The Audi R8 V10 is certainly quite an awesome sportscar/supercar, with a mid-engined layout, 5.2L naturally aspirated V10, 7 speed DCT and exotic styling, the R8 is a brilliant all around car. BUT, it is not quite perfect. Having been fortunate to own 2 R8s now and driven numerous different generations, body styles, powertrains and more, I have a good amount of experience with the platform. So here are 5 things that I hate/strongly dislike about my R8! Yes, some are minor, but this is meant to be a fun video discussing some of the aspects that aren't all amazing, some more in depth insight into what an R8 is really like to own!

appreciate the candid perspective, sports exhaust was an option on the RWS, but very few opted for it...at least you got the 20 inch wheels which gives it a much better look.

Technically you shouldn't need blind spot monitoring if you set your review mirrors right

Imagine if someone put the older 5.0 even firing v10 from the Pre LP Gallardo and Twin Turboed it ( Throwback to the Le Mans Quattro) . At least UGR (ig) did a manual swap for an R8.

Glad that you pointed out you are nit picking here. I was lucky and picked up my 2018 Plus right before the prices went crazy, best purchase ever. I have the sport exhaust but it really could use some extra volume. The blind spot indicators are a non-issue for me. The B&O system sounds decent but I typically leave it off when driving.

I have blind spot monitors in my 2014 S4, it's crazy it's not in a 2nd gen R8. And I agree about the specialness of the RWS being taken away by the 3rd gen some. Audi makes odd decisions sometimes lol overall sweet car and I can't wait to hear it with exhaust and tune!

Nice vid. I hated the non buckets and steel suspension in my v10+. Made me sell the car. I definitely miss the platform tho and want a performance with buckets and mag ride for my garage at some point.

Got RWD 2020, missing better paddle shifters, better sound (opf filter) and probably slide in/out central display (like previous gen of A6), overall still good value/performance ratio.

Coming from a 991.1 GT3 the RWS feels luxurious to me. I didn’t have CarPlay, backup camera, and worried about hitting the nose even with the lift kit. With the VF Engineering ECU/TCU you’ll basically make Huracan Performante power(630hp). All said, I think these cars are a bargain considering you can’t even order an R8 now. Especially if you can get one fully serviced and certified.

Hi EddieX -- I've seen all your great videos on the Audi R8, and over the years I've been quite a car/driving enthusiast (performance, handling , refinement, functionality, reliability, etc.). But tell me...why is having a loud exhaust "sound" or "noise" so important? Does that in any way make the car perform or feel better? Is it that important to "wake up the neighborhood" with a loud, ostentatious sound? A few years ago I had a 2013 S8, which I later traded-in for a new 2020 S5 Sportback. Audis have always been known for being elegantly/classically "understated" in terms of styling, and likewise, more controlled, and "buttoned-down" in terms of handling and flat-out driving experience (at least compared to BMW and Mercedes). Quattro vs. RWD. More controlled and "on rails" performance & handling vs. the wild and visceral RWD feel of a comparable BMW or Mercedes. And this applies to the "exhaust note" as well. Quieter and more "subdued" (with supercar handling & performance) is better than being ostentatiously loud with the exact same handling & performance. For example, the Audi S8 is the ultimate "Uber Stealth Assassin"..."Walk softly, and carry a BIG STICK" (Teddy Roosevelt). However, I totally agree with you about the missing side view blind spot feature, as well as the missing front lift feature. I would love to hear your response. Thanks!

@@ZacharyDeanWright I hear you, Zachary. But the plain and simple truth is that a car engine’s “loudness” does absolutely NOTHING to improve the car’s road handling, performance, comfort, refinement, reliability, etc. On the other hand, a car engine’s “quietness” adds to its feeling of refinement, quality, and reliability. “Loudness”…for its own sake…strongly suggests a juvenile, “Hey, look at me” phallic symbol on the part of the driver/owner of the car. And especially nowadays…with super-quiet and super-fast EV’s increasingly on the horizon…”quieter” is definitely better than “louder”. But I DO understand exactly what you mean. If “disturbing the peace” with a loud car engine is what turns you on, then so be it! As the old saying goes, “To each his/her own”!

to many people, sound is one of the big parts of the automotive experience. Think about why formula 1 is way more exciting to watch than formula e. Sound.

@@EddieX Yes, I get it! But as I mentioned earlier, I owned a 2013 S8 which I traded-in seven years later (in mint condition and with only 54K miles) for a 2020 S5 Sportback, so I’m an Audi fanboy, for sure. I remember with my S8 I loved the deep, authoritative rumble of that 4.0L twin-turbo, 520hp engine when I started it up. But once I was on the road I relished its stealth, “under the radar” supercar demeanor and performance - the quintessential “Uber stealth assassin”. It’s one thing to hear a nice rumble when you fire-up a car. But once you’re on the road, any unnecessary “loudness”...for its own sake...is just obnoxious and juvenile. What really counts is road handling, performance, comfort, and convenience…not “loudness”. BTW, Formula E was introduced in 2014. And in 2014, Formula 1 switched from the extremely loud and inefficient V12 engines to quieter and more efficient V6 hybrids. As a fellow RWS owner agree on all your points. In particular the exhaust! Stock was no fun. Added a Kline exhaust and took the car to supercar levels. I have a 2022 on order, Im curious to hear the B-Rogue valved and your experience with it. While my 22 has the sport exhaust, I doubt it will be loud enough for me! Here are videos of my RWS with Kline if you want to get an idea of what you have took look forward to! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m7Kpm8Z91qybkZs.html

@@EddieX that’s what I had read from a shop tech on forums, going based on his word and the fact that resonance of material feels super different than the other plastic bits on the car. Also, very much agree on the exhaust point. Had an exhaust heat shield shim die at 5k miles (chirping ensued from left rear). Shop offered to do an exhaust swap while bumper off, maybe you’ll be lucky to run into that issue and it’ll save you some labor!
