Got an EQT staged tune and ran stock for a couple of weeks to see how it drives. EQT did a good job with the control of the torque throttle without a tcu tune and my car drove like stock, but with more power. When I finally installed the EQT DSG tune, it was like driving a totally new car. Shifts were on point and the power of the car just felt more readily available. Highly recommend a tcu/dsg tune if you have an ecu tune.

Thank you! Good straight forward info without any pre crap like so many tend to do. Had an APR tune done but feel on launch taking a little time to get going. A TCU tune will bring it to life more. 👍 It is costly for an APR tcu tune, though. But I only need to do it ones. After all, it is pushing 370 hp.

Savage Panda Projects yea the difference is massive, especially for daily driving, before it would hold on the revs and shift so late, now it shifts a lot earlier. But the downside is there’s a lot less backfire so no farting haha

Thanks for the informative video! If you can answer this I'd be grateful. If I would upgrade Audi TT Mk.3 2.0 TFSI quattro from stock 230 hp to 300 hp / 400+ nm, do you think the DSG could safely take the increased torque in long term? It is hard to find correct information about the absolute max torque of the DQ250 transmission.

Have you seen any increased wear on your dsg with a dsg tune? Or should any increased wear be expected? If so do you think shorter service intervals for the trans fluid and filter would help? Great video though!!

No issues at all. If you are planning on running hi torque files the dsg tune is highly recommended. I use the liquimoly oils for the DSG great stuff

What max launch rpm did you select? I'm debating between 3,500 or 4,000 rpms. Did you have the automatic upshift disabled in manual mode?

Whats up Dom! Mine is set to a max of 4K If i recall correctly. Ive also got the kickdown feature disabled. As for auto upshift I did not disable it.

Thanks for the video, I’m a bit late obviously 😁. I had a few concerns about getting the DSG tune. Firstly the cost, I have a stage 1 APR tune and in the UK at least, their TCU tune is priced about 50% higher than every other reputable software company. 2nd, the gearbox as standard i find has great drivability, I have no issues with it, as i understand a TCU tune will allow for higher revs, which would surely put more stress on the box, not less…maybe? And 3, I’ve heard the TCU tune will map out the DSG farts, not exactly important I know, but I’ll miss them if they’re gone. I really don’t see myself using launch too often (I’m in a FWD Scirocco R), and because of the above, I’ve never pulled the trigger on the tune. If you had any comments on those last 2 points, I’d really appreciate it, as i may change my mind when Black Friday rolls around and they offer a discount. Thank you 🙏

Thanks for checking out the video. I appreciate your questions, really the main thing is you want the transmission to be consistent with the increased power you're getting out of the ECU tune. Otherwise the DSG really cant keep up. As far as the exhaust noise on upshifts I have heard people say that but they always seem to be present. Also more or less noticeable depending on your exhaust setup.

I know it's a requirement with stage 1 high tourqe tune and probably better for the clutch life but is there a difference in the feel of manual mode with the dsg tune? Or does it only change the feel by making sport and drive mode usable again? I drive a stage 1 high touqe tune (IE) without the stage 1 dsg tune and only drive it in manual mode since the shift points aren't remapped. I don't feel any slip (that I can notice in a tiptronic) but would invest in a dsg tune if it makes the manual mode feel even crazier.

Understandable, I would always still advise matching the proper ECU and TCU tunes when possible. Better shift points, increase clamping pressure, much improved launch control. Otherwise without it the Trans doesn't know how to compensate for thr extra 100ft lbs of torque the engine is making. I hope that helps.

I have a Skoda Superb 2011 2.0TDI 170CR with DSG. What does the faster shift time actually do(mechanically)? Can it destroy the gearbox in the long run? Also is it possible to have a hardcut for the car?

Not as long as the tune is within the DSG’s torque limits. The reason for a faster shift time is because the clamp pressure is increased, increasing the torque limit at the same time, allowing for a quick grab’n-go of the clutch pack. Supposedly the wear and tear also decreases but i have yet to find proof about that last bit.

Do you think the TCU tune is worth it if you're not tuned? I have a Mk6 GTI with the DSG and I've been contemplating getting a TCU tune before I go for more power mainly to improve the car's drivability. I find myself putting it in manual mode all the time just so the car shifts when I want it too and doesn't go to 6th at 35mph. I kinda just want to be able to throw it in drive sometimes and have a more enjoyable experience than feeling like I have to tell he car when to shift if I'm just puttering around town.

Yes I would say TCU is definitely worth it. Even if you're not pushing bigger power the drivability of the car is much better with the TCU software. The transmission is much more responsive and feels less confused when driving around in traffic/parking lots etc.

Yeah the top 5 for $500 is a great starting point. I'd say ECU and TCU software are gonna be your best upgrades for overall power gains and drivability. Grab a downpipe + stage 2 have some fun 😀

A little off topic but what's your opinion on haldex problems with the 15s - 16s? (and did you experience any?) I'm set on getting one in about a year or so but all these haldex problems are concerning

Can't say I've had any issues. Changed my fluid at 30k miles. I have heard of the haldex pumps going bad on 15-16 models.

When you get the haldex oil changed get them to pop the pump out (2 bolts) and clean the gauze/filter as it gets gunked up. That's where the fails come from.

Just flashed my b8.5 s5 dsg a couple hrs ago, and holy fuck. Completely changed the car driving normal, and not so normal. Can confirm, that 1st gear rolling stop jerk is gone completely.

Hey! Just picked up an Audi a3 2020 S. Sport mode is nearly unbearable with the downshifts nearly jerking me out of my seat. Is this normal or should I take it in the shop? It sounds like the tune could help with this?

Very normal for dual clutch gearboxes to be clunky and jerky especially in traffic. Normally its a quick jolt in the seat under hard acceleration when upshifting.

bought my s3 and it’s stage 1 but not sure if tcu is tuned .. i have some issues with mu transmission when i pull off and it changes gear it sometimes have like a jerk in the shift but mostly in low rpm so only when i pull of .. doesn’t happen when i put mu foot down all the way .. any help please?

Would match appropriate TCU tune with your ECU tune. Dsg service? Then perform VCDS clutch adaptation (if your shop is unable to do so go elsewhere)

Thats a great question! I'll try to talk about this on the next faq video. Short answer is are you wanting off the shelf tune? or Custom? APR & Unitronic are both OTS... COBB and UM would be good if you want a custom protune

@@savagepandaprojects Well I found out I can run a Downpipe catted and not get a CEL. in the mean time after that install. Ill go straight to stage 2. I wouldn't want to dump $$$$on stg1. So that's my factor. Deciding who can get me a safe stage 2 with DSG and good HP gains..u know...

Not necessarily. Depends on how the car is driven and maintained. Generally speaking increasing performance will increase stress on some parts but its up to the person to drive and maintain responsibly.

That would be the kickdown feature. Basically that will force the lowest possible downshift. Can be disabled with software like APR etc.

Overall it’s definitely a good mod but it’s not perfect. I don’t want to sound overly critical and unreasonable but here’s my take: It’s undeniable that it completely transforms sport mode. Sport mode legitimately knows what gear you want to be in. I definitely didn’t realize how bad sport mode was in stock configuration. Yes it shifts faster and you can launch harder too. Love all that. My gripe is that it hangs onto gears longer in drive. I know this sounds like a good thing, and I thought it would be… but I am used to shifting it or sport mode when I want to drive spiritedly. So the trade off is gas mileage and the engine working a little harder than it needs to be when I’m just commuting. It hangs on just slightly longer than I would like. I realize that isn’t a super petrolhead thing to say, but I kind of liked the ability to make it more of a dichotomy between modes. I recognize I’ve turned the engine up with the ECU and I jump on it frequently, so I’d like to give it a breather where I can. Is it essential? I think not as much as a lot of the forums made it out to be, but I’d do it again.

#6. Less engine lugging, with more low end torque your engine will be more vulnerably to engine lugging and with that more engine knocks, on my GTI I used to have more KR(Cobb monitored)on normal driving and having a good TCU tune eliminated that, if you search for most turbo engine that have blown(VW and Fords specially) you will fine than most of the engine went out on normal driving and the owner can’t explain why.

Yeah man definitely don't want to lug the engine. You probably have seen the difference in torque output with new version of apr stage 2 compared to the old one. Making about 25 lb ft less tq. You can definitely feel a more gradual delivery of power with the latest update.

So you're saying the tcu tune will help the longevity of the engine? I mostly DD the car short trips. Was thinking of doing the giac ecu and tcu 1+ tune.

Also the power band of the mqb platforms have little to give at the higher rev range... wish it shifted sooner tbh. Stock my mk7 falls on its face after 5k rpm.

@@DubbaDaveski If your DSG tune changes the shift schedule at all, yes. However, there are some tunes - COBB's OEM+ tune for example - that do not touch the shift schedule. Even when the car is stock you should avoid lugging the engine. And I will say, with my car having the stage 1 COBB tune and DSG tune, it feels a little better at 5k RPM than before, especially after I did the DSG tune. I suspect the ECU or TCU was cutting in when the car was stock.

Stage 1 does not require any bolt ons. Stage 2 requires downpipe

Yup..did an audible from APR. The guys @ brentuning in mass. Sold me into COBB tune ecu+tcu and accesport has a built in scanner tool.. SOLD... take my money. And I can tune as I put more bolt ons.

Hello Is possible to put more pressure only with vcds? I've done stage 1 on my 1.6 TDI and now trow my antenna for a bigger turbine :)) But my dq200 slows me down :/

I would say conversion rather then swap. Check TVS Engineering or try staautogearbox.co.uk/

@@bobbondarul7448 COBB's documentation seems to suggest that the clutch pressure is directly correlated to engine torque. When tuning, you have to hack around this problem by altering other maps in the TCU. So there's no "proper" way to do it on its own. I think what you want is to remove torque limits.

My car is currently running with TVS DSG stage 2+ and ECU stage 2 which is the unique combination and the car drives so smooth. No issues with clutch or engine. If someone is looking for TVS tune in the UK please let know so I can provide details of TVS Engineering dsg and ECU dealer which is the only one so far in the UK who does both.

I did both together - though, I did stage 1 first and then the very next day the DSG tune. I got a Cobb Accessport with the DSG flashing included. I gotta say, stage 1 itself feels a bit weird without the DSG tune. Honestly the DSG tune makes the factory tuning feel lazy. Do it! edit: Oh, I have a 2016 GTI by the way.

I have a Mk7 GTI and I have to say, get a tune. I went with a Cobb Accessport and have a stage 1 ECU tune and DSG OEM+ tune. I think it really wakes the car up without being ridiculous. I also would say tires and maybe wheels would also help. The very first thing I did was swap the crappy all-seasons on the car to some nice ultra-high-performance all-seasons, Goodyear Eagle Exhilarate to be specific. That alone helped out the handling feel and grip a lot. So yeah tires are number 1, tune a solid number 2, arguably number 1 if you already have your traction/grip situation figured out.

great upgrades. In addition to better tires you can add pendulum and dogbone mounts to reduce wheel hop

Conservative factory tuning is for your average family sedan, soccer moms, fuel economy etc. Not optimized for enthusiasts looking for a spirited driving experience. That is the beauty of aftermarket support available many VW/Audis.

With the increased pressure and power , tightened up DSG, say overclocked , and 3 step Launch control and stuff with guys flooring it daily , this is going to ruin your car i promise you that . Because these performance levels require proper maintenance and discipline that you won't do , because you are playing PS4 like me not working on your car , and then we have a problem. These guys sell you stuff and they are out , while you are left with problems later .They dont even teach you how to avoid damage to the car Ive seen people ruin their gearboxes in one night , manual ones not DSG , but when you remap DSG its a similar thing Im not saying dont do it , im saying there are consequences , nothing is free

So what would you advise to the community of enthusiasts that intend to Increase the performance of their DSG cars? Not tune them? I've seen plenty of guys neglect to Match appropriate TCU tunes with ECU tunes. Running high torque ECU files is not recommended without DSG software. If your against tuning the trans I would say just don't modify cars period. Have a great day.

@@savagepandaprojects Im not saying don't tune them , but if you do then you cant drive it like its not tuned up , nor can you do the maintenance like its stock car . Maintenance goes up as well , in intervals and costs , and you need to behave , need to let it worm up , lube up before you do anything My Superb 200bhp has a slow gas pedal on it , so i cant do the damage as easy as someone with tightened up gas pedal response , same goes for other things .

@@jessecooper537 im not sure what that means . Look all im saying is that tuned up car has stronger forces acting on parts , and that has to be taken in to account or else something will brake . That is why Racing cars have teams , require constant maintenance , the closer you get to that , well the bigger team you need . Is all im saying

stock DSG is "stupid" (he'll know what I'm talking about -the one who knows how long can be a half second while you wait for the transmission to shift and get power in the wheels ).... and combined with a quattro and 200 hp it cost me "falling" out of the 130 kmh bend and total damage... had to buy a new A3 ...
