Love watching and learning from you. Plan is to be ready for livestock, ie sheep and chickens, hopefully within the year. Just got our septic permit so we can start the building process and get a well drilled! So excited! It has taken almost a year to get to this point!

Reason six for keeping sheep, they are intelligent, funny, friendly & love human company. My girls are real time wasters, I could spend hours just watching them. They are tough & resourceful. The only down side is, you need very good secure fencing! They are expert escapologists!!!!

Sheep pull what they eat out by the roots. Cattle just bite off the tops of the vegetation they consume, allowing it to grow back. Sheep herding can turn a meadow into a wasteland if you aren't careful.

yes they do. I run many hundred sheep and they can WRECK your land. You have to do alot more work with sheep on "smaller acreages" than cattle.

Three cows at 1100lbs. will bring ~$4500-4700 at market. And get rid of your weeds.

Cows trample everything as they eat, though. Have you seen the navajo nation by highway 491! That’s all cow damage. Hardly anyone owns sheep. Larry Casuse’s uncle, rest his soul, owned a bunch of goats and had a consistently clean yard free of weeds, but no trampling.

This sums up every reason we went into sheep, additionally was that fact that there weren’t many year round lambing operations as competition. The last fact wasn’t really a concern in our particular situation, I would like a larger sheep over our Dorpers, they can be a tad tiny for taller individuals to work with, say, over a mini-horse…. I mean Suffolk, some Hamps maybe.

With my girl got an “epiphany “ , we live in the city but we don’t like it for our future family. We know we want a land… but didn’t know really where how or what. Just the goal. She long time ago did a business with the name of kasmere and it was related import export way before I knew her … then, we have a favorite song called Kashmir- the Led Zeppelin, and talks about Pilot (I am ) and a lot of stuff we didn’t realize it was us. We love Secret knowledge, but more Jesus , and the fact that the globalist want us to be in cities and depend on them we literally now want to be shepherds… we really want to be ranchers and get into the sheep and goat business… I don’t know how are we gonna get there 😂 but I trust God decisions and we feel the call to do It. Those little details are just the beginning of a new family who knows where ❤. Love your videos 🙏🏼 God Bless

It's always been strange to me that lamb is one of the lesser popular proteins in the US, but also how it's usually farmed isn't as tasty as pasture raised. Would love to hear your perspective on about how that came to be.

Yes you’re awesome. You’ve talked with Gabe Brown I believe, meaning that when you mobstock your cattle giving them much smaller amounts of space everyday the cattle will eat way more weeds and other items that cattle would’ve ever touch if left on open pasture. Even with that, yes, sheep still eat more weeds than cows. I hope to eventually have some land and like you I intend to run sheep along with a couple of steer and a couple of goats in the same paddock. I feel with the 3 different breeds, weeds won’t stand a chance and the diversity will also help improve the soils.

We started out with sheep. A lot lower entry cost than cattle. Our biggest challenge with sheep was predator control. We got some livestock guardian dogs that helped fight against predation, though didn't entirely eliminate it.

They are more willing to climb a steep slope too, and they winter better with that coat. Also you have choice of wool breeds requiring shearing or hair breeds which self-shear. And dystocia is less dangerous for the manager to assist.

Some problems with this are fencing sheep is much more expensive than for cattle. Sheep can average from150 to 300 lbs depending on breed. Rams can be very aggressive which can unpredictable. Sheep prices are very volatile depending on the time of year. Sheep take much more care then cattle again depending on breed like shearing which is not profitable any more. Sheep only eat certain weeds goats eat many more kinds of weeds. If you live in Northern climates they will need more expensive shelter in winter months. I'm not a hater I have raised Sheep ,goats , cattle, pigs, chickens and horses. Just do your research before getting any animals so you are properly prepared to care for them
@debbyengland7512

Something to watch out for, sheep can clear out all of your weeds, too well, destroying their main food source. Grass returns much easier than the weeds so be careful not to let them over graze a pasture

#6 market your sheep to the Muslim communities...we eat a lot of lamb and for 1 of our holidays it is how we honor the history of Ibrahim, alayhi salam, when he was commanded to slaughter his son and then Allah replaced the son with a lamb or ram. So Muslims look for fsrms who will accommodate them coming and purchasing and slaughtering their lambs. Lots of money to be made in a day for the right people. Also contact halal grocery stores to sell your lambs. Our friend weekly slaughters 40-50 lambs to sell to the local community in San Antonio. Happy farming !♡
