As a person who's taken many bear safety courses for jobs and lived in bear country all my life it is not a good idea to ever run away from a bear.They can run faster than any person can. If you see a black bear make yourself look larger by stretching your arms up and if it ignores you slowly back away facing it. If it charges you then you should remain still with your arms up. It is most likely a false charge (runs up to you but stops about 2 ft away) to test if you'd run. If you face away or trip infront of the bear it will see that as an oppertunity to attack. If it pushes on the ground roll on your back and cover your neck. If the bear is trying to kill you and you have no other option but escape,never climb a tree or run on a flat ground instead look for a steep hill to run down once at the bottom run far away. Bears take a few minutes climbing down steep hills and often avoid it. If no hills are near you and it is chasing you your pretty fucked you could try to throw food at it to distract it but at that point it probably isn't hungry and just wants to kill you. Another option is to attack it with a stick or weapon. But to avoid bear ecounters completely bring bear mace, dogs with bells, or a bear whistle, don't bring that could attract bears and avoid areas with bear scratches in trees and possible bear dens

Captain Sparky because it is illegal to use a weapon or kill a bear without a license where I live? Also if your just hiking it is pretty ridiculous to bring a gun into a national park instead of just using bear mace

its not illegal when the bear trys to kill u. that would be self defense and im pretty sure thats not illegal. doesnt matter where u live
@joshvoelkner5261
@joshvoelkner5261 7 жыл бұрын
Just checked and yes it can be illegal to kill a bear out of season even in self defense (in Canada where i live) but if you report to a conservation officer or ranger you can be tried and most likely won't be punished drastically. Another issue when shooting a bear is if you dont kill it it will might become aggressive in a situation where it was just defending it's territory. Also in certain work areas where you are at risk of encountering a bear like tree planting or firefighting you are not allowed to carry a weapon like a gun. Lastly guns might not kill a bear and can put you at risk but if bear pepper spray almost never fails and is more effective and you dont run the risk of being in trouble with the law. (ps laws can be and are different in different areas [in the usa it's legal] so it's up but id recommend bear spray instead)

Sombra really?? Seriously? Special ed shark? That was an incredibly ignorant argument.
@euroliis706
@euroliis706 7 жыл бұрын
I think the joke went over your head. Someone said you should run, but if you find a shark in the ocean, there is no way you're swimming faster than it. I said the only way to do it was if the shark was in Special Education, because the internet views people in Special Education as stupid, and only a stupid shark would either miss a prey/threat/whatever it sees the human as that causes it to attack it in plain sight or swim in such an innefective way that a human (a creature whose hands and feet were not made for specialized swimming) is able to outspeed it (a creature that has fins and lives in the water, therefore being able to easily manuever underwater). Got my argument now?
@billydavis150
@billydavis150 7 жыл бұрын
Never under any circumstances should you run from any charging bear. Running may turn a false charge into an actual attack and at any rate, you will never out run a bear.
@billydavis150
@billydavis150 7 жыл бұрын
The general rule-of-thumb is if you're charged by a brown/grizzly bear to drop to the ground, place your hands behind your neck and widen the stance of your legs to make it more difficult for the bear to turn you over. If its a false charge the bear will turn away at the last second. If its a legit charge and its going to attack, youre in the best physical position you can be to protect yourself while playing dead. These bears are usually known to abandon their attack when they've determined you're not a threat (e.g. dead). If they don't stop attacking then fight using whatever weapon you can find. Aim your strikes to the bear's facial area, specifically it's eyes and snout. If charged by a black bear, make yourself appear taller and yell. If a black bear attacks, playing dead usually won't work. Fight back. Black bears have been known to abandon their attack when it's victim fights back. You will never outrun a bear unless you're an Olympic runner and happened to be getting attack on a track. That being said, everything is circumstantial.. if you're attack outside your house that's twenty feet away.. well, I'd be making a run for it. If you're hiking in the smoky mountains, don't run.

if you're preparing to defend yourself, bear spray is the way to go. Designed for the sole purpose of deterring an angry anything, and it makes a much wider spray greatly increasing your chances of contact. I've heard of bears taking far more devastating 30-06 and .338 win mag rounds and continuing their charge at least temporarily.

U don't have to outrun the bear in a 100 metre track. U are the runner, u have the advantage of changing directions and planning in advance where u have to go. Bears have large bodies so they will abandon the chase once u start changing direction rapidly. I have seen that many times where I come from.

I love how he said "sometimes". Encountering a bear is very dangerous, and you're most likely going to get mauled. "Playing dead" "Tip toeing away" "Making yourself look bigger" and that nifty "bear spray" is not a 100% solution. Read the situation carefully, act cautiously, remember these "tips"('cause they help, but they don't solve your problem), and hope for the best!

Sharks of all species and sizes hate prey that fight back, it is as simple as biting its nose if underwater or punching it in the eyes your being dragged while on the surface. Sharks also prefer meatier prey so your more likely to have a shark bump into you to test how fat you are than it attacking. Plus majority of shark attack cases involve the shark just having a taste before letting go of the victim.

My grandfather lives near a forest in Maryland. He told me, when I was little, that hikers should always carry pepper spray and wear little bells when they hike in bear country. How do you know that you're in bear country? Check for droppings. They smell like pepper and have little bells in them.

if you play dead when a grizzly bear attack's you won't he try to eat you still?
@kellyr95

Sometimes - yes if it is a predatory rather than defensive attack. If you surprise the bear and especially if it has cubs it is more likely a defensive attack. If the bear follows or attacks your tent it is most likely a predatory attack in which you should not play dead but fight for all you are worth.
@laya8880
@laya8880 7 жыл бұрын
The logic behind it is that if it does attack, you're fucked. So your best option is to protect your head and neck. My dad knows a guy who survived this way. One of his arms was broken and he was ripped all to hell, but he managed to weather it out and get to a hospital.

The black bear one is also false. Not even Usain Bolt can outrun a bear and bears are extremely good at climbing trees so that's useless as well. With a black bear you're basically fucked.

N°1) First off, venom, uncontrary to poison, needs to be injected into the bloodstream to carry it's effect but it's impotent when ingested into the mouth straight to his way into the stomach (excepted when wounds are present in the mouth.) Second off, since the bloodstream is connected to the whole body through the heart, once venom is injected by biting it is impossible to prevent it from further progressing into the body as long as the heart beat. The only theoretical method of "protecting" yourself from a venom bite would be by using a piece of cloth or anything that could be used as a belt to be tightened around the base of the affected limb, as to shut down the blood circulation and thus stopping the venom from spreading. And i emphasize the term "theoretical method" because, at best, you got a couple of second to carry that out and, in the heat of the moment, when you've got a creature with sharp long fangs biting deep into your flesh, rationnal survival thinking becomes pretty much a foreign concept. N°5) Sharks are fishs. And like any fish, they suffocate when air is blowing into their gil - it is akin for humans to having water poured into their lungs. Though dangerous and difficult to pull out, it is more practical than clawing at it with human nails which would simply result in making it even madder. Also, despite being predators, Sharks are not overly aggressive creatures. They're "professionnal" hunters : they'll first look forward to ascertain the nature of the objects in their vicinity, differenciating living things from objects, animated or not, before going on the attack. Sharks have bad eyesight and relies more on heir sense of smell and touch to find out preys. The nose in particular is a very sensible part of their anatomy that acts like a second tongue, probbing the thing they hit it with as to differenciate what they can eat from what they cannot when they find something that doesn't move in the water, like we'd use a stick to see if something is dead by poking it. That is why, though you could send a rubber ring/life preserver in at a location filled with Sharks in unturbulated waters, they'll never attempt to eat it because they'll find out that it doesn't move and it's texture isn't flesh. As such, if you spot a Shark away from you, *do not make any sudden move* and instead try to take out everything and anything metallical and/or artificial upon you, as slowly as possible, and hold it in front of the Shark's nose for it to sense it, but also take EXTRA care as not a single part of your flesh touches it (otherwise you're as good as dead.) IF done correctly (i insist on the "IF") the Shark will take you for an inanimated object and not potential food and will simply be swimming away from you. And before someone replies me with comments of the likes of _"that doesn't sound like those methods are very reliable at all"_ , i'll answer : who, in their right fucking mind, would either go into a forest trip filled with venomous creatures *_without_* any form of proper medical preparation, or go swimming at sea *_without_* consulting the local rescuers' bulletin to see if there's any danger they should know about and/or be looking for before going !?

I have read that "playing dead" when face with a grizzly bear only works when actually being attack and just falling down would have little effect. But running won't work but backing away, nose, and large numbers will deter a bear.

Here's advice from the National Park Service: www.nps.gov/subjects/bears/safety.htm . Note that it says there is no single strategy that works in every situation. I have encountered bears before, and I found that walking away slowly and calmly worked. But as the Park Service says, there is no guarantee of safety.

For a snake bite its best to encourage bleeding, or to use a form of tourniquet to prevent the poison from spreading from the site where you were bitten. A snake bite is also much more likely to inject the venom intramuscularly, not intravenously so it is not going straight into the blood stream. Holding you hand close to, or below heart level is going to do jack sh*t. Your feet being below your heart doesn't stop blood from flowing all the way back up, so it wont work with your hands either. Avoiding raising your heart rate will reduce spreading though, which might be difficult because you're probably panicking about being bitten by a snake.

1:18 do not try to RUN they can run up to 30 miles per hour and they like the cardio as well as climbing tress so don’t do that either. Wave you hands and yell to assert dominance if it howls back don’t flinch keep going make yourself bigger. And don’t look at Its eyes if it does attack you and doesn’t back out aim for its eyes and snout don’t punch it their claws are better weapons use anything you have to get and advantage

If you get lost in the woods or any other secluded area remember the rule of fours On average, you can last about: 4 minutes without air (ability to breath) 4 hours without heat (shelter and fire) 4 days without water (fresh drinking supply) 4 weeks without food (fresh and edible food)

when in the wilderness, food is very important; without food you are left without energy, without energy all you can really do is sit around awaiting starvation. Food is actually a bit more important than water.

In Any bear encounter try to look bigger then the bear, like grab a big stick and wave it in the air and make a lot of noise. Also to prevent getting attacked by yourself in the wild you should make loud noise every couple minutes to let any bear know that your coming or else they will get startled and make a great effort to hurt you/defend themselves

For the first one about snake venom, all it could do is give the wound an infection. It actually wouldn't matter if the venom got in your mouths. This is because venom has to enter the blood stream to do anything. So just ingesting it wouldn't do anything.
