PS, I think it was KZfaqr, Erin Busby, who coined the phrase “crotch framing tunic“ to describe those tunics with a the crossover in front.

Some of these frumpy things we 40/50+ wore in the 90s ! Maybe not aimed at us and some dresses aimed at 70/80+!!

thank you for pointing out the details (and styles) on these clothes that are hard to wear and what makes them frumpy. For an untrained eye, it's hard to understand why something doesn't feel right and not knowing what is actually bringing our style down (even with trendy clothes), well thanks to Nada, it's easier to look better.

Oh those pale floral blouses and dresses are really frumpy. Agree with you; one should be very discerning when it comes to the trends. Some are good, bad or plain ugly!😂

Thank you for hitting these ugly trends! Good gracious! I have been waiting for someone to talk about these ugly styles. Older women (such as myself) do not look good in them. I know that I would not feel sexy or pretty in them. These are what I call, “I give up” styles. If you have given up on yourself, put these on. And you will achieve that style with no problem. ❤

This is my first time to see one of your videos. Maybe I needed bigger pics of the floral items but some of the ones you disliked I liked & some of the ones you liked, I thought were hideous! (Sorry!) Some of the “likes” I considered to be so “little old lady” which is ironic because I am 71.5 years old! LOL! I almost closed the site when I saw the shoes which were all terrible but stayed. However, when you got to the denim skirts you had me on board. Obviously, I’m not into mini or micro mini skirts even though I am petite & slim. I think it would be too shocking for the eyes to see an older face showing off too much leg! Mais non! I was interested in the advice for the longer denim skirts because I have been looking for one. Thank you for that. By the time you got to the cargo pants I was enjoying the humour of your comments! Honestly, I never wore “parachute pants” when they first came out! If that’s considered one of the five Spring trends then, I pass! Thank you & take care.

I really enjoyed this video and found myself saying “eeew” a lot; Denim Band-Aid? Still laughing. I proudly wore my maxi length denim jumper when I was in college in the 1970s. That’s where the maxi denim trend should stay.😂

Thanks for emphasizing the importance of color. I always see some same shoes as belonging to the frumpy and trendy depending on thr color, and I had often wondered if it was just me. Thanks for pointing that out.

You've mentioned Rio Farm Brand in a couple of your videos. What do you think of their shorts and matching shirt sets for a beach/island vacation? Have you done a video on this brand? How would you style their colorful prints? I appreciate your quick advice.

Hi Leigh! I love their shorts sets and I think they’re perfect for a tropical vacation. I wore exclusively for Maria when I went to Miami recently you can play up there statement prints by adding fun earrings or you can keep it simple. I did a mix of both by keeping the jewelry, fun and funky, but pairing the pieces with brown strap he sandals, or gold espadrilles that were a little bit more subtle, it’s really a personal style thing and there’s no real right or wrong. I haven’t done a video specifically about this brand, but I have mentioned them in a couple of videos as you have noticed. Maybe I will do a video on how to wear statement or funky brands like this one.

Wow some of those styles were really awful. This Winter I am finding a lot of the clothes in the shops horribly frumpy so I'm glad you are showing us how to get around this trend. I remember in the early 2000's midi denim skirts being in fashion but they made them out of softer fabrics like tencel and they were still hard to style🤣

Omg you made me laugh so hard!! The "Moomoo in a top"!! 🤣🤣 That was certainly atrocious! I tend to dislike most floral prints, especially small prints, ruffles, etc. I feel its juvenile & most of these trends are a late 90s, early 2000s throwback. But...early 2000s also had cleaner, more simple lines which I like.

My favorite videos of yours are the ones like this that tell us what Not to wear because sometimes I keep wearing the same stuff until you say, stop it! lol :)

Thank you so much Diane! I’m so glad you found this helpful! Cargo pants are not everyone’s style (I’m not usually a fan myself) but the difference between the frumpy ones, and the more flattering ones comes down to fit. The frumpy ones are very baggy and very long, whereas the more flattering ones are less baggy and stiff.

Hi Nada, here in Canada the stores are full of very frumpy floral dresses. I call the floral, tiered and ruffled style: Sunday school dresses! Ugh! And those horrible jeans maxi skirts? These skirts have been popular for years, worn by ladies of a particular religious sect! I am a fan of the nude colour loafers and the ballerina shoes, and I also like the pretty bright green and pink colours this spring. Cheers to good style!

Oh my! I'm speechless. The floral tops and dresses both frumpy and not frumpy were mostly not good. What I found scary was that in order to buy a good trend dress or , top you would have to be there with me. Lol maybe this is one of those seasons where if we hold our breath and wait a few months better things will come out. Great video just some awful fashion. The long denim skirt awful. The shoes were what old well healed grandma's would have worn in the 60s. Its scary. ❤❤❤❤

The only way I like a knee length skirt is if it's pencil shape. Otherwise mini/midi/maxi looks to my eye more trend led.

I know I will never be an “in fashion person” but for me there is one place denim belongs and that is a pair of jeans. The rest look simply …not elegant. Skirts are gorgeous long or short , heavy wool crepe or light chiffon any material other than denim for over 40.

I don’t know about that. I thought I’d check out a slightly longer, pencil skirt style but the denim skirts longer than a mini seem to be sold out everywhere. I’m petite & must be careful of length & drape. I just get a bit worried about shorter (not necessarily mini which is a no-no) denim skirts maybe making me look like a “ biker chick”!! LOL! One must be very careful what one pairs with such a skirt. After all, I am not a cougar! More like a tired old sabre-toothed tiger at my age!

@Deirdre Walsh As you can tell I’m not used to trying to do comments on these sites! I sincerely hope that you didn’t think I was criticizing your comment! I wasn’t & agree wholeheartedly that denim & jeans are partners for life. I’ve been a Blue Jean Baby since the 60’s but back then we sometimes wanted to alter our usual “uniform” into something at least slightly more feminine & voila! the jean skirt was born. I said I was looking for one for this season but trying to suss out what length would look nice on a petite person. It would depend on the weight of the denim. Lighter so that it drapes nicely if it is more full. I’m leaning towards a more midi pencil skirt style but can’t find what I want yet. I may have to make one. And like I said, now that I’m an old geezer I don’t want to embarrass myself in anything too short. I don’t want to be mistaken for a biker chick or Senior streetwalker trying to supplement my Old Age Pension! LOL! No worries re: your comment. You have every right to your own preferences & I didn’t see them sweeping generalizations! As long as we can maintain some taste & common sense, we will be chic, eh? Take care!

😉Don't be talking trash 🗑 about Mary Tyler Moore (or even That Girl). Both of the leading ladies from these 🆒️ 📺 shows favored a more modern, classic timeless silhouette. They might've worn a groovy flower 🏵 power gown for an evening out, but that was rare. Nary a precious or prairie dress in sight! Floral & Flounces as well as Denim Skirts touch me on a ChurchCore💒 or GrandmaCore👵 level. In my corporate days, I did not favor florals for the office. I will proceed with caution ⚠️. I might be able to do a ruffle or tier on a LWD or LBD, but I 💯% lean less fussy details & more elegant silhouettes when it comes to 💮flowers💮. I like cargo pants (& joggers), but I dislike pockets that exaggerate my hips & cuffed or elastic hems that make me look stumpy🪵. Prefer a pant that nicely hangs &/or drapes vs more structured fabric like jeans 👖. 😊Enjoyable presentation. Loved your 3 tier level of options. Agreed with the majority of your assessments.
