In this video I will try to illustrate that no camera is objectively ”better” than another. It all depends on the user. So I give 5 reasons to buy either a Sony RX1r ii or a Fuji X100f.
I always recommend buying gear used. Checkout used X100 and RX1 cameras at MPB and if you find one you also help support this channel by using the links:

100% right. (about buying a camera that makes you want to shoot) I ditched Sony as my carryaround for the Olympus em10 mark 2, but now Ive just sold that for the Olympus EM5 mark 2. It has that flippy screen that I know both you and I arent a fan of. But I LOVE how the buttons and dials feel under my fingers.

I agree with what you said starting on 7:50. I used to shoot with Canon 70D, 50mm stm, and 10-22mm. Before I was about to shift to mirrorless, all the signs say I should switch to Sony a6300 and the line. Specs and paper wise, it's better for what I do; photo and video. But the Fujifilm XT1 has been my dream camera even before it came out. All the articles and video say how crappy it is for video. Both sony and fuji have expensive native lenses, but I can use my canon lenses on Sony with an adapter and would still be able to use autofocus. I have held the XT10 on my hands before and it felt like magic. When my friend's Sony a6300 arrived. I had the chance to hold it and use it as well. But I didn't feel any connection. It felt like I was just holding another computerised machine. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying it's bad. It's actually very good. When I used its viewfinder, I love the brightness of the focus peaking, but I didn't like the viewfinder itself. It felt small and just okay. So I got an XT1. And boy when I first held it in my hands, there was a connection. It was magical and natural. When I turned it on and looked through the viewfinder, I fell in love even more. It was big, bright, accurate, and beautiful. The only thing it lacked was the brightness of the focus peaking like what the Sony has. Now, I'm using my XT1 with full manual lenses. Olympus penf 38mm f1.8, Samyang 12mm f2, Canon FD 135mm f2.8. And I haven't missed the autofocus even once. I've never looked for it since I started using full manual lenses on my Fujifilm. Again, it feels natural in my hands. It's gorgeous. Everything about it makes me go out and shoot more. I am no longer earning unwanted attentions. People are no longer seeing me as pro. Strangers aren't being intimidated for portraits now. When I take it out from the bag, no one looks at me like when I still had my Canon dslr. I'm no longer being held down by the weight of the gears. I am enjoying photography even more. I use it both for photos and videos. And while it may not be the best specs wise and paper wise, it does the job for me and improves my game. Even the moire issue when shooting video with the Fujifilm's first batch of X sensor disappeared when I started focusing on creating and shooting, instead of reading what's best and good and bad about it. When how it feels matter more than what the paper says, I felt contented.

I have a confession to make. I have subscribed to your channel not primarily because of the product reviews (which are excellent) but because of the seemingly endless supply of creative and downright beautiful photos you produce as examples of what the cameras can do ... or, rather, what a talented photographer like yourself can do with virtually any decent camera. Very inspiring ! Thank you. Have you considered making videos about composition and perhaps post processing ?

Mattias Burling Absolutely.. I don't own a camera anymore but i still like to be in the loop! I had to sell for bill related reasons, but I'm saving for another one and like to get inspiration from these videos. I did a lot of portraits and wedding receptions was mainly what I did was just way underpaid for my time and it wasn't worth my time spent editing and shooting and took all the fun from it. Now I just want one for me to get that feeling back to create for myself. That was always the intent for me was the personal satisfaction it gave me to just go out and shoot. I'm a Sony lover mostly at heart. But the cost is just to rich for me. So I've been looking into more of a point and shoot that still offers near what you can find on the full frame sony lineup from the fujifilm x100f or any fuji that is 24 mgp. I cant afford lenses like that so I am gonna get a point and shoot and just use my legs to zoom. But i always appreciate when I see a new video popup. I hope you are enjoying what you're doing here, and it's worth your time spent. Just wanted you to know it is very informative and inspirational for me and I'm very sure for others as well. So I wanted to share my thanks! Take care mate

When you eventually come back with a new camera - do it for yourself. If you want a decent camera that you can buy preowned - dont overlook the Leica X typ 113 - decent ones can be a found at a price you might live with vs a Fuji, or Sony. The lens, and image quality thought will surprise you massively.

The main advantage of the Fuji as compared to the sony is the incredible Jpeg out of the camera. I used to own an RX1 (the vanilla model) and the jpeg were quite jarring, forcing me to spend time on lightroom to adjust the colors. On the other hands, Fuji's jpeg look absolutely stunning. For people who do not enjoy the computer post-processing, that's a huge selling point.

I have a RX1R and a X100F. For what it's worth, there really is no competition. The Fuji is a great camera with a good lens. The RX1R is in a whole other league though. It's not comparable to the Fuji in image quality. I honestly think the RX1R a future classic.

Didn’t think it was a real thing until I got my hands on one. I’ve had the pleasure of using Sony, canon, nikon, panasonic and Olympus. Fuji is by far my favorite with Canon in second place.

Thank you! This video inspired me to buy the original RX1 to accompany my DP3 Merrill with a more usable every-day camera that matches in IQ. And wow... needs some getting used to, because the different weight distibution requires a completely new "handling style". The DP3 lens is significantly lighter, and does not excert that much torque on your left hand. I wonder if that hot shoe grip thingie helps.

I owned both cameras more than a year and I ended up selling them both. IMHO, sony has only 3 advantages. Thes best is the Zeiss lens, the second is full frame sensor and the third is LCD screen (especially for street photos) I think Sony's high ISO performance is much better than any Fuji APS-C cameras available (incl. X-T3) and the close-ups with Sony's 35mm Zeiss lens is sharper than 23mm on X100f.. But despite all the benefits of Sony RX1R Mark II, I still think that Fuji X100f is a much more completed camera for the price. I had 5 extra batteries for my Sony and it was really annoying to change batteries all the time and that blackouts after every shot, because of higher megapixels on a lower cpu. I'm considering to try out a Leica Q if I'm happy enough to find one used for a good price. In the other hand I also excited to see Sony's new version of this amazing peace of technology.

Because of this video, I bought both of them(used of course). The Sony is surprisingly good, I bought the original rx1 first and immediately fell in love with it. Soon I came across the mark 2 with a very good price, bought it and sold the mark 1. The mark 2 is very good but I don't think it can justify the price difference. The x100f is actually my third one, I bought the first one in silver couple months ago then swapped to a black one , did like it, but didn't suit my need at the time. This time around I will be looking at it from a different perspective. I probably will sell my rx1r2 soon which will cover the cost of the x100f maybe getting another rx1 and still with money left.

While I'm largely happy with my original X100, the larger sensor and better lens of the RX1r has always tempted me. The caveats are the much thicker dimensions, smaller battery, and way higher price. The mark II's cost is way outside appropriate parameters at this time. Nice comparison, though. Seeing the latest Fuji battery was surprising. Thanks for this!

Thank you! Love your pup! I want the aperture control on my lenses like in the film days so I will take the Fuji. Also, I stopped at SONY with the Nex-7. I do not like menu diving!

Cinnamon Girl The aperture is on the lens on both. But that is a super modern thing. In the film days they would never put it on the lens of an electronic aperture. I like it retro, with the aperture on top.

Nice. Yeah the RX1's are really nice. Full frame goodness. Still, the Fuji X100 line is very sleek and very well "analogue" looking. For street photography it looks so harmless. And harmless is how you get pictures! Also no shutter sound... aaah... silence. The camera I have is awesome.. yet has shutter sound, rather loud shutter sound, rather obvious shutter sound. So that will never make a sleek street machine. Yes I can get some lovely images of things I see in cities, and details! Definitely! But people will hear the shutter and notice.

Masticina Akicta The rx1 looks smaller and also has soundless shutter. Imo its just a matter of price and personal taste :)

I have the x100f and just ordered a Sony rx1r ii (it was at a very good price). I have been shooting Fuji for a bit now, from x-t1, switched to Ricoh gr, then x-t20, for the past year x100f. I have been more than satisfied with the F. There was just something slightly off with it. The lens. At wide open, it's a little soft. Aside from that, the shooting experience I have with the F is what really stuck with me. I'll try the rxr for a month before I make a decision which one to keep

makes you wonder if there is ever going to be a camera that has everything . like an x100f look with a lens that detaches and supersharp at any distance and non noisy high iso . I've been back and forth on buying an x100f now for weeks . I kinda want it for the amateuristic look , I'm not brave enough to streetshoot with my 6DII or 7DII . I'm too freaking shy , and also stuff like that fuji feels inspiring , like it's going to have me want to be braver .

the Sony Rx1r2 is great. It has full frame in a compact body, zeiss lens, 42MP,... but the price is super high even after 2 years of its release! Is it worth it to get the Rx1r2 in 2017? Or wait for the Rx1r3 (or whichever is the successor of the Mark 2..) OR just get the first generation Rx1r, is it enough?

I have the x100s, beautiful camera that really fits in the pocket. The sony lens size stopped that as it poked out too far. The fuji isn't perfect, mainly the focus speed is imo too slow in some situations but for what I use it for, it's perfect. I have another camera for faster action.

for subject seperation, portraiture and all round more beautiful pictures and iq quality thats where the sony makes up for its price and by being full frame. Fuji files have a flat look usually even with their new medium format camera

That's interesting, I've tested myself by scrolling through images on 500px... Any time there is a super flat looking image I click for more info and find it's Sony 9 times out of 10. It's the whole reason why I left sony for fuji. I did find sony to be sharper though. Freakishly sharp.

There are only two reasons why I've got x100v and not the rx1rII - dimensions and price. Fuji can be easily carried around and it is 2x cheaper. If that doesn't matter - sony is the way to go in my opinion. And I'm really surprised why every reviewer doesn't say how crappy Fuji's mobile app is, almost returned my camera because of that

Nice to meet you, I love the old Leica Summilux 35mm F1.4. I'm sure, the difference between Fuji's lens 23mm F2 and Sony's Sonner 2/35 or the difference in image quality is the expression of the skin feeling. For example, I think that there are overwhelming differences in the representation of brick walls and wooden boards that have been wet with rain. It is a natural portrait with a glossy surface due to sweat and sebum. So, I conclude that SONY's * T Sonner is a linear tone expression, but it is said that it is not comparable to Fuji's X100F lens.

As a Fujifilm X-T2 owner with 18-55mm, 56mm 1.2 and 10-24mm am thinking of switching to Sony because of that Full Frame look. For me photos from APSC-sized sensors are just too flat to my eye.
