I've watched many chain plying video done on spinning wheels, but this is the first time I have been able to follow how the chain is made. I'm sat here gleefully chain plying random balls of yarn! Thank you so much.

The difference between chain plying on a wheel and this method is that here Nicole isn't adding twist to the new 3ply yarn because it was already a plied yarn. As a spinner, I chain ply my single ply with opposite twist to how the single was spun. Knitting with Nicole's yarn will feel more like knitting with 3 separate strands together rather than one thick strand where the plies are wound around each other. But the structure of the chain is exactly the same and made in the same way - pulling a loop through a loop, just the same as in a crochet chain.

As a spinner, I enjoyed the chain ply demo for knitters. Hopefully helpful hint: Twist the chain ply in the opposite direction of the existing ply to help get it closer to a proper "3-ply" and round it out.

Loving the ssk and swatching in the round - thank you! I already slip one knitwise, slip one purlwise for my ssks which gives the same result but doing it one movement makes it super speedy. The little tug of the second stitch is also something I'd not thought of. Saving this video for future reference! 😊

Awesome tips! I like the ssk alternative. I’ve done the chain ply to make a 3-strand yarn, but I don’t like how sometimes you can see the 3-strands of yarn in your fabric. As a spinner, what I do is overspin the entire ball of yarn Z onto a bobbin, then (putting that bobbin onto a lazy Kate), chain-ply it onto another bobbin S. I know not everyone has access to a spinning wheel (or wouldn’t consider doing this), but I find it certainly gives a better looking yarn result. Watch Oscar with that wand!!!!!

While watching your tip for cabling without a cable needle I noticed that you're knitting into the back of the stitch. As an experienced knitter, I can see that your stitches are mounted in reverse. Can you help me? My knitting sides are horrible!!! Just cannot get them to be the same. The first three stitches on one side are loose... The other side the first three stitches are tighter... I use longer needles like we do in Italy. I M trying to use the method you do but I am St the beginning of this teaming session. I ve been knitting for many years, same problem as you initially... Messy work. But I will not give up. Thanks for your help.

Is there a twisted long tail cast off to match the cast on?

Your timing with this question is flawless - I'm just working on testing a few potential matching bind offs on a current project. I'll let you know how it goes. 😊

They are Signature needles. Unfortunately, they stopped producing them last year, but you might find some used somewhere. Brace yourself…they are pricey 😉💰

@@Knicoleknits You mentioned a tutorial about knitting sweaters top bottom, that's all I know. I would like to try this way of knitting a sweater, so I won't have to seam anything. If you can't help me, no problem.

@@rosagielen7757My best recommendation is go to Tin Can Knits website and use the search function to find their top down sweater tutorials. They have them for both top down raglan and round yoke 😊

Why is it you knit the first couple ans last couple of stitches through the back loop? I’ve never seen this before thanks
@Knicoleknits
@Knicoleknits 16 күн бұрын
I do that to twist the stitches at the edges. This helps keep the edges from loosening up as I handle the swatch. I only do it for this particular type of swatching. 😊

Why do you knit through the back on the ends of your swatch?
@Knicoleknits
@Knicoleknits 5 күн бұрын
I do that to tighten up those edge stitches, which tend to loosen up quite a bit in this type of swatch. 😊

Really like the SSK trick! But not the cabling without a cable needle. I love knitting cables, but don't like the idea of slipping stitches off the needle. Nope. Not for me.

The pseudo- chain plying is a great way you can use up leftover fingering weight yarn. It also can minimize pooling/flashing from variegated yarns. Stephen West did a video on it a few years ago- you could make a cool penguono this way.
