point. Salt of any kind is not bad. Too much salt is bad and adding salt to your drinking water is almost certainly going to raise the levels of sodium in your body to unhealthy levels.

You Did Not follow the instructions for the Seychelle first you need to hook the filter up to the sink with the provided adapter and run a few gallons of water thru the filter to prime the filter than put it in the pitcher.

Why did they all win a ribbon or an award? Also how can you go off claims? You could not even test for lead. Zero Water claims it reduces a lot of lead too. Wouldn't that make the Zero Water the best with two awards?

Hi, How are you? I understand that Clearly Filtered is expensive, but I would say that it would be my preferred pick over the other water filter pitchers. It's now certified to remove 270 toxins within the tap water and it removes pharmaceutical drugs from the tap water and much more. I a customer of clearly filtered.
