I commend your clear and steady enunciation - so refreshing after so many youtubers with their indistinct speech, their attempts to be wacky and humorous (not), and five minute waffle before getting to the actual meat of the video.

Good info and ideas. I have a number in mind for a build, but pretty much all of the contractors want to know the number before giving me the cost to build. So we are kind of stuck right now.

When I was looking at this I didn't do a cupola because it is non-functional. If you could actually draw air through it then maybe. I went taller - 16' eaves because then a 2nd floor is a thing and you never worry if you have a car lift and so on. The cost of going higher is less than going with a bigger footprint because concrete slabs are expensive. As someone else mentioned go with a big garage door. There is always something that is a little too tall or where some extra width would make life much easier. A standard garage door will not handle a 4x4 full size truck or other things that you might want to bring in. It also gives you wiggle room around any vehicle that is already there so you can more easily get by without moving it. If you live in a moist area then a vapor barrier under the slab will help with dampness.

Good video. Nice building. I hadn’t thought about using the type of insulation you used. Does it put off any gases ? I’m thinking about building a pole barn home just wondering Thanks

What are the dimensions of your building?
@stevevice9863

Glad to see you used closed cell spray foam insulation. People don't realize how much a metal building will condensate on the interior surface of the roofing and siding if left uninsulated. Even fiberglass "bag and batt" will still allow condensation to form because it will not fit tightly and cover every square inch of metal. The"Barndominium" craze drives me nuts because so many people don't want to spring for sprayfoam insulation and they will be trapping condensation inside their walls to form mold and rot. There aren't any short cuts.
@gary24752

Exposed closed cell insulation NEEDS to be covered with an intuminescent paint by code.

Thank you for the comment Steve. This is actually open cell but I think your point is still valid regardless of open or closed.

You could have gone with a vault/scissor truss and even used steel bar joist style. Then you could have your raised storage AND a much taller door. If you go to high on a small footprint building, it just looks stupid.
@dexterranch
@dexterranch 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah they look silly when they get to tall. Scissor truss would have been the way to go for me.

Regarding your point about eave overhangs, are you pointing out the ones you did, or are you saying you wish you had done more? What exactly are you recommending?

I bought the SafeGuard Dewormer block. It looks that the salt, molasses, medicated block was melted and pour into the cardboard container. Do you just put it with the cows as is or do you remove all the cardboard? I think if it is all exposed the cows have more surface to lick and may get overmedicated. What's your recommendation? Thanks
@dexterranch
@dexterranch 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. I think the cardboard is just meant to be little legs to keep it up off of the ground a little. Just make sure you pick it up after the 3rd day and I’m certain everything will be fine as far as the over medicating goes.

Some good points but basically if I like the look of my building then I am satisfied, if I want cupola ok if I don't care ok if I like eves ok if not ok it's all up to the perception of the beholder

Good point. I think the point of the video is just to inspire thought about certain things before it’s to late and the building is complete.

How much higher would you have gone?
@dexterranch
@dexterranch 2 жыл бұрын
For my building I think 14’ would have been just right. That would have left me in a place to make a loft with 5-6ft height, and 7-8ft left below in that area. Maybe do scissor trusses also. 16 would be the better, but I just feel like it would start looking weird unless you had a really large building.

@@dexterranch it is a nice looking building though, good luck. I watched another video to get tips on sizing and cost and a guy had a 30x40 that was 12' tall and had built a small loft portion at the back, bottom was 6' clear, top was less of course but still allowed him to store small projects and materials that weren't needed but occasionally
