That Dakar Yellow color is beautiful.

The engine choice was due to cost. Not emissions related. It was a pure business decision. Have you driven the euro? It's not really any quicker below 100mph. The difference between the two is massively overhyped on the internet. 0-60 between them is almost identical. And both get smoked by a kid in a rusty 135i. The original m3 only had 195hp and was considerably slower than the us spec e36 m3. Dont see any complaints there.

I have a gorgeous ‘95. EVERYTHING you said is absolutely correct. Fucking door handle. Panels. Shitty radiator. Car does better with good headers, a Supersprint exhaust, and a CAI. It’s way more involving than the E46 though. Get a ‘95 (S50) and lookout!

for that door problem, i had that exact problem, try putting some wd40 in the door jam or actuator whatever you call it, and open and close the door repeatedly and it should work back to normal! p.s. itll make a mess so be sure to clean it

The reason the US got a lesser M3 isn't emissions related, or at least not solely related to that, it's actually both price and maintenance related. Americans want their cake and eat it too, they want an M3, aka a sports car, but they don't wanna pay a lot for the car, or pay a lot to maintain it, you know, valve adjustments, vanos filters, etc Plus there's the competition, it's so cheap to get in a powerful RWD car in the US, like a Mustang or a Camaro, so you can't come up with something that was twice the price and probably slower or barely as fast, so they figured out they'd make it even slower but at least make it more price competitive.

The first thing you mentioned you hate about e36’s Is creaking and cracking and things falling off It’s 20 years old man! 😂 what did you expect ? P.s. second thing will be your door shut needing adjusted up the way. Not the physical door hinge but the catch on the B pillar 👍

door not opening is a bad door handle. Had the same issue and the door handle fell apart soon after and needed a replacement

anyone else think the us-36s get a bad rap? their motors are simpler, they were significantly less expensive, almost $20,000 depending on how you google and count ... seems to me like the euro-36 has some of the complexity that is maligned in 46. i'm no expert, and have only driven one of the three cars mentioned.

The handle which is sticking is going to eventually break. It's going to need replacing since BMW made the lever of the handle out of some cheap material.. It's a bitch to replace but you don't have a better option.

Now I’m here with my 94 hellrot and tbh that’s it for me. Aside from the cheap materials the feeling serviceability modability and feel I’ve found my happy place. But I will say if it had the V10 with a manual trans would be insane but I’m poor so there’s that 😂 8:56

I think you might issues with your engine, I just bought an 99 E36 M3 and its fast as all hell, as fast or more than my E46 M3 was and more like my M5 v10. Also you mentioned they are noisy inside? mine is quiet like a mouse. Could be your car was abused before you got it.
