Another tip for students: don't feel like you have to emphasize education or formal work experience. If you have side projects that are more relevant to the position than your coursework (an unspoken rule in the tech sector), dedicate more space to that.

If you're curious, here's a general-purpose copy of my resume that you can look at: thomasjfrank.com/locker/Thomas%20Frank%201-page%20Resume.pdf Since I'm not applying for any specific job, it's not tailored and the experience is in (roughly) chronological order - which isn't necessarily the best order, as the video points out. However, you might find the accomplishment descriptions and formatting to be useful as examples. If you have other career questions, let me know about them! I want to start mixing in videos like this amongst the academic/productivity videos, as I think this topic is needed too.

I have been volunteering for one hour a week as a swim teacher for a long time, its worth more weight on my cv than my childcare experience as I can really show my leadership, communicating with parents and teamwork over a long period of time, never underestimate how valuable a small volunteer commitment can be, especially if the skills are transferable.

I don't consider myself Lazy but I'm 47 yrs old and have little time on my hands to keep up with One resume, much less individual ones for every position.. It's ridiculous this is what the hiring PR are so interested in vs face to face meetings to find the Right fit for the position.. When I was seeking employees I wanted to meet them personally because if their attitude wasn't up to par their skills nor their fluffed up resume didn't mean a dern thing to me or my Boss. js to much emphasis is placed on the wrong things these days in "hiring"

the presence of fealuthical mammals on this earth troubles me I can see by this response that you don't pay attention to what you read. Plainly stating, One Resume is Enough. If you have background knowledge in the position being applied for the Hiring Manager, Not the hiring Employer, will Choose to interview you to see if your personality and character will be a good for the Job. It's their job to choose the Best Overall candidate as it costs the company money Everytime they hire someone and even more when they don't work out.

reynal_omnicide Those things have absolutely nothing to do with it.. I'm antisocial but I'm also able to talk and be vocal when I'm working. It's more to do with how you "Speak" and carry yourself

This video is useful for the cover letter, you point out your best skills for the position, language skills, your motivation for work...and when you are available to start the position, maybe you are employed right now and you are looking for a new job and you have 60 days before ending your old job posting and start a new one... Yes you can negotiate to shorten it, but not always... And usually it is expected to send the CV in the form of Europass along with the cover letter or email.

One thing I love using is Grammarly. Helps with grammar and spell check and its FREE One thing a lot of recruiters told me they like how they are in order (newest at the top). Versus putting what looks best.

These are great tips, delivered very effectively! I agree wholeheartedly that a strong work ethic and solid problem-solving ability can trump a lot of skills that can be learnt on the job. However, I disagree with the assessment that "flipping burgers" or overall experience in hospitality should not be highlighted. I work with highly motivated young adults who have not completed a college degree. Many of them came from backgrounds that have taught them invaluable lessons regarding grit, perseverance and problem-solving. In addition, many have experience working in restaurants or retail, with skills that easily transfer to the financial or customer service field in general. Bottom line: do not dismiss these jobs - skills are transferable!

I watched this last year some time and found it super helpful. But now it’s come time to start applying and I don’t even know where to start. So maybe a video on where to even start when applying for jobs?
