I have too agree 100% with your 5 reasons to grow a Lemon tree. I am in SoCal and we have a Lisbon Lemon variety in our yard. This tree is at least 60 years old and is large and as healthy as any tree half its age. We can harvest a 5 gal bucket every 2 or 3 days just by giving the branches a good shake, if ripe, the lemons just fall right off. We have many neighbors who come by for a bag full on a weekly schedule. We squeeze a lemon, add some dill pickle juice with V-8 tomato juice as a refreshing tonic.

Funny that you talk about fruit trees, I have an orange tree in a large pot, it’s as old as me at 50 years old and is a good size, but it has never fruited, it was probably grown from seed , I’ve often thought about grafting onto it with pieces of a known fruiting orange tree, but as yet I haven’t. Now it’s on my list . Oh by the way my wife hates the tree lol, I’ve owned it since 1995 so 25 years, half my life... I live in southern Ontario Canada, so it lives outside during the summer months and inside during the winter months cheers Rob

He's not kidding about the perfume when a lemon tree flowers. Mine flowered in spring and you could smell it any time you stepped out. It still has lemons from that fruiting and it's flowering again, though not at prodigiously as in the spring. The little green new fruit can be seen growing up next to some of the old and withered (but still edible) old fruit.
@dariusw1776
@dariusw1776 2 жыл бұрын
That smell is the best. Have mine indoors and they are pretty small plants. But if the first flowers start appearing, you can smell it all over the house. Also, if you harvested too much at some point, you can squeeze the lemons and freeze the juice as little cubes. Makes for an easy way of measuring how much lemon you want for cooking, so there is some use to it. Certainly not nearly as good as fresh juice though.

One thing to remember, if you're growing citrus in a more temperate climate: Check for root rot regularly, plant them in half sand, half potting mix, and keep more to the dry side. Don't regularly water just because your other trees also require water at the time. Another trouble for temperate citrus growers: Citrus do not like to be either the entire year inside the house. They are not tropicals, they do need a rest season (cooler weather), but preferably get some light. This sadly means that both inside of the house (too warm for a resting season, temperatures too constant) as well as most garages (cooler, but generally very low light) aren't really great. Some options that can work overwintering citrus in colder climates: un-/low- heated sunroom or garage and supplemented with grow lights on sometimes.

@Grace Asher try ginger in your food it helps a lot
@MrReedTea
@MrReedTea 4 жыл бұрын
@Grace Asher I'm telling you this is all because of your diet, you need to start trying other diets. Try eating just fruit and vegetables for a day. I bet even cooked foods like lentils and quinoa would be okay but do not eat any meat or dairy or any weird processed food (even bread or pasta) I bet you will have no acid reflux. It may take you a few days though because it sounds like you have a pretty intense case. Acid reflux is a detox system your body is attempting to detox whatever you ate. and It might take you like 3 days on a new diet to fully detox and stop having acid reflux. The medication you're taking was designed to make profit they don't want you to know you can just change your diet, ditch the meds, and start trying out a new plant-based diet. It might be daunting for you to begin with so just dabble with it here and there you will simply just start to feel better and better and when you stray from the diet will likely be hit with acid reflux and feel all-around worse this will incentivize you to commit to the diet.

Big Wrath, we do this juice routine in the morning as well. The reason it works is that the acidity of the lemon juice triggers your body to adjust the digestive balance in your stomach to more alkalinity.
@khm2128

@Grace Asher , at our house... we usually use capsules of betaine hcl: one or two before eating - it helps normalize stomach acid. Before I learned about this from my daughter, I would put about a quarter teaspoon (pretty much a speck or two) in a small glass of water and sip it until my reflux settled. That's what I learned from my Grandmother.

I've been growing a container dwarf Meyer Lemon for about 10 years now. It's absolutely wonderful. I've added a dwarf Mexican lime this year which has just dropped it's petals and is full of tiny limelettes, as I call them, getting bigger every day. Citrus is a real joy to grow! I was told that citrus liked pine needles, so every year after we take down the Christmas tree, we sweep up the needles and put them in the soil. Seems to work well!

A kumquat tree is a great ornamental. Pierce the whole, unpeeled fruit all over with a sewing needle and bung a bunch of them in a sterilised jar. Fill the jar with a decent brandy and leave the sealed jar in a dark place for a while. Cheap, home-made Grand Marnier! The Russians swear by lemons. Look up general tonics of lemon and garlic. Quarter a couple of kilos of lemons and add forty cut cloves of garlic. Boil until the lemon goes soft, blend and strain. A glass of that a day and you'll never get a cold again- apparently!

Soooo so informative, thank you Marc! Notes: use 40-50cm pot, bigger the container, the better for more root system = more ability to hold fruit = more value Line base with thick mulch Use premium potting mix Add compost twice a year, rich manure Eg decomposed cow manure to fertilse Add citrus fertilser with trace elements regularly for a healthy plant, gives energy to produce fruit. Water regularly because pots dry out faster than in ground. Dehydrated plant=stressed plant.

They are so useful and hardy. I use lemons all the time from drinks to cooking, citrus like lemon and limes really elevate food too. My lemon tree isn't in a pot and is well established but it thrives through winter with frost's often and temps sometimes down to -5C with no frost cloth around it.

I usually avoid fruit and stick to growing veg, but this week I purchased a couple of blueberry bushes, I usually purchase a pack a week and have them with my porridge, but I'm so glad I decided to buy them, they already look brilliant and producing fruit for me.

You forgot to give the flower smell a "point" all its own! #6 THE WAY THE FLOWERS SMELL!!! Which is AMAAAAAZING!!! When my lemon, or orange tree is flowering, I place a chair under it so I can just sit there breathing in that heavenly scent!!!🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋🍊🍋

Love our Meyer Lemon tree, it’s compact, pretty, about 20 years old and flowers and fruits all year around 😍 The chickens love it too - they enjoy sitting up in its branches, which is fine by us - they are fertilising it directly 😀

Just bought an eureka lemon! Super excited. I've had a satsuma in a pot for about 5 years now. Just have to have a well drained potting mix. Since they're not cold hardy here, it's a little more difficult in the winter. Ours lives in the garage by a window when it's below freezing.

I always wondered if I could grow ANY fruit trees in my climate, (Pennsylvania, US.) We get a LOT of snow here in the winters, and I just love lemons and oranges! I think now, I'm going to try and grow them in containers, and see if I can get something to grow! Thank you so much for all your informative Video's. . I have learned so much from this channel!

Invested in a dwarf meyer to use for cuttings. So the new trees will be full size instead of dwarfs. I love watching them progress by the week. Also i love eating raw lemons.
