*PARTS LIST IN DESCRIPTION BELOW*
5 pin relay wiring can be done many different ways. The two most common ways to wire a 5 pin relay is with a positive trigger and with a negative trigger. Each method has its own benefits. In this video, I show how to wire a relay each way, and how the relay actually works. Rather than trying to read a relay wiring diagram, this video provides the guidance you need to do it yourself without the confusion from schematics. Many people call this type of relay a “Bosch type relay”, because that is the company most known for making them. If you are wiring a relay into your car, this videos shows you all of the relay connections that you need to make to get the job done right!

I've been building my dream car for a while now, mechanical and fabrication I can do, wiring I cannot. I tried looking for complete noob wiring videos a few times but didn't come across yours until recently. I can only assume you set out to use your knowledge to help those who don't know where to start and want it explaining in plain English from top to bottom, and my god you have succeeded. I want to build a completely new body harness for the car to have only what I want and need, how I want it, and I didn't know where to start. But after watching almost all of your videos I actually have the confidence to do so and will be ordering all my wiring supplies in the near future. Keep up the good work man, you do it flawlessly.

@rattymusclecar - You stated another use for negative triggers "were if you had a whole bank of relays under the hood..." and it got me thinking and now asking if you could do a comparison of the benefits between wiring positive and negative triggers in relay banks for "race car" style panels. I am finishing up my panel under the dash using your videos: Hotrod race car wiring and the inertia switch video. Your comment about negative triggers has me wondering if I could have done the wiring differently and therefore making it even nicer by running less wires via negative triggers. What do you think?

Subscribed and learning from you, Thank you. I have seen, so far, about five of your wiring vids. Great stuff including the race car ones (Demolition derby fan here) and Im trying to apply what your showing here, in this vid, to something you touched on. For me my cars headlights must be on/auto in order to turn on the "fog" lights. To me, amber fog lights are negated with headlights having to be on.. eesh. im not asking for direct help but welcome for sure, maybe direct me to one of your videos that will suport my plight :). Is it this one? Oh and i'd noticed in some of your builds you tell why or some common probs/trouble ppl have like tips on diods. Thats welcome info for sure. 09 acura tl shawd

Ok, so could we use a two prong flasher in line with 87a to alternate the side marker lamps and front turn signals like a wig wag ? I have LED white/yellow bulbs to utilize the nice clear lenses in the grille as both daytime tuning lights and switch to yellow for turn signal when there is a load on them I have the same ones in my older Grand Cherokee, Auxitos have lasted me quite a while so far. The new side marker lamp assemblies I have are also LED. Would love for them to alternate flashing

Ok Mr. Ratty Muscle Car, I have a rebel wiring harness with a fuse box. Would it be proper to use the same hotwire coming from the fuse box to power your switched line going to pin 86 and coming out of the fuse box send power to pin 30 as long as it's before your switch going to pin 86. Seems to me doing it this way you only use one fuse to cover 2 lines
@WiringRescue
@WiringRescue Жыл бұрын
That should be okay to do, but just be aware that the same fuse that protects your accessory is the one that protects your switch. So it’s possible that the switch side of the circuit OR the accessory side of the circuit could pop the fuse making diagnosing issues a tiny bit more challenging. Lastly - I’m am just some random guy on the internet, so please do additional research so your info comes from multiple reliable sources! :)

I have a question regarding this wondering if you can help. I have a headlight that is using its original harness and an additional for the led lights I purchased . But they have included a line for signal lights no negative line integrated in the led but it has only 1 line for signal . I have purchased a generic harness ( street legal kit) and tried splicing in on there positive with the signal led it also has an led flash relay it recognized it starts flashing as soon i put the positive of the harness on a positive terminal the signal indicator colum that came with the kit is in the off position what could this be . Any help is greatly appreciated.

Instead of several relays which are ignitioned triggered, why not to add just one giant 200A relay and let this control an extra fuse box. This wiring will be ignition triggered and attached to this fuse box are components like power windows, headlights, turn signals, radiator fan, fuel pump etc. Will this work?

So how to switch both off ? Coz when i switch off the car the lights will stay on? How does that part work.... Just wondering..... Do i add another ON/OFF switch to control power to the light switch or pin 30 to the Key ignition?

Does the fuse that’s going to #30 have to be sized for the device it could be controlling or the size of the relay? If that wiper motor is 20 anp and the relay is 40 amp rating, what size fuse goes to #30 ?
@WiringRescue
@WiringRescue Жыл бұрын
The fuse should be rated for the device that the relay is controlling. So in your example, you would want a 20-25 amp fuse on pin 30.

You are very welcome. I'm wondering. It embarrassing to admit I was a mechanic for years. I pretty much stopped working on cars oh mid 90s. Needless to say I didn't do wiring hahaha. Buy do u have a video on how to find shorts ?? I've got a 91 standard cab base 2.5 4 cylinder automatic S10 and I have a short that's popped up. It blows the running light and dash light fuse. I have an idea it's got something to do with the radio I just put in it. I used wires that went to the old radio. When I turn headlights on the radio turns off an now its blowing the fuse. I have to admit I did try cleaning up some of my wiring glum I had from putting gages, a push button and a couple toggle switches in. After watching a lot videos etc. Bmi apologize for bothering you with all this I'm sure it's a radio wire and I can find the problem BUT I would love to be able to or know how to actually be able to pin pint it hopefully by just needing a ohm meter a test light. I apologize again and any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks jeff
