I love this bike! Easy to manage, fast, fun and perfect for tall people like me.

I have never understood why anyone needs a fuel gauge. I have a 1996 fireblade, I know 110miles on the trip meter means find a petrol station. Likewise with my cb750f2n 150 miles is fill-up time. Both are around 35-40 mpg. I don't need to plan a trip, just turn the little knob on the cluster. Plus bikes usually have a tank range that suits their comfort level, so when you feel it's time to get off, that is time to fill up.

Nice review. I reckon this is the best everyday do-it-all bike 4-5k can buy in todays markets anywhere in Europe… bargain. And bulletproof unlike any early GS1200 which are shambolic in reliability terms.

I have one from 09 , am 6'2 & find the bike has best stability at high speed, been up to Mount Brinchang Cameron Highlands Malaysia, a 6700 ft above sea level, going up on this treacherous rocky road, excellent ABS system on any dry & rainy condition, I changed mine to Arrows pipes , reduce weight quite a bit, very good reliability of Honda

I don’t agree with any of your points. I have a 1999 Varadero, I fitted a givi tall screen which I can still comfortably have clear vision and I can ride with my helmet visor up and nothing hits my face. Secondly the fuel consumption was always around 44 when it was new and now with 40k plus miles on it it now regularly exceeds 50 mpg. The bike is heavy but once on the move it handles brilliantly and have had no trouble staying with and passing sports bikes on twisties. I have fitted slightly stiffer springs in the forks which give excellent feedback what the front wheel is doing. And finally it does have a low fuel warning light and as others have said you don’t need a fuel gauge on a motorbike. My first chain lasted 40k and only had to eventually change it because there was a section which had elongated more than the rest. Bikers are now spoilt with gadgetry and have lost the sense of adventure and want everything handed to them on a plate. Get a life is the new saying hurled at me from younger folks and I suggest politely of course that it applies to you. Thanks for dialogues.

I've had my 2008 varadero from new. Still ride it to work 4-5 months of the year and still love it. Its got a 25l fuel tank that returns 200 plus miles, that's roughly 45mpg. That's not bad for a massive bike. Nobody needs a fuel gauge, you know when to fill up. It's a cracking bike when you know how to ride it properly! 😁

Bull on the fuel I can get easy 200+ miles out of a tank buy an after market screen and who needs a fuel gauge you’ve got a trip meter ffs work out how far you can go on a tank then when you fill up it’s easy to set trip meter to zero

Mine has a light on the dash telling me when it needs fuel .why does anyone want to look through two pieces of plastic the screen and your visor when its raining i took the big screen off and put the original back on .dosnt this guy know a light comes on then you have about forty miles to find a filling station . Great reliable bike bumlux seat and its great if you have long legs .should have been shaft driven

Yes it is a heavy bike but it is also tall and for someone 6f5in that is excellent. Just don't get these comments about fuel consumption. I get 45mpg out of mine and that is fine for me. Windscreen , fair point so I changed mine and the new one is great. Price; they sold plenty of them new and mine was £3,500 with 18k miles on the clock. I ride around the Yorkshire and Durham Dales all the time and it is fine. I guess it might be wayward at the limit but that is a stupid thing to do anyway.

To give you some perspective this bike needs 7-8 litres per 100kms(price of fuel now in Greece is 1.75 ) in money it's around 12-13euros. My 2.500 cc suv which weighs more than 2 tons (4500lbs) uses 8-9 litres of petrol (1.35 euros per litre ) in money that's 11-12 euro . This bike burns more money than a massive jeep and that is just absurd.

@@user-jk3dz2st7u My Varadero returned 6.1 litres per 100km last year and there is a massive difference between a jeep and a Varadero in capital cost, depreciation, insurance, road tax etc. What bike would do better than a Varadero then?
@user-jk3dz2st7u
@user-jk3dz2st7u 2 жыл бұрын
@@richardparkersmith4810 Well most varaderos run above 7 litres with spirited riding if you are very conservative maybe it is possible.If you use your bike to have fun a varaderos will burn a shit ton of fuel waaay more than 6 litres . 1000cc bikes are definitely not fuel efficient only the bmw r series are truly fuel efficient with big engine displacement. A Suzuki vstrom 650 or a bmw g650 gs those are economical bikes . In Greece varaderos models 2003-2006 are going for 2000-3000 euros (some even 1500 if carbureted ) and I know this bikes are great overall but they sell them so cheap because they use more fuel than a car ... Also I never said that in overall cost my Jeep is cheaper it is not but it is in fuel Wich shouldne be the case with a bike . I like the varadero it was the first bike that I ever got (I was a kid my uncle gave me I ride) but with the cost of fuel it is cheaper to buy the varadero as a second bike(use it for my Long trips only) on top of my other one (my beginner bike) than to change bikes.

@@user-jk3dz2st7u My bike has fuel injection and 6th gear and I ride it how I choose in the Yorkshire Dales and on long motorway journeys. It is a very capable and economical bike.

Only 3 negatives I found in the 2 Fi Varaderos that I've owned are : Chain drive, I'd much rather have a shaft. A chain broke on me once years ago & I'm a bit uncomfortable with them ever since. Non self cancelling indicators, this is just an irritation. My other bikes all have self cancelling indicators & so now I'm used to it. It's boring, the bike is so typically Honda reliable and efficient that it is very bland. A good bike should stir your soul. Varaderos are about as character filled as a kettle.

Me thinks you should give up riding motorcycles and get a car. 🙄 Bikes only used to have a speedo and maybe a tachometer and that’s it. You had a gas tap with a reserve position on it. You run out, switch over and find a gas station. Next you’ll be wanting rain wipers. Totally useless review.
