I've been watching a ton of mtb videos lately. There are a lot of exceptionally skilled riders making high quality videos these days. (Late 2023) The riders on this channel, especially Steve, just have something more. The others have chops, but these guys here have soul. They have all the chops too, but those skills are not the most important part of their focus. I think what I might be noticing and trying to say is, the other channels, which I have been learning a lot from, seem to be isolated on the moves and certain obstacles. Here at EMBN it about exploring, taking in the sights, enjoying your day out, and riding the very best you can. It's about mountain biking. I appreciate the personalities. Thanks, all!

Thanks for the info. A lot to adjust to when going from a regular mtb to a emtb. Seems as though cadence and shifting cogs would be easy. I would never think to the drop the seat post when climbing. I move front to rear on the saddle or stand up, on my regular mtb, to make it up a climb. The error log is like OBD in cars.

@-n3v-

My older E8000 fully unlocked using older firmware is just as customisable and feels equally as powerful than my newer EP8. This isn't much of an upgrade in my experience. Emtb's are unafforadable for the average person, so going for a 2019 or 2020 bike with an older E8000 will save a lot of cash without losing any of the fun. Shimano purposely locked all the good software options so they can push the EP8.

Good vid. Been riding 20+ years but new to e-bikes. a lot to learn still about climbing. I found eco too weak and boost almost the same as trail mode. so I just made a custom profile that is so much nicer. I have ridden one with a Brose motor and it was nice too. but did feel a bit less sophisticated. more simple. As far as having less power goes I think shimano know what they are doing and could have made it 90 torque if they wanted to. maybe about life-span or just not blowing hub bearings like someone said below. definantly not limited by power on steep climbs so you don't really need more power. Would like the speed limit removed eventually but loving it so far.

I have just found on 1 of my profiles today while messing about..that trail mode and boost mode were set to the exact same specs on 1 of the profiles.. Im not sure if this is Shimano or bike producer doing this to the custom settings... Like you I made my own profile that suits me great.. I am going to do some testing between the default profiles and my own.

Re the sizing comments below. Canyon would definitely size you as a medium as I am 6ft and that's what they told me. So an XL seems a big jump from what they recommend. I just bought the L and it feels fine so far. Makes me wonder if their sizing chart is incorrect?

If they just had battery watts and wh/mi consumption remaining range should be easy to calc. The bar types are voltage based and subject to sag and are never very accurate. The whole "I got home with 25% battery left" is pretty meaningless actually due to voltage sag, especially down past 50%. Oh, and he was standing up on the climbs....

I want to buy a EMTB based on the motor. I have tried the Bosch 4gen motor and it was awesome, Strong! That brings me to Cube. But I like other brands much better such as Canyon and YT. They offer much better suspension at the same price point as Cube. I have not tried the Ep8 motor but did try the previous generation and it wasn’t all that. I fear that the Ep8 is just a small upgrade of the previous motor. Can anyone help me shed some light on this. Bosch or Ep8

When considering a Shimano system remember when your 2 year warranty runs out on your £5k emtb if the motor craps out its not repairable, no parts are available so your motor is landfill. Not very sustainable and very expensive. You then have to buy a new motor and have it installed by Shimano service centre so you get the 2 year motor warranty, this costs £1000, now if you used your bike a lot the battery is getting a bit tired and ready for replacement another £700 so this may be a difficult decision. For this tis reason I’m now out. Don’t get me wrong Ebikes are great but only when in warranty. for some reason Shimano doesn’t want to make them repairable, and they allgo wrong at some point.
