I just went yesterday to get a look at my eyes to see if I could qualify for surgery. I went to a strabismus specialist in Houston, he told me my muscle is off so slightly that its barley visible, but he did notice it. (mild exotropia) I'm so disappointed and upset, I do suffer from headaches, sometimes if I don't focus my eyes I will see double. Its so exhausting living everyday with this, I don't take selfies because every single selfie my eye turns outwards. I never get in photos unless I have to, because my eyes don't align and its very embarrassing. My doctor said I could get a second opinion but it's so frustrating to have somebody tell you just because its the smallest movement that it isn't a big deal and to come back in 6 months. I've been researching this for about 5 years, over this time I've had people make comments about my eye and people will stare at me like they notice it but don't quite understand because they don't want to hurt my feelings. I finally got the courage up to go get an opinion and its like my hopes of having my strabismus fixed went out the window.

I am so sorry! That would be so frustrating. I remember going to my surgeon the first time and telling him I wanted to see in 3D and he told me that there was only a 2% chance. I felt so deflated. If you want to schedule a consult with me, I'd be happy to help you figure this all out! strabismussolutions.com/consult/

You can find me on Instagram @strabismus2stereopsis my vision before and after surgery was pretty consistent. Usually, if you don’t have double vision before, you won’t have it after. I had some double before. Right after surgery I had a ton of double vision, but it slowly went away and went back to normal after 2-3 weeks.

Idk if its worth it or not for me :( my eye turns in very slightly and its hardly noticeable UNTIL i look certain directions or look down. Or when i get tired, my eyes are strained, or i have anxiety, i can feel my eye turning in :( and it happens all day long so I definitely am going to look in to the surgery, i just dont want them to over correct my eye since its not that bad

Your surgeon will decide that. They can actually do it on both or either one. Since the eyes work together and are a "yoked" system, there are many ways to achieve the same result.

@@sukh._.6043 I left the surgery center about 27 hours ago now. Recovery is going very well and so far, I couldn't ask for better results. Perfect binocular vision/fusion. My post op is on Thursday, but as long as these results last, it was SUPER worth it! Very uncomfortable yesterday.. tried to rest and sleep as much as possible and wear sunglasses everywhere, even inside. The light was just too much because my pupils were dilated so much. Today, though, discomfort is at a minimum. Like I said, I really couldn't ask for more at this point.

I had esotropia in my right eye. My opthalmologist said that I need surgery for both eyes. And I did my right eye surgery first and then after 2 months I did the left one. It's been now almost 6 weeks I had my left eye surgery but I don't get back the binocular vision and double vision is still exist but it's fading away slowly. So is it normal to not get back the binocular vision because I'm in adult? And another question is, for the last 7 days my right eye suddenly seems exotropia a bit. Some times it becomes normal and sometimes it seem much. I'm very confused about this. Is it temporary because the eyes are healing or there's any other reason?
@arthursimsa9005

What makes you say that "you did not get back the binocular vision"? Back compared to what - have you ever had binocular vision? If you haven't, surgery won't miraculously develop binocular vision.
@strabismustostereopsis7799
@strabismustostereopsis7799 2 жыл бұрын
Binocular vision is very complex and needs to be fine tuned through exercises. The surgery may not stick if the brain can't properly use the images from both eyes.

The brain aligns the eyes or turns the eye to stop double vision. This is a brain problem, not an eye muscle problem. When you cut muscles you remove the feedback loop for muscle alignment. And depth perception is NOT improved in strabismus surgery, in fact, the opposite is true. Especially in adults. If you want cosmetic alignment for a while (a month or so), go for it. If you have to do more than 1 surgery, it means it didn't work. Just the facts.
