We all know the golden rules of scuba diving, don’t hold your breath don’t go down too deep don’t come up too fast and don’t fart in your drysuit but there are some pretty serious other rules, some written, some unwritten but worth keeping to if you don’t want to be that diver.
So without further adieu, I’m Mark from Simply Scuba and these are 5 of the worst things you can do while scuba diving

The last point you mentionned, ive lived it. Some random divers with full expensive stuff who jumped into the water waiting for us on a shipwreck dive. There were so heavy with all their stuff that they gave up the dive because there were about to die from exhaust ! At least it was a beautiful dive without them !

1. I have been told it's okay to pick up a shark tooth from the water floor. (I never try to remove a shark tooth while still in a sharks mouth.) The dive instructors also encourage us to remove trash, especially if it is plastic. 2. I have been video recording my dives, rather than taking pictures. I can save an image from the video recording if I want, and flashing some marine life isn't a smart idea. 3. I have apologized more than once for accidentally fin kicking fellow divers. This is why most of the dive instructors/dive masters make sure I'm one of the first two in the water. They usually tell me to get away from the water entry point before every one else goes in. 4. When I do ocean/gulf of Mexico dives, I'm usually diving with one of the dive shop instructors. They know my dive limits and keep me out diving trouble. 5. My diving video camera weighs maybe a pound, and I can secure it using a d-ring, before surfacing.
@gbsailing9436

I loss a cellphone (with water protector) while going from 4 meters to the surface... I went to fast that the rope it broke through the thinner section... For my bad luck, the total depth of that area was like 8-10m but visibility was very low (like 1 m distance). Im going to get a submarine and I will secure it with a d-ring you mention.

You showed it a lot this video: Bad trim. Not saying it's always bad to be vertical, but those kicks come really close to the corals. That and divers just being uneasy and flailing arms everywhere etc
@misterkaos.357
@misterkaos.357 6 жыл бұрын
Good point. Descending in a vertical position is sometimes useful, especially when you aren't using a descent line. Finning upward slightly helps control your descent rate, giving you more time to equalize. But once you get 10 feet off the bottom, it's best to switch to horizontal mode.

On my first dive for my certification course someone tried to signal to the instructor that they had 2100 PSI but messed it up so the instructors thought they had 1100 PSI at about 30 feet and so the instructor had us all come back up and everyone was wondering why and so when she asked, why did we all come up so early the instructor says you told me you had 1,100 psi she then procedes to then show the instructor her gauges and she has 2100 everyone's pretty annoyed

well about the "holding onto a rock" i don't necessarily agree. Sometimes you have to grab onto something if there is current for example. Obviously, i always check first that it's only rock i'm grabbing onto and not a coral or any living thing...seagrass is the only living thing i would have no problem grabbing if all else fails. About the rest, i agree. I saw once a scuba instructor bring up a huge empty Pinna Nobilis...like are you crazy? It's known to be protected. And a funny story about ditched gear. When this summer i went diving in Croatia with a team, we had an other team before us that my instructor dove with, and also in our team we had intro and absolute beginner divers too...this was their exam basically (we went with a zodiac so the team was divided into experienced and absolute beginner). And the beginners, and even in the team before us, a lot of people accidentally lost their weights when trying to get back to the zodiac. It fell out of their weight pockets or took the weight belt off upside down and it slid off. And there was a particular place where a lot was lost, so one of our dives at that place was lik: so here we are going to swim around this reef, and then those who have enough air will stay and look for weights. It was under the zodiac so if we wanted we could have just surfaced. It was funny tho, everyone ( some 14is people) just comping through the thick seagrass and searching with their light in the hope of finding weights xD

I think around 30-50 minutes...if everything goes well
@gbsailing9436
@gbsailing9436 2 жыл бұрын
It will depend on your depth. As a beginner you can expect to do 20-30 minute dives which get longer in shallow water. My advice is not to be fixated on how long you can stay down on a particular dive. But more about enjoying the experience, including: What did I learn today?, Did I do everything right?, Did I return with 50BAR of air? How often did I look for: My Buddy?, My air gauge?, My depth gauge? If your answers are only ONCE during the dive, then You have failed that dive and you need to re-evaluate why you are there. You are there to LEARN HOW TO DIVE, Once you have done that, THEN you can enjoy the underwater world!

The most annoying thing are scuba divers that stay in vertical position rather than horizontal. They do not realize how long their fins are and they end up by moving all the sand, hitting rocks and reefs, kicking scuba divers’ head, and not keeping buoyancy by solely adjusting air inside bcd.

Divers that fin while standing straight up instead of belly down. Using your regulator while on the surface, that's what your snorkel is for. Inflating your BC off your tank instead of orally. Ya know the "dont touch anything" protocol seems pretty ridiculous to me.... I GET it and all considering spearfishing is a perfectly legit SCUBA activity. I mean really, what do you thinks causes a bigger rip in the oceans fabric: Me cuddling with a big grouper and taking a couple pics or mean blowing it away with a big spear gun and letting it bleed all over the reef?
@anamoralsb
@anamoralsb 5 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with the fact that a lot of people who want to touch the fish end up harassing them and forcing them to "cuddle" instead of letting the animal come to them naturally.
@hanskuijsten2380
@hanskuijsten2380 5 жыл бұрын
The "not touching" is about doing damage and the fact that seemingly harmless cuddlies can and will turn into ugly biters and stingers when cornered and scared. There are plenty anecdotes about "harmless" nursesharkes biting bodyparts (off).
