Can I just say, at 11:40 it is impressive that you purposely missed but did super close. It's a weird thing I noticed but If I were trying to purposely miss I would have to just air ball. Its strangely impressive that shot.

Like the drills a lot! Question; On #2 wouldn't you want to step pas the defender with the opposite foot, to protect the ball and create more separation?

with an 'open' step, the player protects the ball with the first dribble to the outside of the knee, preventing it from being poked away. Take care the pivot doesn't leave the floor before the dribble has started, if it's lifted before, it's a travel, like you see demonstrated here. The foot with which the first step is taken should be on the floor at the same time as the ball in the first dribble: '(Stepping) Foot on the floor-ball on the floor' is the coaching point. Maybe in US this is viewed different but in FIBA-basketball this is the rule.

Nice drills with good form and explanation but the 5th one shows Zach traveling every time. He catches, lands on one foot, then takes another step and lands on both feet. Then he pivots which is a travel. He needs to catch and land on both feet, then he can legally pivot.

⭐️ Basketball 🏀 is so Euro and “Professional” centric we have to identity what rule book some of the new instructional materials are using 😅! ☝🏿 “Sometimes there is confusion about what is or is not traveling, and when do you still have a pivot allowable after a jump stop. See the jump-stop and traveling rules from the National Federation of State High Schools website. My interpretation is this - it depends on whether you already have possession of the ball or not (as in receiving a pass), and whether or not you have already used up the one-step that you are entitled to. When receiving a pass with a jump-stop, you can pivot after the jump-stop and either foot can become the pivot foot. A perimeter player can catch the ball with a jump-stop, and the pivot into triple-threat position if necessary and use the non-pivot foot for executing jab-step fakes or a drive step. Now let's take a player who already has possession of the ball on the outside. He/she makes a dribble move into the lane, picks up the dribble, takes one step, and then lands a two-footed jump-stop. So far, so good. But after landing the jump-stop, he/she cannot move either foot and has no pivot foot since the one step was already used prior to the jump-stop. He/she could jump upward, but must either shoot or pass the ball before either foot touches the floor again.” 💫 2. A player who catches the ball while moving or dribbling may stop and establish a pivot foot as follows: a. If both feet are off the floor and the player lands; (1) Simultaneously on both feet, either foot may be the pivot. (2) On one foot followed by the other, the first foot to touch is the pivot. (3) On one foot, the player may jump off that foot and simultaneously land on both. Neither foot can be a pivot in this case. 💫 😢 A jump stop is legal movement that occurs when a player 1. catches the ball while moving (airborne or not) or dribbling 2. stops with one foot on the floor 3. jumps off the foot on the floor and lands simultaneously on both feet* After a jump stop is completed, no pivot foot is available except under WNBA rules. WNBA rules allow either foot to be the pivot foot after a jump stop.

🧐 NBA Rules A player who comes to a stop on step one when both feet are on the floor or touch the floor simultaneously may pivot using either foot as his pivot. If he jumps with both feet he must release the ball before either foot touches the floor. A player who lands with one foot first may only pivot using that foot. A progressing player who jumps off one foot on the first step may land with both feet simultaneously for the second step. In this situation, the player may not pivot with either foot and if one or both feet leave the floor the ball must be released before either returns to the floor.

NCAA Section 22. Jump Stop Art. 1. A jump stop is executed when a player catches the ball while moving or dribbling with: a ) One foot on the playing court, jumps off that foot and lands simultaneously on both feet (no pivot foot) b) Two feet off the playing court, lands on one foot, jumps off that foot and lands simultaneously on both feet (no pivot foot) Art.2. A jump stop may also be executed when the dribbler has one foot on the playing court, initiates a jump off that foot, ends the dribble with both feet off the playing court and lands simultaneously on both feet (either foot can be established as the pivot foot)

3:12 = travel. One cannot lift pivot foot to start a dribble... To shot or pass yes, to start a dribble no.
