My rule is to never go into combat without at least one stunbreak. No exceptions, even in instanced content, even if it's not included on Snow Crows. One important use case is if you get knocked off something high, you can stunbreak in the air and deploy the glider. In the open world it's also very handy to have at least some condition cleanse somewhere.
@joshuaxiong83776 ай бұрын
yup, it's because those builds rely on the designated support to do that for them and/or they're good enough to deal with mechanics. so therefore, they can go for that extra bit of non-stunbreak utility,
@daydev25996 ай бұрын
@@joshuaxiong8377 You come to depend on your supports to give stability and aegis and ignore mechanics for a few hundred extra dps, and then you end up in that meme video where half the squad is yeeted by the Deimos pizza.

Thats why I dislike snowcrows. It's papercraft. Of course some dps is important, but if trading a bit of that for comfort and less wipes, then I am all in.

absolutely, great points. sometimes having that emergency survival skill makes the difference to help you survive a tough fight or mechanic
@traveling.down.the.road565 ай бұрын
Good rule to follow, specially in PvP, where you have to rely on yourself to get out of sticky situations. I think it’s wise for players who are learning new encounters to play builds that are well rounded, instead of min/maxed for highest DPS. Parties and squads that are extremely experienced can get away with less utility, because they know the encounters so well that they can usually avoid most attacks.

6. Break enemy Defiance Bars! 7. Boons are overpowered! (Especially Protection and Aegis for survivability.) 8. Don't underestimate the use of control conditions, such as Weakness and Blindness. (Just as powerful as Protection and Aegis in the right scenario) 9. All builds benefit from having at least one stunbreak and a condition cleanse. (Makes combat more reactive and fun, as you can quickly recover from mistakes and maintain your pressure on the enemy!)

I remember how in a previous video, it was stated that playing a diff profession completely changes how you experience the game. Playing a Condi Daredevil reminded me of that as I watched the part about dodging. As a Condi DD, you have around 8 dodges, three of which give buffs, 5 deal AoE damage and Bleeds. Dodging becomes both offensive and defensive, forcing you to rethink how dodges should be used. And there's the Vindicator with only one dodge. This is the only MMO I play now and it's both fun and not because I don't think I can go back to the "traditional" ones anymore.
@Evan4K6 ай бұрын
well said, that's a really good point. Using your dodges offensively sounds like you'd be wasting your dodges but if you have the knowledge of the the class it definitely works really well.

I struggle a lot with the sheer information overload that combat in this game often can be. This means that I can be looking at the screen, I can see that *something* is happening, but I have no idea how to interpret it, and whether I should move or not. It doesn't help the fact that in stressful situations, I basically go into tunnel vision mode, having to constantly check skill cooldowns and frantically pressing buttons at the wrong time.
@traveling.down.the.road564 ай бұрын
@Twinrehz, a lot of players don’t realize how important the leveling process is for learning how each class works and for your first character, how the combat system works. It’s normal for players to think that this part of the game isn’t important and they don’t put much effort into learning. They just want to get the max level as soon as possible. GW2 is different from most games and in my opinion, the combat system is more complex and interesting, but many players are used to easy games that depend on over powered gear treadmills that allow players to be less focused on skill and knowledge of how everything works together. Most experienced GW2 players suggest that new players take their time leveling up so they can learn how their class works, as well as how the combat system works.
@Twinrehz4 ай бұрын
@@traveling.down.the.road56 And to this I very much agree, but the content you encounter while levelling is far too easy in that regard, and I've certainly learned some bad habits that I can't seem to shake off. There's also a considerable inconsistency in how dangerous AoE-effects are, which throws people off quite a lot when they're not familiar with the encounter.

That build tip was so real. I remember when I decided to try looking at my build and figuring out what to do and shock! I got a lot better at the game!

3:05 THIS is exactly the problem I have with snowcrow papercraft builds. Trading utility for that tiny DPS-squeeze, not taking into account that the skill you just used for you most holiest of rotations is either a cc or movement skills that you could make use of later. Also thank you for saying "dead players don't deal damage". Thats why I prefer to play with ppl who trade some dps for comfort, if it increases the chance of not wiping on a strike- or raidboss. I mean yeah, sure, you COULD kills the boss faster and spend less time on it when having higher dps. But guess what costs more time? Wiping.
@user-fq7ti7bl4t6 ай бұрын
Impressive how wrong you are. If you are dying with a snowcrow build then either you are doing the mechanics wrong, your healer is not doing his job or you are just a bad player.

@@user-fq7ti7bl4t so your response to me advocating for builds that do not instantly punish Every mistake is "just don't make mistakes". You are far from Reality, and your snarky tone just further provides an example to Why snowcrow-papercraft is damaging to the Game.

Something to keep in mind about meta builds is that sometimes they are designed assuming you will have proper party composition, and a party of experienced players that know mechanics and fill their role properly. If you have those two things then absolutely meta builds can be great. But if you don't have a proper party or maybe playing with new players, or playing open world or solo, that is where I think those meta builds start to have issues. Personally I think having a little extra survivability on your build to avoid a wipe is preferable to going full dps and causing a wipe or huge dps loss because a simple mistake caused you to die.
@Wisznuification6 ай бұрын
Entering combat in a right way is crucial. In open world, the fight is concluded with your first move, if you do the right one. If your class has an access to aoe cc, you should start with that in most cases. That is, if you play solo of course.

The personal build tuning is so important, and I'm glad you mentioned changing it up when you need to. One of the things I preach is the right amount of survival is "enough". "Enough" is extremely personal and variable. The amount of survival I usually take is very minimal, but I've been playing continuously since the betas. Part of how I got to that point on my main was I treated myself like a frog in a pot. When I started making my first set of legendary gear I went from an ascended set that had more vitality and each new piece of legendary stayed full DPS until I completed the set. I slowly got used to the low HP and relying on my gameplay to stay alive. If I'm learning a new build I still go back to having more survival until I master it. I'm mostly a WvW kid, so even though I'm a lifer player if I'm having a sluggish night or the enemy teams are tough I dial up the survival. The game is all about tuning for the challenges you face. From a newer player perspective you can't learn your rotations if you never get to finish them. So stay alive, just make sure you don't get too comfy and are always pushing to reduce your need for survival builds.

a good point to is know what is the core of your class for example thief they can steal a skill and thats not random every enemy have a skill the thiefs can steal and use a good one to remember are the ghosts of ascalon all of them will give you Aoe Fear you can use to break defiance bars easly Specially when you have a certain awakened invasion

There's still many many examples of tool tips that aren't complete. I for one, find this hard to believe, and it held me back for a long time. mech rifle 3 having hard cc on it (that is hidden) because of the built in mech trait is a good example.

Am I too late to add: Learn who You are as a player. We don't have to play what's popular. We can't all be elementalists. There's no shame in playing the so-called beginner classes if that's what you like. Don't be afraid to experiment. Discover your strengths AND What_You_Like_To_Play and build to suit who you are. If it feels right you will have more fun and so odds are that you will be more successful. What you learn about yourself may surprise you.
