This is critical for the body of Christ to understand. There are so many people dealing with the bondage of thinking they are required to keep the Old Covenant laws like eating kosher, keeping the seventh day Shabbat, keeping the Torah feasts, and so on. The NT teaches that those traditions are permitted for followers of Jesus, but they are not required. So it’s important to understand the freedom we have in Christ, and why we cannot follow the Law of Moses and the Gospel of Jesus at the same time. We are forced to choose on so many issues. In this video we look at 5 of those issues.

@@johnjones8112 if you are saved by your obedience, how much obedience is "good enough"? Do you see where that line of thinking must take us? There is no assurance that you can ever be obedient enough. My point is that only God can justify us, making it "just as if we had never sinned" as many people like to think of it. That must be true both before a point in time when faith is given by God to us and after. For if God is truly sovereign, He must have the sole prerogative to save whom He will at His own choosing. If He is not sovereign, specifically over whether we accept His gracious offer, then we slip into a philosophical argument of Pelagian, who argued that we are only "sin-sick" and not "dead in our sins".

@@johnjones8112 I can say "Amen". We should repent (of sin) as a matter of sanctification. And yes, absolutely, sin is the transgression of Torah and any other commandments given by Messiah. But as for whether our disobedience has any effect on our justification, it cannot - it MUST not. Otherwise, we are all still dead in our sins without any justification and the sacrifice by Yeshua was ineffective for anyone.

great teaching. I was getting "sucked into the Hebraic Roots ideas by a Messianic Teacher. He used scriptures to support his opionions and they seem to make perfect sense. He presents very strong arguments for following the laws of Moses. I watched a video on Hebrews 9 by the Professor Solberg and clearly showed me that we don't need to follow the laws of Moses. This whole do we need to keep the law of Moses has been going on for 2000 plus years. I think this Hebraic Roots movement is a very strong delusion in the church today and is gaining speed and confusing many Christians. Thanks Professor Solberg for these teachings.

In my opinion, this is the best teaching you have done so far. It has systematically exposed the false teachings of this "movement" in a logical way. I know some will want to argue that with long drawn out essays that make no sense, then there are others who may have the veil finally lifted, so they can be set free from the spell they are under. May God help you! 🙏 A note to those who disagree with me and can't wait to comment with a thousand word response. Please listen to the video again as it would be a better use of your time. While Adventism has similarities to Hebrew Roots, it's absolutely not the same and is a flat out occult with their own false teacher with her own so called writings. I'm happy to hear you've left Adventism. However, I wish to encourage you to be very careful not to be deceived. Hebrew Roots too has drifted away from the truth, even to the point of denying the deity of the Messiah in some movements within Hebrew Roots. Personally, myself and those in the community I fellowship with refer to ourselves as Messianic solely because it mirrors much of what we believe. Messianic isn't part of the Hebrew Roots movements. However, when we describe ourselves, we simply say we are disciples of the Messiah, studying God's Word to know and live out God's Word just as it's written. If you'd like to learn more, an outstanding resource I would highly encourage you to check out is torahresource.com/ I have found Lex Meyers to be quit good also on his KZfaq channel. Shalom

My husband and I's best friends (a married couple) have fully embraced torah keeping. We were in the process of starting a new ministry together. It started with him just saying he wanted to eat biblically, observe the feasts and rest on Saturday. Him and his wife fought about it to the point of separation. My friend told me last week she 'has seen the light' and will start following the torah. She said she will hand over all the paperwork for our ministry. Its like a punch to the gut to have someone you are very close with (best of friends) tell you they can no longer be involved in ministry with you and don't know how to proceed as friends over this. They say we can't follow all of the torah and they're trying to 'figure out' which parts still apply to us today. When i ask questions and show them verse after verse they say they are still searching out the answers. Which tells me its something they've just decided is correct and will twist scripture to make it fit. The gospel is simple to understand. It doesn't take years of trying to figure it out. God doesn't want us confused! Thank you for the work you do. When i first heard about their beliefs, your videos really helped me to understand a lot. You really are doing the Lord's work. Great work Solberg, I think this might be the best one yet! An interesting verse in Acts 21 that made me stop and reconsider Torah observance was this: ‭‭Acts‬ ‭21:25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ [25] But concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written and decided that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.” This follows what James said to Paul about the accusations he was teaching Jews to forsake Moses. It's a clear juxtaposition, between the Jews and gentiles and what they are to observe. "they should observe no such thing". James is clearly saying that the gentiles don't need to observe the Torah like they had previously addressed in Acts 15.

For when the priesthood is changed the law is necessarily changed.” Come on! How can a man who can read with comprehension deny this passage of holy writ teaches a new and different law for new covenant new creations in Christ? And not only a new law, but an entirely new and better way to relate to God. I can explain because I was cursed to grow up in the home of a 1%er pioneer Adventist health evangelist. Adventist cultists use their health message as a lure to capture naive people who God loves. Paul uses the word “ bewitched.” The word means to be persuaded by false representations. Wilbur is deluded, confused, and bewitched. No amount of facts, excellent presentations, or Bible verses in context will convince him he’s wrong. Read Matthew 24: 19- 20 where jesus is teaching his disciples about the signs of the endtimes and his second coming and refers to the sabbath. Ask yourself why he brings the sabbath up during the endtimes if he didn't expect us o keep it once he died on the cross? The 10 commandments is the law of God and needs to be obeyed. The Sabbath was kept faithful until 341 AD when it was changed by the council of Leodocia. That is 300 years after Jesus had gone back to heaven. The laws of moses (603 laws) were the ones jesus nailed on the cross. There were 7 sabbath festivals that were 7 days long each which involved offering of animals sacrifices and drinking. Those sabbaths are the ones Paul is referring to in colossians 2:14- 17. There is a difference between the weekly sabbath ( tied to creation) which is part of the 10 commandments and the sabbaths (plural) which are the seven ceremonial ceremonies that took place throughout the year and each lasted for 7 consecutive days.

We can learn so much from the Torah, Psalms and the Prophets, but in the end Jesus told them in Luke 24:44 that they basically pointed to and confirmed Him as Messiah. So many wonderful pictures of Messiah in the Old Testament. But He in His loving kindness towards us has provided a new and better covenant. Shalom

The key to understanding the relationship between the Christian and the Law is knowing that the Old Testament law was given to the nation of Israel, not to Christians. Some of the laws were to reveal to the Israelites how to obey and please God (the Ten Commandments, for example). Some of the laws were to show the Israelites how to worship God and atone for sin (the sacrificial system). Some of the laws were intended to make the Israelites distinct from other nations (the food and clothing rules). None of the Old Testament law is binding on Christians today. When Jesus died on the cross, He put an end to the Old Testament law (Romans 10:4; Galatians 3:23-25; Ephesians 2:15). In place of the Old Testament law, Christians are under the law of Christ (Galatians 6:2), which is to “love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-39). If we obey those two commands, we will be fulfilling all that Christ requires of us: “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matthew 22:40). Now, this does not mean the Old Testament law is irrelevant today. Many of the commands in the Old Testament law fall into the categories of “loving God” and “loving your neighbor.” The Old Testament law can be a good guidepost for knowing how to love God and knowing what goes into loving your neighbor. At the same time, to say that the Old Testament law applies to Christians today is incorrect. The Old Testament law is a unit (James 2:10). Either all of it applies, or none of it applies. If Christ fulfilled some of it, such as the sacrificial system, He fulfilled all of it. “This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3). The Ten Commandments were essentially a summary of the entire Old Testament law. Nine of the Ten Commandments are clearly repeated in the New Testament (all except the command to observe the Sabbath day). Obviously, if we are loving God, we will not be worshiping false gods or bowing down before idols. If we are loving our neighbors, we will not be murdering them, lying to them, committing adultery against them, or coveting what belongs to them. The purpose of the Old Testament law is to convict people of our inability to keep the law and point us to our need for Jesus Christ as Savior (Romans 7:7-9; Galatians 3:24). The Old Testament law was never intended by God to be the universal law for all people for all of time. We are to love God and love our neighbors. If we obey those two commands faithfully, we will be upholding all that God requires of us.

@@adamguy33 I read your long post, and gave you a thumbs up. You made one small mistake that makes a big difference. The Law of Christ is to love as Christ loved. An infinitely higher standard than loving another as yourself. Humans don’t love themselves perfectly. It’s sacrificial love. If an act doesn’t cost you something it’s most likely not a choice for love. Love is a choice for the highest good. God has given his body of believers an impossible law to keep. Hebrew roots heretics lose their mind when you inform them it’s impossible to keep the Law of Christ. Their broken cultic minds are obsessed with laws. They think they are obeying God and pleasing God. God loathes pompous Pharisees. The obedience God looks for is obedience to the pure gospel message given to the apostles. Obedience by practicing faith in the complete and final atonement of Christ. Believing the gospel message is not advice; it’s a command. Hebrew roots heretics rebel against the gospel and practicing faith which makes a man justified and righteous. The wannabe Jews are self righteous Pharisees who have fallen from grace. They are not “ In Christ.”

One of the biggest theological mistakes I see Torahism make in this argument is that they equate the 100's years of the Hebrew captivity and its lack of a physical temple with today’s lack of a physical temple. They argue it’s happened before. They leave out and miss the fact that Jesus Messiah has now lived, sacrificed his blood and ascended into Heaven. The entirety of the law and prophets pointed to Jesus. Something monumental happened in Christian theology, a New and better Covenant. I also view the Temple from another point of view. The temple just wasn’t needed. In the New Covenant the Levitical priesthood has no authority from God. All authority is in Jesus our High Priest, in the order of Melchizedek. The destruction of the temple didn’t end the Levitical Priesthood, rather it was removed because the priests no longer had authority and the activities in and of the temple were no longer needed, much less required.

If it is not too much trouble, since your argument is indeed paramount if accurate, can you take the time to flesh out from Scripture exactly why you assert that the Levitical priesthood no longer has authority? I might ask that you focus on one idea in particular and that being: did the Levitical priesthood ever rectify the problem of sin? And if I seem to be misunderstanding why you say that, please offer me reasons that you have said it.

Incomplete hypothesis. It's the takkanot or 613 of the talmudic rabbis and the sacrificial system un necessary today. The Melkezedek part is correct but that is connected to the Royal Law or covenant agreed to prior to what was given and broken at Sinai. That's why the Aaronic line was given authority and why John the baptist relinquished at Yeshuas baptizm. Which returned complete authority to Messiah and restored His covenant made with Abraham , Isaac and Jacob. Otherwise the covenants of promise wouldn't be all over the new covenant scriptures. Walk as Yeshua walked. Paul and all the gentile assemblies he ministered to did including sabbath, high sabbath of feasts and dietary regs. So if what you claim is correct Paul never got the memo. You contradiction to work out. Good luck brother and be blessed.

@34:40 the topic of circumcision was spoken of as though it had something to do with justification, but Paul clearly explained in Galatians 5:4 that this was a matter of Judaizers trying to force circumcision upon believers in order to be justified. We all know that we are justified by faith. The major reason for Paul's writing to Galatians was to dispel the idea of being JUSTIFIED by any means other than faith. So once again, a strawman has been set up since Paul was not talking about sanctification through obedience.

Hi, Jana. Yes, I run into that belief a lot. And my typical response when our Hebrew Roots friends want to cast doubt on Paul is to ask if they are suggesting that Paul's writings should be removed from the Bible. Because if that's what they believe, they are putting themselves in a position of authority over Scripture. And if they only accept the things in the Bible that they like, and reject the things they don't, it's not the Bible they believe but themselves. On the other hand, if they _do_ accept Paul's writings as Scripture, then they need to accept the things Paul teaches as the true Word of God. Which means they've got a significant uphill battle if they want to claim that the Old Covenant laws are still in effect today! Blessings, Rob

I agree. Great teaching. If I may put forward my understanding on the matter of Christian traditions which have been handed down are unscriptual in that they do not conform to the true meaning of the apostle's teaching. Christendom is not the church. The church is the body of beluevers, the body of Christ. On the other hand, Christendom is the progeny of the Roman prostitute and still walks after her ways. The true church which is the body of Christ did not fight wars for the dominion, power and wealth of this world. Christendom did and still tries to do politically. Christendom belongs to Babylon, the great house of religion that was Babel/Babylon. Housing all the religions of the world. Christendom still holds captive his holy people, just as the type and shadow of Nebuchaddnezzar's Babylon held captive God's people Israel. I began to receive these revelations 20 years ago, to realise that Luther had similar teachings. Only Luther attributed Babylin, the harlot, solely to the Catholic Church. And, indeed, she is the mother. And her children have followed after her ways. From the false Roman church came all manner of pagan superstitions clothed in Christian attire. It is from her that came church buildings as temples, when believers are the temple of God in the NT. From her came alters, when the one sacrifice fir all time has already been made. From her came priests, when e ery believer is a priest before God, the veil having been ripped apart by Christ's atoning work on the cross, and believers boldly come into the most holy place before the throne of God. And the Catholic priests became Ministers/Reverend etc, in the Protestant church; we don't need ministers to serve in the tabernacle since we have our high priest Jesus. From Ministers/Reverend etc, came the modern day Pastor, who still ministers to the people. This is not at all the pattern set by the apostles, where the gifts to the body were to operate, ministering to one another, bringing firth from their gift as the Spirit led, for/to the building up of the body, the church, to the maturity of the fullness of Christ. I could say much, much, more. But I won't and I appreciate it if you have read this far. Cheers

I do very much disagree with your perspective here and think that much of your argument is kind of circular (in the way you often interpret Scripture based upon the conclusion you have come to and then use that interpretation to support your conclusion), but I'm not asking this to fight or trap you with some kind of perceived 'gotcha'.

Hey! Great video as always. I found the box explanation very helpful and I believe it is clear regarding the priesthood, temple, veil/sacrifices/circuncision. What about the decalog to be specific? I understand that some people like to devide the law in different parts (moral, cerimonial and civil). I can see your explanation being clear regarding the cerimonial and civil part. I don't see this division in the law being the understanding of the ancient jew and apostoles but how do I understand the Decalog in this video? Maybe the decalog is like the "first amendment" of the ancient israel constitution? In that case it is also not binding today and instead we have now the law of Jesus? Is that correct?

I figured I would elaborate more on occasionally sharing your videos with former Adventists etc. The basic gist is familiar to stuff is the same or similar, but there are some specific details that are important. As a Faith SDA is very sloppy on a lot of things, like Church history, the details of doctrine, having a coherent position on something. But they do nitpick the details on some things relating to the Old Testament law, rituals etc. This is because they believe that Christ is acting like a kind of Cohen/high priest in heaven right now, blotting out people's specific sins that are confessed but leaving the other ones that have not been confessed to be judged at the end of the World. (Called the Investigative Judgement). Anyway, some of the specific points you raise are helpful to folks that want to raise their game overall. It kind of reminds me of my favorite web site & KZfaq channel dealing with Seventh Day Adventism, called Answering Adventism that is very educational in general. That has been extremely useful for dealing with online Adventists but also given me some good gold nuggets for my other online theology writing and posting.

Seems like the biggest issue with this video is that you say that the viewer needs to choose between the new covenant and the old one. That doesn’t make much sense because we have to observe both, meaning there is only one covenant that Jesus taught and fulfilled to a completed form. So then if any “contradiction” appears after Jesus’ teachings in light of the New Testament the question is not which one do you choose but can the seeming “contradiction” be reconciled by letting the Bible interpret the Bible. I am not a Torah observer, I am in the middle trying to figure this things out about who is right and asking for the Holy Spirit to guide me in all truth but the arguments you raise are quite easily countered if you watch any of teachings of the people you are responding to such as David or 119 ministries. However, I will point out 2 interesting observations for the readers of this post. 1. 119 ministries is constantly flashing their Masonic handsymbols such as the upside down pyramid especially in their earlier videos. So even though their arguments seems extremely strong they are part of an agenda that is involved in some kind of deception. I just haven’t figured out what exactly yet. 2. The fact that you call yourself a professor and put your diploma in the background in some videos, wear a 3 pcs suit etc is also a tactic I see teachers like yourself use which means you are trying to leverage that “authority” against the viewer. Opposite of what 119 ministries does. Edit: just saw a video of you throwing the same Masonic hand symbols. Nicely tried but now we know both of you are on the same team. Only Elohim our ABBA Father knows which one of you is right but I suspect both of you are off.

Rob, I can explain it to you. The salvation by grace doesn't not make the law is not required. For example, if the judje forgive you your breaches of the law without reason, just because he loves you, that doesn't mean that he gives you a permanent permit to continue breacging the law or that he says no more law for everyone. No, he forgives you the penalty, but requires from you to continue keeping the law.

Paul termed the law of Moses "a law of righteousness" which was opposed to "the law of faithing" R9.31; Phil3.9. Paul also called the law of Moses "the law of failance and of death" R8.2. What does it mean when Jesus said I did not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it? I hear alot of preachers say that this means the law is still in affect, this typically comes up on the subject of tithing. TY for any info.

The entire Old Testament pointed toward Jesus. When he came to earth, He kept every law perfectly ( fulfilled it) because the Israelites never did and we can’t either. His death on the cross instituted the new, better covenant. The book of Hebrews explains it very well. The law was never for gentiles anyway….

Concerning sacrifices, the reason sacrifices needed too be repeated was because a blood sacrifice was needed to cleanse a person from their sin, to mitigate the sins that had been written on the tables of their heart (Jeremiah 17:1). God remembered sins by writing them on the tables of their heart, their account. Jesus' sacrifice did the same thing, but the difference was that the sacrifice did not need to be repeated because God would remember their sin no more. The account no longer needed to be cleansed because sins were no longer written there. It is the content (logōn) of the account (logon) that determines if we are justified or condemned. Justification is not the absence of sin but the presence of righteousness. The Greek words for righteousness and justify are almost identical. Branches that do not bear fruit are cut off. Those who were saved in the Old Testament did not need repeated sacrifices because they were taken out from under the law, for where there is no law, sins are no longer imputed (remembered in the account (Gr. logon). Romans 7:1 the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth. To get out from under the law, you need to die - baptism qualifies as a shadow of death. Joseph was saved when his brothers slew the kid and dipped his coat in the blood. Then they threw him into the pit - his shadow of death. And God was with him. No further sacrifices were needed for Joseph. Jesus' sacrifice was better because it could be applied once for all people. By being born into the kingdom of God, with Jesus as your Father, you join the house of Judah. A sacrifice was never applied to future sin. His sacrifice for us is sufficient because sins arer remembered no more. Under the New Covenant, we are under grace, not the law. We are still held accountable under grace. The New Covenant is the ministry of life, where the ministry of Moses was the ministry of death 2 Corinthians 3. Under the law of Moses, there are no entries of righteousness in our account for obedience, only entries for violations. Look at the last five of the Ten Commandments to understand what it means to love your neighbor to the full extent of the law. I won't kill you, I won't commit adultery with or against you, I won't steal from you, I won't bear false witness against you, and I won't covent anything you have. There, I have loved you to the full extent of the law and I intend to keep it that way. Don't you feel cherished? Of course not. If I were to violate any, however, I would get dinged. The law of the Spirit of life is the New Commandment, where I love you as he has loved me, in the power of the Spirit. The law of Moses included everything but the Spirit: all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, all your strength, all you, no Spirit. All you and no Spirit is separation from God: death. You with the Spirit is union with God: life. You do not need to be baptized to be saved, but you do need to die to get out from under the law. I highly recommend baptism over the approach the thief on the cross took. And here is how you can tell if you are really interested in the truth: while you were reading this, were you looking for rebuttals? Or were you seeking to understand? Looking for rebuttals is like pouring new wine into old wineskins. grace-4-grace.com

Is the olah korban a burnt offering? Or is it an ascent approach? Do we not still desire to ascend properly - through Christ? We have understanding that ancient Israel did not - mainly that the objects of their worship were pointing to Messiah. It would have been a mystery to them why they did what they did. However, Yeshua came to fulfill Torah and He did so in many ways such as His sermon on the mount where He clarified (fulfilled) the intent of the instructions about things like adultery and murder. Torah will stand until heaven and earth pass away. Not all commands are for everyone and some commands cannot be done properly today. However, when they can, they will be relevant once again and we should be prepared to carry them out. We shamar (poorly translated as "obey" or "keep" because it means "guard") Torah rather than dismissing it. We asah (obey) however we can and that is not for justification but for sanctification.

But a physical temple wasn't required. They did sacrifices upon return from Babylon without even a foundation to the temple. They only needed an altar, as told in Ezra. They apparently didn't even need the ark of the covenant to sprinkle blood and incense on, as required by the law. So, hole in the reasoning. David still doesnt know anything, but the argument has a shortcoming. Also, the drean within a dream is not possible how inception depicts. But among lucid dreamers it is called a false awakening.

The idea is that Israel was supposed to be a light to the Nations but because of the rebellious heart the Levites had to be a light to Israel and so thus the Levites had cities amongst the Israelites

Which is 'crazier', thinking that from eternity past YHWH has required obedience to righteousness for access to His Kingdom, but now you just have to give a 'head nod' to His Son and your good to go? What did satan transgress but the Heavenly Torah (Instructions). Messiah Yahshua showed that physical sin is just an outward enactment of that which is in your heart, where the actual evil begins (Isa 14:13, Matt 5:28). His covenant is to have His Way of Truth in Life written on your heart, causing you to walk in His Way: Deut 10 (prophetic shadow) Jerimiah 31:31-34 Ezekiel 36:26-28 Hebrews 8:8 There are other references which are not as explicit, but do refer to the circumcision not made by hands: Jer 4:4, Deut 30:6, Jer 9:26, Jer 44:7, Acts 7:51, Heb 8:10, and more. Having the Torah written on your heart is synonymous with a heart of flesh vs of stone, or circumcision done without hands. It is to have the ferverant desire to serve the will of YHWH, wich is to live righteously, which is defined and exampled in the Torah/Tanakh and finally fully preached (pleroo/fulfilled) by our Anointed King Yahshua, and His apostles. Why are there so many denominational sects within the religion of christianity? Because it is built upon the stiff neck and hard hearts of man. It has filled aspects of our world with lies, half truths (at best) and wickedness (mixing the Way of YHWH with the ways of the world). YHWH is making manifest these lies and those whom He is calling out of the world will recognize whom it is that has reigned and made these lies to flourish, and will no longer be decieved. There is no scriptural path to the multitude of erroneous teachings of Ephraim (christianity) and Judah (rabbinic judaism), they are cut off before even getting started. What we hear from those who live as part of the world, are the mantras formed from the doctrines and traditions of religion, and thus mankind. The same who from the beginning have twisted the Word (spoken, written and in the flesh) of YHWH into that which fits their hard hearts. Having already set forth judgment upon Messengers (angels), individuals, clans, cities and the world, all by His Echad (One) set of weights and measures, how then can He begin to judge by a 'lighter' set of weights and measures? That is NOT who He has declared Himself to be. Some religions teach that there are no longer any 'weights and measures'. They do not know our Father in Heaven, and He does not know those who work lawlessness (Matt 7:23, et al). There is no way around the FACT that guarding the Torah Way of life *IS* THE Marriage Covenant agreement. In summary, ALL which YHWH has said, we will do (Deut 19:8, Jer 42:20). Even The Messiah King Yahshua explicitly states that He cannot do ANYTHING of Himself, only that which the Everlasting, Unchanging, Perfect, Merciful Father has given Him to do (John 5:17-19, John 7:14-17). The Messiah Himself tells us to observe and do (hear and obey - Sh'mah) Moses (Torah), but, do NOT do the man made 'rabbinic statutes', because Judah (like Ephraim) puts their own way above The Way. Matt 23:1 Then spake Yahushua to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. observe/heed: G5083 τηρέω tēreō tay-reh'-o From τηρός teros (a watch; perhaps akin to G2334); to guard (from loss or injury properly by keeping the eye upon; and thus differing from G5442 which is properly to prevent escaping; and from G2892 which implies a fortress or full military lines of apparatus) that is to note (a prophecy; figuratively to fulfil a command); by implication to detain (in custody; figuratively to maintain); by extension to withhold (for personal ends; figuratively to keep unmarried): - hold fast keep (-er) (ob- pre- re) serve watch. practice/observe/do: G4160 poy-eh'-o Apparently a prolonged form of an obsolete primary; to make or do (in a very wide application more or less direct): - abide + agree appoint × avenge + band together be bear + bewray bring (forth) cast out cause commit + content continue deal + without any delay (would) do (-ing) execute exercise fulfil gain give have hold × journeying keep + lay wait + lighten the ship make × mean + none of these things move me observe ordain perform provide + have purged purpose put + raising up × secure shew × shoot out spend take tarry + transgress the law work yield. Compare G4238. H8085 שמע shaw-mah' A primitive root; to hear intelligently (often with implication of attention obedience etc.; causatively to tell etc.): - × attentively call (gather) together × carefully × certainly consent consider be content declare × diligently discern give ear (cause to let make to) hear (-ken tell) × indeed listen make (a) noise (be) obedient obey perceive (make a) proclaim (-ation) publish regard report shew (forth) (make a) sound × surely tell understand whosoever [heareth] witness. It could only be the list of charges against us to be nailed to the stake, not the eternal means of judgement and blessings for those who strive to gaurd His commandments. No one can earn that which was set forth to occur, to the very day and hour, and given freely to set the balances equal, paying the price for the mercy given to ALL creation. His atonement can be applied for those who are in covenant with Him, which is to abide (the best we understand) in His Word, guarding the Torah instructions for a set apart life, and be witness of The Son who carries the authority given Him by the Father, to execute ALL judgement in the Earth. Think not that He came to create a 'participation trophy' covenant for the nations, so that you can walk in evil ways (that which is counter to YHWH), no, He made a path that allows us to walk in The Torah without condemnation. For if you have received the Spirit of Truth, you will T'shuvah (be convicted, repent, turn from evil and towards YHWH). This will be the continous cycle until you die or the First Fruits Resurrection occurs. Prov 11:1 A false balance is abomination to יהוה: but a just weight is his delight. Prov 16:11 A just weight and balance are יהוה's: all the weights of the bag are his work. 20:10 Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to יהוה. 20:23 Divers weights are an abomination unto יהוה; and a false balance is not good. Lev 19:35 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. 36 Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am יהוה your Elohim, which brought you out of the land of Egypt. 37 Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am יהוה. Deut 25:13 Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small. 14 Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small. 15 But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which יהוה thy Elohim giveth thee. 16 For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto יהוה thy Elohim. Ezek 45:9 Thus saith the Sovereign יהוה; Let it suffice you, O princes of Israel: remove violence and spoil, and execute judgment and justice, take away your exactions from my people, saith the Sovereign יהוה. 10 Ye shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath. Amos 8:4 Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail, 5 Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit? 6 That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat? Micah 6:10 Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable? 11 Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

There is a straw man that gets set up in that the argument about justification rather than sanctification. If sanctification leaves one iota or scintilla of room for changing the state of our justification, then there is no need whatsoever for the sacrifice of Christ. We can (or rather cannot) justify ourselves by our actions. With that said, an objector to the idea of obedience to Torah (or any other list of commands by God) nullifies the concept of grace by faith alone and slips into the philosophical argument of Pelagian, who claimed that we are only "sick in sin" instead of "dead in sin". It comes down to the age old argument of free will, specifically to choose to be justified - even the matter of choosing to accept His gracious offer of justification. We must never mix the concepts of justification and sanctification. Otherwise, we will see obedience (to Torah or the two greatest commandments from Torah, if you like) as required for justification and thereby nullify the need for a Savior.

In Deuteronomy 18:5, what is the meaning of the word 'always'? Is this to be taken literally? If not, then how could the translation be made more clear while remaining within the confines of the original Hebrew and/or Greek? In other words, at what point does always become not always, and how?

In Biblical usage of the word “forever,” we see that the context and application MAY be for something that will come to an end. God said of the Temple that Solomon built, “‘For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually'” (2 Chronicles 7:16). However, because of the sins of Israel and then Judah, God caused this Temple to be destroyed! (Compare 2 Chronicles 36:15-21). When studying the concept of “forever” in context, we see a variety of intended meanings. The word can express a never-ending condition or situation, but it can also refer to a certain limited period of time, based on the life of the parties involved and also dependent on relevant conditions.

The Greek equivalent of ’olam is aiōn, which has a similar range of meanings. Its basic meaning is age in the sense of eon. The New Testament seems to employ aiōn, and its cognate adjectival form aiōnios, in the sense of ‘forever’ and ‘eternal,’ respectively. That is, it nearly always has the sense of infinite time, rather than more limited senses, such as ‘for the rest of one’s life’ or ‘indefinitely long [but not infinite] period of time.’ See especially the occurrences of ‘eternal’ and ‘forever’ in the Johannine literature, such as John 3:15-16; John 4:14; John 12:34; 1 John 5:11,13,20; and Rev. 11:15.

How long is forever? Forever’s contexts How long is forever? The meaning of the term depends on the context in which it occurs. Our culture, however, plays so fast and loose with this word that it becomes difficult to define what it means. Sometimes it can mean a time period stretching indefinitely into the future, as when an explorer makes a treaty with the native people, promising, “We will share this land with you forever.” In other contexts, characterized by unexpected and unwelcome waiting, ‘forever’ has a subjective connotation that the wait will be endless. And sometimes, we are little surprised to find a distinct difference between what the speaker intends by ‘forever’ and what the listener perceives as its meaning. Hebrew word for ‘forever’ The Hebrew word for ‘forever’ is ‘olam. The Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew lexicon (761-763) offers 13 definitions, and 14 sub-definitions. In a context of past time, its basic meaning is ancient (e.g., Ezekiel 25:15; and Ezekiel 35:5). Meaning 1: for a lifetime When referring to the future, however, it sometimes means ‘for the rest of [one’s] life,’ as in the last verse of the famous “Shepherd’s Psalm” (Psalm 23:6), which displays parallelism between “all the days of my life” and “forever.” In Deuteronomy 15:17, a person agrees to be a slave “forever” (that is, for life). In Psalm 89:1, the psalmist’s expresses his desire to sing to the Lord “forever” (i.e., for the rest of his life). In 1 Samuel 1:22, Hannah tells her husband that their son will live at the tabernacle “forever.” From a limited perspective, ‘forever’ would mean as long as life endures. In Jeremiah 20:17, the prophet wishes he had died in the womb, his mother always pregnant. Even in passages in which the phrase ‘now and forever’ occurs (e.g., Psalm 115:18; 121:8; 125:2; 131:3), the meaning might be ‘from now on’ (i.e., for the rest of our lives). Meaning 2: its length is condition-dependent When God makes a “forever” covenant with Israel, promising, for instance, that the Temple will bear His Name “forever” (1 Kings 9:3; 2 Chronicles 7:16), we must understand such promises in the light of stated conditions (see Deuteronomy 28-29 and Leviticus 26) and the historical destruction of Solomon’s Temple in 586 B.C.E. As John T Willis (“Mediating,” 42-43) points out, even when in Genesis 13:15, God specifically promises Abraham that He will give the land to him and his offspring “forever” (Heb. ‘olam), we need not demand that the promise is unconditional. The promise is recorded in Joshua 21:43-45 as reaching a complete fulfillment, though Israel lost the land to the Assyrians and Babylonians (in 721 and 586 B.C.E., respectively). Willis (46-47) states that the term ‘olam usually means an indefinitely long period, as is clear in its use, for example, in Exodus 21:6 and 1 Samuel 1:22. Only rarely, as in Psalm 90:2, does it mean “endless time,” the distinction being dependent on the context. In the case of Jeremiah’s prophecy that Levitical priests will never fail serve the Lord, God says: If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time, then my covenant with David my servant-and my covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before me-can be broken and David will no longer have a descendent to reign on his throne. I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore (Jeremiah 33:20-22). It would seem that if ever we could find support for an unconditional promise, we would have it in this passage. Yet Hebrews 7:11-19 establishes that Christ’s appointment as high priest after the order of Melchizedek has replaced the Levitical priesthood, signaling also a change of covenants. Meaning 3: timeless and unconditional In other passages, however, ’olam seems to have the meaning of unending time, as in Psalm 89:28: I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail. I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure. Definitely in passages like Psalm 90:2, ’olam has the meaning we usually attribute to the literal meaning of the term ‘forever.’ It contemplates to eternities: one stretching out infinitely into the past the other unendingly into the future. (See also Psalm 103:17; 1 Chronicles 16:36; Psalm 106:48; Nehemiah 9:5; 1 Chronicles 29:10; and Psalm 41:13.)

@@SojournerFlour no problem, this helps me learn to. I love the bible, as chuck missler said "66 books written by 40 different authors over a span of 1500 years we have come to find out it is an integrated message system beyond our time domain" i think some of the problems people have today is believeing that the old covenant and the new covenant are one in the same, which they are not. But that fact is they are completely different. The Gospel is good news and the Lord wants us to be moral creatures and live justly. The Lord is our rightousness though and our faith in Him makes us right with God. following some systematic old Testament rules that are no longer binding to us christians do not make us anymore rightous before the Lord. So when studying the old Testament we have to understand its a relationship between ancient Israel and God and not between new covenant christians and God. Same God different set of rules , we live by faith in the finished work of JESUS on the cross, we rely on His rest that He gives us as being our perpetual sabbath rest. His sacrafice as our once and for all sacrafice. I recommend an intense study of Romans, Galatians, and Ephesians to understand the gospel properly as to where we stand and how old Testament does not apply to us today

I’ve been thinking about this since watching the first iteration of this teaching. I’ve by no means worked it all out or done nearly enough research to settle on it, so it’s just a thought. Between God saying to all of Israel that he is going to make them a kingdom of priests in Exodus 19 and then Moses sprinkling the blood of a sacrifice over the people in Exodus 24, there are list of instruction for the people to which they say, “All the Words… we shall do.” Then while Moses is on the mountain God gives him the plans for the tabernacle and all of the other set apart items with it in Exodus 25 through 31. He also then sets apart Aaron and his sons to serve in the tabernacle but not the entire tribe of Levi. That comes next. In Exodus 32 we are told the story of the golden calf. Here is where the tribe of Levi distinguishes itself by staying on the side of Moses and God by killing anyone who worshiped the calf (about 3,000 men). Then verse 29 says that “today you (the tribe of Levi) are ordained.” This seems to be a change in God’s original covenant with all of Israel and due to the sin of the golden calf. He even originally seems to say to build altars and make sacrifices “in EVERY PLACE I cause my name to be remembered” (20:24) but later sacrifices can only be made in “THE PLACE” He chooses (Duet 12:13 and 14). I wonder then if the new (which can also be read as renewed) covenant is a return (through the blood of Christ) to the original plan before the tribe of Levi was set apart from the rest of Israel. Now all of His children can be a nation of priests again, and our prayers and worship can be ascending offerings in any place His Name is remembered. Again, I hope you don’t take my thoughts as debating or arguing your points. As I’ve said before I am still trying to work all of this out for myself and I do have my own beliefs. I watch your videos to challenge myself, not to challenge you. I appreciate the feedback you have given previously but if it feels like I am attacking or challenging you, I’ll refrain from sharing my thoughts in the future. -rob
