"back to the dealer!" It is a bit frustrating that this is the only solution for the most part. Which is why I think it is important which motor people buy. Some brands work faster than other, and have a larger dealer network.

While I have a warranty I can bring it back to the dealer.But what if I got over that?I usually do anything on my own.How a bout a "how to do" video on replacing the bearings or what ever gets worn out in time? Maybe for the four or five main engine brands.

rather a lot of "take it back to the dealer". I think the lesson is: buy from an ebike-experienced (reasonably) local bike shop.

If there's a knocking noise when pedaling a Bosch CX motor, check the drive cog hasn't come loose. It's happened to me twice now but hopefully blue loctite on the thread will have solved it.

I just got home from a ride in the pitch black woods. -5 degrees Celsius, which is not a problem for me, but it might have been a problem for the Shimano E8000. Bike fell down when I rode onto super smooth ice and lost traction on both tires. I picked it up, started pedalling again, but after one or two revolutions there was a lot of resistance in the motor (I suspect it is the motor). I stopped riding immediately, tried to power off/on, tried removing and resetting the battery. Still resistance without the battery in place. Put the bike in warm storage for now. Gonna check on it in the morning. I really hope it's not a huge issue. The bike is like 2 years old with less than 1500 kilometers on it. I have been keeping the bike in our shack outside. It's not heated, but my brother (an electrician) told me that shouldn't be a problem as long as I keep some charge in the battery.

I purchased my Cube Stereo Hybrid 160 from a dealer 18 months ago. It was a year old and had 1000km on the motor. I have put another 3000km on it with 80,000m of elevation gain and about 80% offroad in the Peak District. I always service the bike after every ride and only wash by hand. I expect to replace the drive train components; third cassette and jockey wheels, 4th chain and motor sprocket. However, a new motor at my expense at 4000km because all the bearings were worn and main shaft pitted when everything else on the bike is in good order is not good. There seems to be a lot of miss information about the robustness of this non serviceable part or maybe I'm just riding it too hard even though I'm in my late 60's!!
@steviedsolve
@steviedsolve 4 жыл бұрын
Did they give you a discount on the replacement motor James? How much did you pay? I'd have thought a bearing and main shaft was easily replaced and much cheaper than a whole new motor. I'm guessing this will be these year when we see a lot more of these type of experiences and the motor manufacturers will allow bike shops to do more repairs.
@boutu38
@boutu38 4 жыл бұрын
@@steviedsolve I didn't go back to the dealer as it was out of warranty. I sent the motor to a guy who does servicing and overhauls and his diagnosis was it was not worth the repair and sold me a new motor for a very good price. I was pleased and will stay with Bosch for next ebike. I'm guessing there are big variations in how long motors last due to different riding conditions etc. Loving the ebike and completed 100km trans Peak District ride a couple of weeks back with majority offroad.
@steviedsolve
@steviedsolve 4 жыл бұрын
@@boutu38 I'd say you're right about the variation. I'd imagine peak district weather is quite tough on them. Nice work with the trans peak ride James. Sounds like just what ebikes were designed for. Next year the alps!

Prevention is better than cure.... My Bosch CX has been fitted with a "Mud Stop" main motor bearing seal (better by far than the OE seal) and packed out all the other vulnerable bearing areas with Bosch grease to keep water(and thus crap) as far away from the bearings as possible.... UK folk should google "Performance Line Bearings"... that's where my motor is going for overhaul when needed- I've a year left on warranty but the bike was bought online 400 miles away so not sending a whole bike back for a few bearings...

Would all Boch motor types spin freely backwards or only Performance line CX? I have a Boch performance line (NOT CX) on a Scott aspect 930 and when I spin the paddles backwards it engages the chain and the motor. Is that normal?

18000km on my bosch e-mtb. on 12000 km a bearing changed (the bearing on the gear closed to the motor, it was fully destroyed). And now the motor slips. So in totale 2 motor repaires. I thought i should buy a new one but the tire (repaire), suspention (repaire -> upgrade), breaks (repaire -> upgrade) and display have been changed + I also have got an extra battery and charger. Now most bosch ebikes have internal battery's so i wouldn't be able to use these. So I decided to keep my bike. Sadly the is no update for more power like te 4 gen motor

Tomas Z good news than! However what I recently realized is that if I go on high speed on turbo and than reduce the power into Eco i hear&feel something like the gears are working inside the motor. Hard to describe but usually it happen after longer runs. The next day everything of fine again. Otherwise same scenario with upgrade with me. On my cube acid hybrid i already for rockshox recon, seat post suntour ncx (works really great), narrow wide in front and some other smaller upgrades. I'm completely happy with it but since I started to go more and more in the woods I'm look g forward fully. I wish they produced fullys with this motor. All other (except brose mag s) are noisy to me which destroys the fun and silence which I enjoy in the woods. Have fun! 👍💪
