Today I'm sharing my own personal views when it comes to selecting children's books. Over the years, we have taught our girls these steps for choosing books according to our households' morals, values, and beliefs. Let me know some of your stops for reading for your children.

I pray I was able to express my thoughts, about book content and what we teach our girls, in a clear manner. Gods word leads our home and we prepare them for many things in life however, some things we choose to wait for various reasons. Let me know your thighs in the comments. Thanks for watching! ❤️

Thank you for this video! I agree 100%! More if that is an option. 😂 We are definitely in the midst of on-the-job training. Another thing we’ve had to discuss is the fact that we don’t just read (or watch or play) something because another Christian homeschool family does. Some families are fine with watching rated R movies with their 11 year olds. We are not. Some families are fine with their children reading books that celebrate things we are not okay with. Like you, we depend on reasoning skills alongside spiritual discernment (also a skill to be practiced!). We have two teens and a few younger kids. So far this approach has been great for us. I love that our kids bring things to us that they think we need to talk about.

Great video!!! We parent like this as well! Children now a days are overly exposed to things that they are not ready for!

Hi Morgan! Yes, I'm right with you - we approach things with our kids very similar to you guys. We've had a rough year with our church youth group... that's all I'll say about it. But lots of real life lessons happened this year with my 8th grader, but I'm so glad we could counsel her on how to handle some tough situations! Books have been one of the hardest aspects of parenting for me in general. So many hidden agendas and tricky books... it makes me so angry. Now that they are both teens, they have been exposed to so much appropriate literature that they now know if something is wrong, and they will bring it to me. I'm proud to be at that stage, but the conversations are ALWAYS ongoing!

This was great! I haven’t even considered the “learn as you go”. I kind of assumed that these are all conversations I need to have ahead of time, but your approach on a topic by topic basis makes sense. (My oldest is 5 so we’re just entering this world).

People can be so rude! Don't ever tell me what I should be doing with MY kids! You handled that so well! Why is public school always the standard? It's a TERRIBLE standard! GOD is our standard, and I will settle for no less! UGH... that got my BP up - LOL.

We were doing a read aloud and one sentence within the last 3 pages was content that was not appropriate, was not relevant to the story nor needed to be in that particular book. Thankfully, I saw it and skipped it. But still, I don't understand the reason behind that.

I think I know exactly what book you're talking about. 😩 I heard about it and it is one of the reasons I get anxious when choosing a new book.
