AS2870 have raft slab and strip footing table , can you more clear when i can select raft or strip footing please as i am little bit confuse. thanks your video aawesome
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus 10 ай бұрын
My interpretation is that strip footings are usually for masonry walls and they run underneath the slab (tied or not to the slab). A raft would be a single stiff element. This is how I see it.

Amazing video thank you. May I please ask 1) if the concrete floor is going to to have a grind and seal, what is the minimum specifications you'd recommend. Could you get away with N25. 2) how much extra thickness do you specify for a polished concrete slab compared to a standard?
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus 9 ай бұрын
I would up to N32 at least. The price won't change much and you will have a better finished product. SL82 mesh, but SL81 is ideal. Cure the slab with plastic for 7 days. Top cover around 35mm. Have a look at CCAA polished concrete guidelines if you're unsure.

Hi thanks for your videos. I have a project, 600 edge beam however below the edge beam the engineering drawing show 400mm min blinding concrete to original soil with 100kpa bearing capacity. Should do 2 pours for this? Should I install the vapors above the blings? Thank you
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus 8 ай бұрын
typically 2 pours and the blinding layer can be of lower concrete grade (refer to your engineering drawings). vapours can be above. What type of soil do you have?

@@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus great thank you. Class M, But soft fill is observed top 1m...
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus 8 ай бұрын
@@ningchen6242 footing depths are typically between 300 and 400 for class M depending on the type of construction. I would have done some backhoe pits or piers to go through the fill. The blinding layer works as well, but you may end up using more concrete.

My off the plan house builder is going with M-class slab for p class site 85mm thick 20mpa waffle pod slab for a double storey house. My worry is M slab okay? Builder offered only minimum 6 years structural warranty. Do you suggest anything I can do or say to builder now as only the piering done as of now.
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus
@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus 3 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, firstly you need to look at the soil test and understand why the site has been classified as P. It could be due to presence of trees, soft soils etc. Class P may not necessarily be bad. Possibly the expected surface movement of you site is for class M, hence the reason your engineer designed the M-class slab. If you are unsure, email your engineer.

@@bengthebrazilianengineerinAus Bit concern about having M-class slab design by structural engineer on a p class site, usually seen them specifying H class slab. Interestingly the block behind mine has the same model house (80% completed) has H class slab but for ours the same engineer specified M-class. Read few horror stories about slab heave and our warranties is only 6 years. What are the preventative measures that can be taken to avoid slab heave issues? Read that concrete apron around does help? Thanks mate, your video was very informative. As an engineer myself, I appreciate & feels good when educating people on fundamentals which can help them in real life.
