Kel is the golden boy of Acceptance. While others are still strugling, Thank you Kel, for letting Sunny out :)

I noticed this when I was watching a playthrough and how well it fits their character: Sunny is in denial essentially creating a safe haven in his own head Aubrey is enraged at the fact that she felt like everyone abandoned her after what happened Basil is still trying to stick to the past and make it seem like Sunny wasn't at fault Hero had a huge slump where he neglected everything for almost a year And Kel seemed to be the only one who moved on with life even after the shock

Kel has talked about his issues with being ignored and abandoned, yet he's so calm and caring and accepting. Its obvious he would handle it the best since he knows how to cope properly. He also didn't lose his lover or his sibling like sunny and Hero did. And he also didn't murder his friend like sunny and basil. And he didn't lose someone he looked up to and saw like a sister like aubrey did. Yet he still was close friends with mari so its kinda harmful to suggest he never cared as much cause he obviously did. He's truly an interesting character. This was a very long comment my bad sorry.

5 Stages of Stairs

This is so well done, I never realised how each of them could easily fit into the five stages of grief. Truly this is really enjoyable to watch

so interesting to think of kel as the one who has now accepted that mari's gone. at first i thought it was bc he wasn't as close to her as the others (ex. hero was dating her, sunny was her brother, aubrey looked up to her), but then i realized that it was bc kel is the only one who actually "moved on". all the others sort of got stuck in this constant state of permanence, not being able to move on from her yet not knowing how to cope from her death. kel is the only one who realized that she was gone, and no matter what he did he couldn't get her back, so he kept living. he kept going to school, kept making friends, joined the basketball team. hero only moved on at the suggestion of his parents, aubrey was trying to unhealthy cope by raging on others, and we know sunny and basil's whole deal. kel did what was best for him, which is why he's the only one who reached acceptance

The thing is though, you don't just go through them one by one. Sometimes you end up jumping straight into acceptance only for something to happen that makes you go into denial or depression. Other times a single action can cause you to go from anger to denial, then anger and depression, and maybe you might end with acceptance. Grief isn't a linear path. More like a train station.

To the comments saying Kel is acceptance: I don't agree. Kel never visited Mari's grave once and was apprehensive to do so, or really acknowledged the fact that there was a serious problem with most of the friend group. He also ran away to a new group of friends, much like Aubrey. At most, he's forced acceptance or forced maturity.

Huh, that is actually a good insight. Wonder if that was planned.

I feel like if anyone still stuck with Sunny after he told the truth, it would definitely Kel and Basil, I feel like Hero would take time to think about it and I feel like Aubrey is 50/50, she could easily go either was with how she reacts to it because Sunny did help Aubrey come to terms with Mari’s death but also, learning that he was the source of her pain and anger could gaslight her into hating him forever

each character in the emotions chart is how they reacted to maris death: hero: sad: he shut himself inside, blaming himself for not doing anything to help mari. aubrey: mad: she was abandoned by her old friends. kel: happy:he moved on and accepted it. sunny: neutral: he brought himself to believe it never happened, shutting out every emotion. basil: _afraid_ he was scared to show the truth, scared that everyone hates him, scared to lose his only friends to his own idea.

this animatic is absolutely gorgeous! the expressions, your art style, the music, the way the 5 stages all correspond to the characters perfectly.. and kel. kel is and absolute sunshine, i am so grateful for him. he makes me so happy and to have someone that strong in your life enough to lift you up after an incident like that,, they're all so lucky to have him.

You never know how much death has an impact on people. After the passing away of one of my friends it sometimes feels like you simply just can't feel... anything. Nothing makes you laugh and you live with the mindset "if I'm happy even once it means I'm faking being sad," and that stuff messes with you. I only knew that boy for half a term and yet the emotions I felt after his death haunt me even now, almost a month after his passing. Everyone misses him and his sisters; and the grief and loss everyone feels is portrayed almost perfectly in Omori, including the grief and not ever being able to quite let go, or move on. He's dead, like Mari and let me tell you now - if you haven't experienced the passing of someone in your life: Be ready for it to hit you suddenly. Don't isolate yourself, be there for others. It's okay to cry. You might not feel things straight away. Make sure to live your life as caring as Mari was. Speak in a way to everybody, so if they died tomorrow, you'd be satisfied with the last thing you said to them.

I like how everyone stays consistent with their colors up until acceptance Showing that during the course of the story they’re still grieving

sure there may be 5 stages of grief but there's a lot more than 5 stairs in sunny's house

Kel reminds me of the type of grief where you don't fully comprehend what happened for a vary long time.

When my best friend killed herself, I was more like Aubrey in the beginning. Angry, full of hate and I just wanted everyone gone. But after a few months of living with that hate and anger, I realised it’s not what she would’ve wanted for me. She would’ve wanted me to laugh and joke about the good times we had. So now I feel like kel represents me. Not 100% over it but I can still move on and carry on without her nkw

This is so well done! It really feels like it was made for OMORI.

SUNNY is Denial because, well, the entire game is mostly ABOUT his denial to accept the events that occurred. His denial is shaped into OMORI and headspace, and all the repressed memories are represented as black space. AUBREY is anger because her loneliness and her friends' refusal to support each other had manifested into rage. She hides behind a veil of carelessness to conceal her true feelings about the situation. BASIL is bargaining because of his deal with SUNNY (to always look out for each other) and his constant hope that everything will be okay. Nothing turns out his way though, as SUNNY becomes a shut-in and the SOMETHING's screams get louder and louder. HERO is depression because of his total lack of motivation after the incident. He becomes shrouded in thoughts of guilt and grief, with the ideas that if he just tried a little harder, everything could have been fine, though this is obviously not true. KEL is acceptance, as he is the one who moved on with life the fastest. While he definitely still feels sorrowful, he can accept that nothing can change the past. Even when his friends start drifting away, he copes by gaining new friends and reconnecting.

Acceptance isn’t always healthy and soothing it can be accepting something happened and moving on because it’s all they know to do instead of actually healing, it’s not denial either it’s more like saying “yeah that happened but I’m just going to move on and hope I heal”

This is really good and well edited. All characters fitting with these different stages is great, and the animations they do during the listed “stages” are cool too (I especially liked Basil’s shifty blinking).

I don’t think Kel’s acceptance should be as happy as the everyone has acceptance end. Honestly he’s the one I see the most bottled up with emotions, having been not able to process things and not being able to show his emotions as easily as the others, and trying to be the light and trying to plainly ignore it. Honestly he’s the one character I think we haven’t gotten full closure on of all the main characters of OMORI, never letting those emotions out.

I went through all five stages when my dog died i went into a deep depression for a month, he was with me for my entire life and he sadly passed away at the age of 15.

Oh, and with me having all of those with grief, because I have all of them apparently, and I have trouble with my emotions I end up just having all of those not all at once, but sometimes they probably will be all at once, but then all of a sudden, all of that mixed up inside me turns into nothing and then I end up blanking out meaning I can’t feel anything like I have no feelings at all like I’m just a blank statue just waiting for someone to help me up….

I had lost my mother at the age of 9 ,I was lost in these stages of grief and now that I am okey I would say I have been to all these stages and now I have accepted the fact that she is no more and I need to do things all by myself...I need to trust nobody and never seek for this unconditional love cause nobody can love you like she did. There are so many lessons I have learned after her death and till this date it's difficult to consume those. But I still hope I can do better in life and live an independent and happy life.

I really like Kel for a few reason. The most obvious being that he's super fun, and just best boy But the whole real life part of the game just couldn't have happened without him. He's the one who finally got Sunny out of his house, after all.
