March 2020 I purchased my second consecutive Subaru Outback. The first was a Limited 3.6R and my new one is an Onyx XT. I believe I will be a Subaru owner for life. Safety, utility, and a great AWD system is what keeps me coming back. I would love a hybrid one day but for now having the maneuverability of a car and the space and utility of an SUV will keep me buying.

I bought a 2012 Subaru OUtback 2.5i Limited. It's been a great machine and I love the AWD system. Really handy when we in the northeast get huge snowstorms. I like the outdoorsy look of the Outback and appreciate that it's a wagon. There really isn't that many options out there for a middle-class wagon. Volvos, Mercedes, and Audi offer wagons but they are all very expensive. I like this one since it's not too show offy like those. I would probably buy a 2018 model when mine gets up in mileage. So far it's at 106,00 miles, and plan on selling it at 165,000 miles

I have a 2020 and in general I like it but the touch screen is a step backwards. Impressive at first until you realize it’s dangerous, makes you have to take your eyes off the toad longer to make adjustments to the climate control for example. That’s why the had to add the camera above the touch screen that detects which way your face is pointed and gives you that annoying alert to pay attention. Also they cut corners here and there to save money and reduce weight for example my 2018 Outback Limited with the 3.6 six cylinder had a hood that would stay open without needing that metal rod that props it open. My 2020 has the prop. Boy do I miss my 2018 especially the 6 cylinder that they discontinued in an effort to meet government CAFE epa standards.

I'm purchasing a 2021 Subaru Outback Premium on Saturday and I can not wait! Yes, it's a few years old and has a few miles on it, (44,500), but I'm not afraid as it's a Subaru! I'm selling a newer 2022 Camry with only 32,850 miles on it! The Camry is so unconfortable it hurts my hip and back just to get to work, about 40 minute drive! I need comfort. I test drove or sat in the Mazda CX5, CX50, CX30., Buick Encore GX, Buick Envista, Rav4, ,and several other models. Nothing came close to the comfort of the seat in this Outback. I'm excited!

My 2011 Outback’s transmission had to be replaced at 100,000 miles. We were told we were out of luck and were going to have to pay $8000 to replace the transmission. After contacting the USA corporate office, they finally agreed to pay the replacement cost. At 160,000 miles, it is now leaking oil and going to cost a couple thousand dollars to repair. With only a $3,500 trade in value, it is time to buy a new car. I’m definitely concerned about potential transmission issues in a new Subaru. While I want to test drive the 2021 Outback, I am looking hard at the 2021 Mazda 6 as well.

I’d like to be convinced that it’s worth it but not totally sold. Apparently, the XT is not going to be sold, so we’d have just the slow version. I know it’s pro’s and cons but there are great features on my 2007 Outback, which was sold as a ‘sports wagon’ with frameless doors, a proper automatic gearbox and a huge glass sunroof. I’m reluctant to let go of this version. I really think that the CVT gearbox is awful and the mpg is so low. Also, the cost of them in the U.K. is so much more than yours in the States. A real shame and I think that at least a few of these negative points should be addressed, particularly the price!

Yeah Phuk Subaru - I’ve been waiting since November 2018. Who would want a 2020 model in 2021? The demand for LHD Subaru Outback turbo models in the USA is so high they can’t stop the production line long enough to make RHD models for Aus in 2020 at all! What makes you think things will be any different in 2021? Subaru don’t give a flying Phuk about our downunder market! No phukkin way they will be getting any of my hard earned $ now for as long as I live! Turn your back on me Subaru & I will return the favour! @@petron1954 POSSIBLY SO, however on the advice of a Subaru Salesman (we bought a used 2015 for my son in law & daughter at the time) I sold my boat so as to be “cashed up & ready to jump” on the first new 2.4 turbo outback’s in Nov 2019 & they never materialised at all, so I waited another year, definitely coming by November 2020 I was told. They never materialised AGAIN. Now it’s April 2021? If I were a betting man, I’d bet you $100 they don’t materialise then either. I’m over the whole “Subaru Experience” thanks, it’s just left a sh!tty taste in my mouth. Screw me over once, shame on you, but do it twice, shame on me! @@ianmoone2359 Early this year I made enquiries with the dealer and was informed there would be no new Outback before November at the earliest as the Yanks were having a lot of reliability issues with the 2.4 Turbo motor and those issues had to be rectified before Subaru Japan would commence building Australian models. I think a lot of those issues can be attributed to the actual quality of American built cars. I spoke with the same dealer in October and was informed the new Outback would be released around March 2021, that is why I said April 2021. There was no mention of whether the 2.4 Turbo would be released in Australia as Subaru are keeping quiet on that issue. I believe it will be released and it will replace the 3.6litre flat 6 which is currently available. One point I believe will be beneficial is that the ne Outback is built on the latest global platform which will lower the cost of servicing.

I am a subscriber and a fan of Boston Auto Blog. It was surprising to observe your comment that with the Outback, "Sadly you will be getting a CVT". That is a remarkably poorly informed statement. It clearly demonstrates that you do not comprehend how marvelous the Outback's CVT is. It also demonstrates that you are not reading other reviewers' evaluations of current similarly priced vehicles with automatic transmissions. Current automatic transmissions in the Outback's price range vary from 6 to 10 gears, and they fequently are reviewed as having "abrupt upshifts from 2nd to 3rd" or being "slow to downshift from 8 to 4". Carmakers' automatics differ from one another dramatically, with widely variable results, often within a single brand's lineup. And you are critical of the Outback's beautifully smooth CVT. Really?
@BostonAutoBlog
@BostonAutoBlog 2 жыл бұрын
The Subaru’s CVT is better than what’s found in Japanese rivals, but whether it mimics gears or not, from a driving aspect it diminishes the experience. The 6 speed found in the Mazda CX-5 isn’t the most refined, but it’s more enjoyable than the CVT with the Outback. Hyundai and Kia are now using dual clutch transmissions which enhance the driving experience for crossovers that typically wouldn’t be engaging to drive. Among its Japanese rivals, the Subaru’s CVT performs better than Nissan and Honda, but there’s no way I’d say it’s better than a true automatic.
@ricklewis5804

The new touch screen is a step backwards. For example, The touch screen requires you to divert your eyes off the road to make any adjustments to the climate control which is why they had to add the camera above the screen to annoyingly warn you to pay attention. Very annoying and dangerous. Used to be just one touch of a button switch to change back and forth from recirculate to outside air. With the touchscreen you have to touch the screen twice and in different places on the screen. Also, there is absolutely no reason why the computer generated mpg shouldn’t be the same as the actual true mpg. The computer always says your mpg is better than it really is bu one to one and a half mpg better.

The only reason why some (first of all Japanese and VAG with their Multitronics) car manufacturers use CVT’s is that it’s cheaper in production than common automatic gearboxes. No one cares about “effectiveness” and “emission lowering”, only money matters. In any case customer will pay full price, and marketing will help him to make a “right” choice.

@@citysurfer1 Hello Ben Ben! Last time I checked was at least $3500.00 Cdn(Parts, Labor, tax) plus it was sitting in the garage for at least15 business days because the head had to be sent out to a machine shop. You could even add the hassle and expense of renting a vehicle or taking transit during that time. Please don't forget that it is not a permanent fix. Everytime the head is machined, the compression ratio increases and necessitate the use of high octane gasoline to prevent knocking.
