The resolution is nice but the IBIS is fantastic on the xt5. The batteries last twice as long,it focuses faster than xt3, the older lenses seem to have better image quality. The xt5 jpg,s are only 20 mb easy to deal with. Definitely worth the upgrade. Thank you so much for asking !

@Stan_the_Belgian is it though? The “of course” part ain’t always that obvious (I still prefer the old 26mp sensor ove the new 40 - even thought it’s newer and one would say “better”). Interesting debate I think. Thanks for stopping by!

I have an xt3 and perfectly happy with it, also an old 5d canon to itch the old sensor debate, the ibis would be nice to use non IS lenses (save some money) and the better autofocus is just...better. I don't have a spare 2k otherwise I would at least buy to try😂

to be honest I did the same. I bought a 100-400 for motorsport but I'm not impressed. Im not 100% pleased with the results and the reason I think is that xt3 lacks of ibis and a combination with a telephoto makes shooting a crisp and clear subject when moving fast a difficult task.

The X-T3 is still more than enough camera for me as an amateur. I can do pretty much any type of photography with it. For me, the price is also a big factor. Not only with the camera, but also the lenses. Back in fall when all the new stuff came out I was finally able to find two barely used lenses I've wanted for a while at very good prices. I am quite happy with the T3, the 18-55, the XF56 v1.0 and the XF90 along with a few vintage lenses. I am quite happy!! Thanks and have a great day!

@@BTMovieSecondChannel Around 1100 with the lens, grip, extra batteries, two chargers, all original box and equipment in brand new condition. It was a big purchase for me. But, I did a lot of shopping for a good year. Other bodies cost more than what I paid for everything that came with mine. I even looked at the X-T2, but at the time I only found bodies. That meant I'd need to buy a lens separately which took the total close to 2K.

I'm still using and loving my X-T3 (usually with a battery grip, a facility that the X-T5 has bizarrely dropped). However, I also have the Sony A7RV, and I do have the options to change the resolutions of the RAW files. I mainly use it at 26mp, but more than occasionally 'treat' myself to a nice luscious 61mp image! Like you said, had the X-T5 given me a similar option, I would have upgraded from the X-T3, the lack of a battery grip being less if an issue with the better batteries, although I would miss the vertical controls.

Agree with most of that. Although, I chew through batts on my 3 when pushing the camera hard. Which leads me to processor, which can also bog when being pushed. Between the bigger batt and faster processor, the 5 has a clear advantage. And Ibis would be great, no brainer on a crop sensor. That said, barely used x3 body, 23, 56, and 18-135 for about the price of an x5 body is compelling, and what I did.

I currently own older X-T20 and X-T2 (also X-Pro1). My tripod mount screws on my X-T2 sheered off. I have been shooting it since 2018. I don't want to pay the repair cost to fix it, because except for that, it works fine. I am thinking of getting a newer body, and was considering the X-T3. I agree with you, I don't need more MPs. Thanks for the video.

Keeping your cameras till the end - love it! I still own my XT2 and sometimes use it - it's a great camera indeed. I do think the XT3 is a great choice if you're not looking at mp and "latest and greatest". Depends on your needs since for example the battery is about half the capacity on the XT3 than an XT4 or XT5. But if you don't mind that then you're good to go. Take care!

Thanks. I’d just add that newest glass looks super sharp on the 26mp sensor, and the AF performance is a clear leap ahead from the oldest/“worst” lenses. Hence you don’t need a better body to enjoy an upgrade, per se, but better glass has been worth every penny and will perform even better if I ever switch to a 40mp body. But ya, no vertical battery grip cured my upgradeitis for the XT5-such a dumb move by Fuji. XH2 solves that, I guess, but if I go PASM, it will probably be with a Nikon, Canon, or GFX.

People are forgetting upgrading is not always better. Eventually we'll always need to upgrade but to keep buying the newest and latest version that comes out is just wasting your money. It's only worth it if you are someone who is filthy rich and buy 10 mirrorless cameras if you wanted without a hitch. Sure, go ahead spend another 2k on a new release if that's pocket change for you. If you upgrade, you'll also need to spend another $5K to invest in a new PC with top of the line graphics card which is hella expensive. You'll have to keep upgrading your PC specs to keep up with the processing power that is required. You'll need to upgrade to newer software programs too. Buy larger storage drives like 22TB drives ($400 each) won't be enough and you'll need to buy a few of those to keep on hand as well as more memory cards as 512gb will be way too small now. So yeah, upgrading will cost you a lot more money than just the camera.

Thanks for this video Chris. I'm mega excited about upgrading from switching from Canon to Fujifilm (even though I love my M50 MK ii). I've decided to go for the X-T4 cause of the battery life, IBIS and fully articulated screen for my KZfaq headshots, but I understand that the X-T3 is also a beast of a camera with the same sensor. Therefore, this video has definitely made me realise that 26MP will be more than enough for my paid surf photography/videography work as well as high quality travel photography images. To be honest, if it weren't for the factors I mentioned about the X-T4, I probably would go for the X-T3.

Hey there - great - welcome to the family! if you do video with your Fuji camera, the T4 makes more sense indeed (I'd go with the XH2s probably since we are still talking 26.1mp but it means a budget and to start the T4 is amazing). And yes, 26mp is definitely enough for most of the photographers out there (not to mention the high ISOs will be handled better with a lower mp count). Take care and enjoy!

Hi Cris, I own the XT5 and a selection of "old" lenses and they produce wonderful results. Although I sold my XT3 over a year ago, comparing the results using the 35mm f1.4 they look crisper on the XT5. I think Fujifilm has confused everybody with their statement about the "old" lenses. According to a Fujifilm rep last year, he told me the resolution thing only concerned these older lenses at their lowest aperture. Once stopped down a bit they are fine and can take full advantage of the sensor.
@cris_photography
@cris_photography Жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, thanks and that’s very possible re: the lenses. Personally I like the “less” crisp and sharp results of the 26mp sensor personally (the reason why I always refused to go with Sony is because of the sharpness of the images and the clinical look). But the T5 definitely is an Amazing camera and the logical evolution for the XT series 👍🏼 Take care!

@@cris_photography of course, it's very subjective. But Fuji limited the x-t5 without it imho, making the xh's the only "pro options with a grip for the real photographer blabla" whereas the x-t5 becomes more of an enthusiast/prosumer camera. It might sound that I'm exaggerating, but looking at the x-t50 as well, it seems like this is the new trend: xtxx replaces the xtxxx line, the xtx becomes the new xtxx line and the xhx is the new pro

I use a pair of XT-5's for concert photography and it's been a mistake I should have known better but jumped in from my X-T3s. File size for me has become an issue when you shoot circa 800 images per show, the buffer is well... Crap and I obviously know there was no grip but it's become a bug bear as the ergonomics for me are not great. It's a great camera, but just not a great tool for my job, I'm seriously thinking of going back to an X-T3 with an X-T4 as I definitely will stay with Fuji.

Nice video Cris and I can understand many of the points you raised. I have always found it tough trying to work out which of the Fuji cameras is right for me ever since I moved from my Nikon DSLRs and pre-ordered the X-Pro2 when it was first announced. Certainly you make very valid points about the positive and negative sides to pixel-counts. More pixels gives greater resolution but possibly more noise so that is something to bear in mind. Also much larger file sizes so memory is another constraint. Then there is the style of rear screen; non-moving on the X-Pro2, 3-way tilt on the X-T2 and 3 against the front-flip X-T4 and so on. Plus different battery types, the availability of add-on battery grips etc. I guess I am lucky in that I have been able to buy, and keep, my X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4 and now I have also added an X-T5 so I can choose different cameras depending on my mood and need on the day. But for most folk, it can be a tough choice. Then of course there is the added option of one of the X100 range, the X-Pro3 and the XH series. Luckily I have never wanted one of any of those but it does add to both the choice and confusion. Your video was very interesting and informative Cris and I look forward to the next.

All good stuff and I agree that the XT3 is still a great camera producing great image quality if you don't need to crop in too far. One point I think is a bit unfair is about the lenses. Yes, Fujifilm - and they may have dropped a clanger here - have produced a list of lenses that are capable of resolving the full 40mp of the new sensor.....but, and this is backed up by Fuji themselves, the "older" lenses not on that list WILL perform BETTER on the XT5 than on the XT3..... This is because those lenses are capable of resolving 30 - 35 mp depending on the lens. This is greater than they can achieve on the old 26mp sensor.....so, it isn't necessary to change the lenses, just that there are some that will give better resolution for higher cropping and retaining more detail. This is hinted at in the small print at the bottom of that "list" that Fuji produced

Now, if I upgrade to x-t5 from my x-t3, I only need one type of battery for both cameras. I don’t need the vertical grip anymore and I really simplify my system. I’ve got quite a few lenses and I may even trim down some of those as well. I still have the Fuji F 35 1.4 and I really love that lens and I just can’t part with it. Leica is not the only company that allows you to adjust the size of raw files. Nikon has had that feature since at least 2017 (the D850 has it), Sony has it since their new menu system (which I belive debuted in the a7R IV), Canon has had it as early as 2013 (the 6D has it). Please don't spread the myth that you NEED to upgrade lenses. There is no magical hard limit that causes the 40mp sensor to be completely wasted just because of "non-optimized" lenses. Even older lenses still get a net-gain in detail from the 40mp sensor. It's extremely important to clarify that even if you have a bad lens, the only thing that will happen when you move to a higher resolution camera is that the impression of sharpness >per pixel< might be lower, but the >total< amount of detail in the image will still be at least as good as before. The way you word it can cause people to believe that they get a net-loss of detail if the lenses don't live up to the sensor resolution. This myth has been going on since the Nikon D800, it needs to die.

Im shooting my first wedding with an xt3 but im having troubles focusing on 2 people walking down the isle towards me, any advise with the settings or what to do ?

Hello, I’d normally set my AF to spot (no continuous focus, tracking, etc.) and close down the aperture a bit (around 4-5.6) and point, focus, reframe if necessary and shoot. That’s how I do. Cheers

@@cris_photography if you touch to focus manualy, when they walk out of the focus point wont it blur?
@cris_photography

Oh yes of course it will! That's why you've got to be quick AND close down your aperture to avoid have too shallow a DOF :) get a couple of friends and tell them to walk slowly towards you like a bride and groom would do and drill. That's how you'll get better at it without relying solely on AI and auto-focus ;) Take care

I shoot professionally, with two XT2s. I actually considered the XT5 but for me, the deal killer was the lack of the battery grip, which I use, mostly for the vertical trigger and vertical controls. Every XT single digit camera has had the battery grip option. I can’t believe Fuji took this off. Also, the low light performance is awesome on the XT2. Instead, I invested in 10 Fuji lenses.

Hey Nathan, thanks and can't agree more! I still use my X2 for weddings along side my T3. The grip was something I was going to mention but since I personally never use them I didn't - but I know it's a deal breaker for many. Exactly - get 10 lenses and go shoot! Take care

I was thinking about switching to Canon DSLR full frame, but I have an XT3 I would like to play around with more and explore. And hopefully save money it would cost for me to switch lol. You mentioned buying 10 lenses. Do you have any recommendations on affordable Fuji lenses? Don't worry I've been scouring the internet and KZfaq for answers. Just thought asking a person directly would help 😅. Cheers.

@@zerospecs2331 well, I got lucky on the first five because I was able to get them for almost half price. Long story. But all the rest I bought used and got good deals. There are people that switch systems or that buy a lens and just find it’s not for them, and they really are perfectly working and excellent lenses for great prices. The most expensive ones I bought was the 56 mm and I got it on sale for 799 instead of $999. But all the rest I got for huge discounts used.

Dear Cris, i understand your position but i think you forgot some things: 1) the stabilization of X-T5 2) the auto focus 3) the possibility of cropping images. 4) i don't have the X-t3 🤣

Ciao Mauro! Didn’t forget anything - that’s my reasons not to buy it (there’s nothing to “forget” 😁 1) don’t care about IBIS (never did - never will) 2) I focus the good old way and I always will (hell I even shoot manual focus on Leica M cameras) so definitely not a must for me 3) I mentioned that. But 40mp is an overkill for the editing I do (I “crop” with my legs when am shooting usually) 4) 😂😂 ok that’s a good point 😉 Take care

Leica is not the only one allowing to reduce the size of raw files - Sony since the A1 & A7IV also gives the possibilty. In the A7IV you have 33, 14 and 8 MP. And i believe the A7RV has 26MP when selected Medium which is the sweetspot you obviously prefer 😉 I also will propably get a XH2S cause of the 26MP and uncropped 4K60. BUT Leicas reducing algorithm seems a lot smarter... 60 to 36 is a very good step and 18 also perfectly usable. If the The XT5 would get this feature they would presumably reduce to 20MP like the Jpgs which is a bit too much of a step. 40,30,20 would be perfect i think.

@@cris_photography I unfortunately doubt it. Unfortunately, Fuji has also become really sluggish when it comes to updates. The XH2S has been launched almost 8 months ago and still no usability updates for XH2S and S, only a AF update for the S...
