I ordered this for this upcoming school year as well and I’m hoping it helps with note taking as it’s one of our major focuses this year. Thanks for sharing the inside, I’m sure that’ll help a lot of people by seeing the inside of this curriculum.

Yes! you were speaking to my heart! These are really great topics of discussion. We live in a state that does not interfere with the way we home-school...we don't have to take state tests, we don't have to use the public school's curriculum, but we also don't have an Education Savings Account available to pay for our own curriculum and laptops. So not only are we continuing to pay taxes for public school ( which I have never had a problem with- bc my kids were in public school) but like you we are a single-income family and it is a struggle to buy all the curriculum needed and not to mention putting the children in sports and activities. This is something else we no longer have access to. It sort of feels like a punishment at times that we have chosen to take our kids out of public school. I believe another thing not discussed in home-schooling communities is that sometimes its exhausting when our kids are taking too long to do school work. Yes it's great that they are not rushed, but reality is that they still have to do things in a timely manner. We are preparing them for adulthood and although it may be okay for them to take more time on work, they don't have an endless amount of time. (This could just be a me problem?)

Love this, homeschool is so expensive.... I use reewards for positive behavior I buy sticker reeard charts for each child and after 30 stars they get something theu really want... Currently my kids like VBucks ( a $25 gift card) To get a star they must finish all their homeschooling for the day. My kids are very motivated to get their star. If behavior was more challenging I would make the tangible reward more accessible (i.e. smaller intervals).

I would say if you use all of the components (spell, vocab, reading Comp, and grammar) for the 3 weeks, it’s not overwhelming. It can be if you continue with too many other ELA components. It was fun for me to do this with my girls!

We have used IEW on and off for several years and I agree with the mixed reviews. For one child, he needs the structure and clear expectations of IEW. My other two don't like how involved it is. My son who uses it doesnt love it, but it is the best program for him. My best advice is that it is A LOT, so do not feel bad if it takes longer than a week once you get to longer assignments. One level tends to take my son 1.5 years to complete, and i am ok with that. He works a little more slowly, and writing is his biggest struggle, but if he is consistently making progress, the extra time needed does not matter. IEW suggested this approach to us, slow it down if needed, make it challenging but not overwhelming.

So many great choices! I love Mosdos, but for some reason my kids do not😅 I am determined for them to try again. We use literature based, but find if we get behind in the book reading we get off track. I love Mosdos is short stories so it is easier to keep on track. We didnt usually do the writing parts. Just vocab, the literary elements, etc. I hooe your daughter enjoys, it really is rich and wonderful. Fingers crossed mine will come around to it next year when we try again.

Easy Grammar Teacher's Editions are meant to be photocopied for the stidents to complete the worksheets. It's not interended for them to complete in the book, next to the answer key. The first page has a blip about reproduction permission for noncommercial use only. Just wanted to let you know, even though this video is older, in casw you want to use upper levels later on. Having said this, I still purchase the Student Workbook because I don't always want to copy stuff. It was worth my time to buy them preprinted, but I'm only using it for my last child. If I were planning to use for multiple children, I'd make copies. Thank you for a detailed close up of Grade 5. We finished Grade 4, amd I was wondering if Grade 5 would be too redundant or if it builds incrementally enough to warrant using Grade 5 next.

I love all these topics you cover. I am ending my first year homeschooling with my 5th grader. Looks like we will be changing to Saxon 7/6 for next year which really is why im here...your oldest is a yesr ahead of mine so im sort of folloeing your math pathway. Otherwise i was looking at horizon, which i think you looked at in the past. Im super curious to see what your schedule looks like.
@LifeofTillmans
@LifeofTillmans 16 күн бұрын
I definitely think Saxon 7/6 was the better option when I compared it to Horizons 6, which seems to be more of a review of what my middle daughter had already learned from doing levels 4 & 5. We decided not to do Horizons past level 5. She will be moving into Saxon as well. My oldest daughter really loved Saxon 7/6! It was a huge growth year for her when it came to math. I’ll also be doing a planning video soon. 😀

We just completed SS1B. We started in 6th grade and completed it in 7th. My son's writing improved and it gave him great writing tips. My advice is to take your time. The videos can be long. It took us two years purposely because my son used a timer. After 30 minutes he could be done with the lesson for the day. There's a lot of video pausing because they write during the video. The timer helped a lot! My son also liked his jokes but he's an old soul so he understands dry humor. This year we're going to try EIW just to compare the two. Overall it was a great experience and I recommend it.

I would also love to see an in-depth flip through of the student workbook. I hear that it’s very different from the Pearl level, which we have, so I’m curious about that. I’ll be interested to hear how you get along with the teacher guides. They were way too “classroom-y” for me, so I didn’t use them.
