Today we’re talking 5 ways that I’m NOT a minimalist, and generally defy the traditional stereotypes of minimalism. Hopefully this provides a glimpse on how minimalism is individual and how a life can look different from person to person.

Perhaps the term 'Intentionalist' is better than 'minimalist' and even better, maybe, is no label at all, just to live a life that brings joy. 😀

This is a challenge I’ve been debating in my life. I love my books but at the same time they sometimes give me the feeling I’ll get buried by them. I don’t like the feeling that my book can be removed if it’s on an eReader. Its the same reason I still own DVDs and CDs. They don’t vanish if someone gets a whim.

I’m not a minimalist either but celebrate a life of minimalism as a mindset / way of thinking and approaching life. I love colorful, vibrant colors, and odd whimsical delights and little treasures, stationary and feather quills! Minimalism is definitely a misconception to having a slow living lifestyle :)

It is, getting rid of those actually allows you to make space and time for the things that really matter. If you enjoy reading physical books or keeping a collection of items you truly appreciate and/or use, then by all means, keep them.

I love this video :,)) I am a paper hoarder too- I have so many sketchbooks, journals, and books. My mom donated most of my books a few years ago and kept only classics and ones we both really loved, but it gave me the opportunity to restart and collect books on topics I really enjoy because it would have been hard for me to get rid of all those books before lol. Now my collection is full of outdoors guide/reference books and books like Wild by Cheryl Strayed (ones that inspire me). I take advantage of the ebook service provided by my library and borrow books from family a lot, but I only bring in specific ones. A life outdoors is what’s really important to me so I love being absorbed by it!

Nice to see this. I love my books and my mum and I both play board games. We play Yahtzee a Lot! It’s good to have a vid like this which talks about what the true intention of minimalism is. It’s about a lifestyle, not a fad to create an image which makes you more unhappy in the end. My thing is kitchenware. I like cooking and so I have quite a lot of kitchenware. One of my fav things to do is to make a bunch of dishes in a big meal, usually Japanese or Indian or Mexican, and sit down and eat. I like to make 3-4 little dishes and have them all laid out.

I absolutely loved this! I think the areas I tend to be least minimal in are books. I have quite a few handfuls of series of books that I keep because I love going back and rereading them. And then I have just a few individual books that have changed my life and even if I don't ever reread them I also loan them out to my friends to borrow, so they can share those life changing expierences. And I completely agree that reading is a sensory thing as well!

Love this video! My list would be the exact same actually except replace books with crafting supplies. Holy cow I have a hoard of clays, paints, canvases, jewelry findings, etc. I'm an Etsy seller so it's definitely necessary but even before I started Etsy I felt like crafting and minimalism didn't really go together and that's okay. Totally agree with everything in this video! Though I am far from a minimalist, I have stopped consuming most things and have become much more intentional about what I purchase. I plan to use up the many things that I have and from there only repurchase one or two quality items from each category if anything. These 5 things however, I highly doubt I'll ever be "minimal" about. Physical books and many mugs of tea for the win!!! 🥰🥰 (gorgeous nail polish colour btw Ashlynne 🤩)

I call myself a "#Minimalist in progress". Most ppl don't see it that way. I used to be a #maximalist but I cut back on so much! I got rid of so much stuff that I don't use! I'm more mindful of my shopping habits and spending. Im still learning and working on it. I tried to 'capsule' my wardrobe. I like both colours and neturals but everything I have I love to wear. The best thing about cutting down and minimalism is I know what I have! 😁 I used to have too many of the same things! It helps me stay focused on what is more important in life and to be more intentional!
@floofrules

I feel that you're still a minimalist in the way you get rid of clutters and adopt the little good habits to create space and make time for the things that matter and add value to your life. And I like the fact that you don't sacrifice what brings you joy and energy for the sake of fitting in the stereotypical minimalist lifestyle, it's inspiring and can actually motivate your viewers to be more intentional with how they think, what they do, and why they own what they own. I personally am not a big fan of physical books and collections of whatever there is to collect, but I totally understand and appreciate how other people treasure their books and all that good stuffs (and when they make the extra effort to organise these items, WOW, LOVE IT, imagine being passionate enough to have a collection and keeping them organised, I could never)

One area I’ve really struggled to declutter is my pet supplies! I have 4 deep drawers and 2 shelves full of food, treats and spare ropes, hammocks and toys for my rats. The cages themselves are large and also take up a large proportion of my living room. However, my rats bring me so much joy, so as long as I can keep their supplies tidy I don’t mind the volume of “things” I need to acquire for them. And by decluttering in other areas (especially books and DVDs), I’ve been able to clear plenty of space to store their things neatly and tidily 🥰

Socks. Long socks, boot socks, rugby socks, trainer socks, heat holder socks... list goes on. As a farmer, horse rider, runner and notorious lover of a good pair of soft, cosy socks, it's so worth it. I've even got a dedicated sock drawer organised in sections of different sock 👌

Thank you for this, now I know I'm on the right minimalist journey. Trying to get my husband involved too. (How do you separate a carpenter from his tools? Lol). My Kryptonite is clothes but I have gotten rid of a lot. Will take another couple of years to get smaller. Also makeup, using up what I have. And my Harry Potter room? Has also been declutter and now also has a stepper in it. Multi use room.

I'm not minimal with Lush bath/hair/shower product (I have a narrow dresser full but i use the products and spend a lot less now), Art- definitely held onto and enjoy books and things from the MET, Jigsaw puzzles- we enjoy putting them together, Children- I have 7 and they bring me joy so I keep them lol ;). Everything else I have let go of about 75-80%.

Another thing to keep in mind is that sometimes the minimalist "look" is a luxury. This dawned on me when I was admiring a particular minimalist kitchen the same dimensions as mine but a world apart. Then I realised she had a bigger house so her stuff was just spread out more. My kitchen also serves as dining room, laundry room, sewing room, utility room, pantry and office. She had separate rooms for these things.

Nothing wrong with having things in your life that brings you joy. In my life we are not minimalst with Plants Board games Books DVDs Media Video games Sheet music- I play around on my flute and my husband plays the piano a bit. We are not professionally trained, lol We love to sing and with us being in the ministry it's nice to have sheet music and a variety of hymnals. To be honest outside of the plants the other items mostly belong to my husband and children. I dont mind, we make it work and things are organized for the most part and we only keep what we love and use. We live in a really rural area and we are debt free so having the things listed above is nice.. A family of 4. I have 2 older teens and my family is not minimal with their things, however overall, we are a family that keeps thing orderly and minimal.
