True. But it could be temporary until the Roman executioners nailed one's feet to the pole and supplied the _sedile excessus,_ the projecting seat of shame, so that when the crucified slumped, he would be supported at crotch level with a complete degrading of his dignity.

@@stevecinneide8183 Unless it was an impaling stake then they would have driven it into him upon the ground and planted it upright with him on it. That was impalement, a quick and dirty crucifixion, and unless it exited one's body by the spine or shoulder without piercing or crushing vital organs, he wouldn't survive long, not even 3 hours. It was probably used a lot in the battlefield during wartime and in the arena.

I was also raised as a JW, and I find the intensity with which people care about this point so interesting. Like, the evidence seems to be that we don't actually know for sure how the crucifixion looked, but JWs and other Christians seem to view it as heresy to depict it in a fashion contrary to their respective dogmas.

Jesus is the Lamb of The God of Abraham YHVH Yehovah Jehovah Mark 16:8 In the Gospel of Mark. If the women tell no one then, Who is ! What each Gospel story is about. The four living creatures! Matthew Who was! Mark Who is! Luke Who is Coming! John The Lamb of YHVH! The four gospels are associated with the four living creatures: Matthew, the man, Mark the lion, Luke the ox, and John the eagle. John has Jesus dying on a different day. It's the Day of Preparation, not the Day of Preparation for Passover. It was the day they prepared the lambs for sacrifice. While at the same time, Jesus is prepared for sacrifice. Jesus is the Lamb of YHVH Yehovah Jehovah a man, a lion, an ox and an eagle. The man symbolises the prophet; the lion, kingship; the ox, priesthood, and the eagle, fatherhood.

0:58 This was actually a pornographic illustration of a certain male "Alkimilos" who was made effeminate by his cross and dubbed with the feminine "Alkimila". He's looking upward out of shame so he wouldn't have to make eye contact with anyone, indicating that his crucifixion was in the local arena. Another indication is the configuration of his seat: the horizontal strut is supported by a quarter-round, giving the impression of a very ample set of genitalia, and he's "riding" what appears to be a horn-shaped vertical peg that's arcing forward. (Vivat Crux Graffito, Seneca Minor, Moral Epistles 101.10-14; Virgil, Catalepton 2a.18 = The Priapeia 87; Justin Martyr, Dialogue with Trypho 91.1-2, Irenaeus, Against Heresies 4.24.4; Tertullian, Ad Nationes 1.12.3-4, An Answer to the Jews 10.7-8, & Against Marcion 3.18.3-4)

I tend to believe that Jesus was executed on a cross, since he is said to have carried his cross to the execution site. The stakes were large and likely too heavy for any one man to carry. They were usually left set up at the execution site. If prisoners carried anything, it would be the crosspiece to be affixed to the stake.

Stauros the word does not have some of the connotations "cross" which messes up some passages in C.S. Lewis.
@edwardmiessner6502
@edwardmiessner6502 Жыл бұрын
In Byzantine and modern Greek the word stauros has the exact same connotation as the English word cross. That's because Constantine had the church adopt the votive cross of the Imperial Cult and got rid of crucifixion as a penalty---Christians would have been shamed by people pointing out what crucifixion was really like. The Imperial Cult *did* have a votive cross and it was used for the funerals of the Caesars (Justin Martyr 1 Apology 55).

Mako refers to the time of Conan as "undreamed of" and further refers to himself as Conan's "chronicler" (rather than storyteller), so there is no indication that Conan was ever considered to be fictional before the modern age. Yes, some of the elements of the story have likely been embellished, but there's not a professor of Conanic studies in the world worth her or his tenure who wouldn't tell you that we can be sure that there is a core historic Conan depicted in the stories. While I understand why some a-conanists are tempted to claim he "never existed," I really think they are ultimately working against their own interests with this sort of conspiracy nonsense.

The crucifixion, like many parts of the Bible, is imagery and prophecy. Adam, the Christ, is a third-party mediator to this world and these heavens between you and your Father. In this version of the story, Jacob is seated at the table and Esau, the first-born, serves him. For who is greater: the one seated at table or the one who serves? Is it not the one seated at table? I am among you as the one who serves. (Luk 22:27 NABO) Esau, the firstborn, lives by the sword (sacrifice) and serves his brother, Jacob, who was born gripping (striking at) his heel. Isaac blessed Esau saying: Ah, far from the fertile earth shall be your dwelling; far from the dew of the heavens above! (Gen 27:39 NABO) You will not always have me (Mat 26:11 NABO) I am with you always, until the end of the age. (Mat 28:20 NAB) My kingdom does not belong to this world. (Joh 18:36 NABO) Where I am going you cannot come. (Joh 8:21 NABO) Then I took my staff "Refuge" and snapped it asunder, breaking off the covenant which I had made with all peoples (Noahic covenant) (Zec 11:10 NABO) Then I snapped asunder my other staff, "Heritage" (Deu 32:8) breaking off my brotherhood with (or between?) Judah and Israel. (Zec 11:14 NABO) the one who ascended far above all the heavens themselves (Eph 4:10 NABO) never to return to corruption (Act 13:34 NABO) "By your sword (sacrifice) you shall live, and your brother you shall serve; But when you become restive (weak; faint; infirm; a worm; man of suffering; restless; wanderer in the desert; way of the Lord in the desert), you shall throw off his yoke from your neck." (Gen 27:40 NABO) Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau! (Gen 32:12 NABO) Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, and flinging himself on his neck, kissed him as he wept. (Gen 33:4 NABO) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. (Mat 11:29-30 NABO)

I always learn something from your videos. God bless you. And the idea that the Blessed Mother remained a virgin after Yeshua was born is simply ludicrous. Of course she had normal marital relations with Joseph, and this produced Christ's siblings. Does that make her any less special? It's just like the question of whether Yeshua ever had sex.....what if He did? He was incarnated into Human form so that He could experience the entirety of the Human condition. If He had sex, would He be any less Christ?
@Andrea-xs4ny

It depends. There's no proof that he was married; thus, we'll assume that he was single. If he had sex outside of marriage, he would have been a fornicator, which is a sin, but Yeshua was sinless. There seems to be several instances of sloppy work with the translations. They are interesting, but really do not change the overall meaning. Jesus was executed at the behest of the Jewish religious leadership by the Roman government. He did die. He died by a rather ghastly form of exposure, exsanguination and stress to bodily functions by being affixed to a temporary wooden upright. Whether it was a cross in the common understanding or a tall stake or wooden pillar does not change the gruesomeness of the event. Jesus was Jewish, both from a genetic background and the religion in which He lived. Various current depictions through out history show Him as a Caucasian, asian of various backgrounds, negro and whatever. The idea He was not a Caucasian should not be strange to anyone older than about six or seven who has been exposed to the Bible in a serious form.

The title of the original video (probably a TikTok) that he's responding to is "5 Things Most Christians Don’t Know About Jesus." He's adding the question mark at the end to indicate he's skeptical of the veracity of that original vid's title, which is then demonstrated by his responses that confirm his suspicion that not everything the original video claims is true. His use of the question mark for *his* title is perfectly appropriate for the situation. Grammatical ignorance, to the extent that it's a problem, is not going to be fixed by people with sloppy reading skills.

@@RD-jc2eu If your theory is correct and he's responding to some previous post entitled "5 Things Most Christians Don't Know About Jesus," then he needs to put the question mark OUTSIDE the quotes. Then it's perfectly clear he's calling into question (literally) the title of the post he's responding to. He's a careful scholar and so should know the difference. Not sure who the "people with sloppy reading skills" refers to. I just see incorrect question mark usage all the time now, usually with a caption beginning with "How." F'r example, a video's caption might be "How to fix a tire." That is not a question but it seems many people vaguely recognize that "How" is an interrogative term, and so they unthinkingly put a question mark at the end, resulting in the absurd: "How to fix a tire?"

If "The Word of God" is supposed to be "perfect" then the Bible is NOT "The Word of God". Nevertheless, things like these are somewhat insignificant in the scheme of things. I NEVER take what the Bible says literally. The notion that God had to "correct" the Old Testament and develop a new version ("New Testament") and "Don't eat shrimp", "Don't wear clothes made of intertwined linen and wool", etc., is just ludicrous. Jesus did NOT have "super natural" powers. Jesus had radical "social ideas" that make a lot of sense.......even today.

1. The cross could have been a stake. Translation: It could also have been a cross. 2. Jesus wasn't born in a stable. It could have been more of a cave. The exact physical location of His birth isn't important for your salvation. The main point here is that He was born in very humble circumstances in the middle of nowhere, so long as it was somewhere in Bethlehem. There were shepherds in the area, so it wasn't in the suburbs. 3. Jesus was not white. Of course not. He was Jewish, of the House of David. His physical appearance was unremarkable (Isaiah 53). And he looked a lot like His disciples, which is why Judas had to kiss Him to identify Him to the Roman soldiers who came to arrest Him. 4. Jesus wasn't born on December 25. Because the Bible doesn't tell us the date. But based on that alone, there is a 1 in 365 chance that He WAS born on Dec 25. So that alone is not enough to rule it out. 5. Jesus wasn't an only child. No He wasn't but He was Joseph's FIRST child. Jesus's brothers and sisters were born to Mary, and in the normal way. She is not "ever-virgin". How do I know? Because the Bible shows two lineages for Jesus. One through Mary and one through Joseph. Mary came from the House of David, but in the line of servants. Joseph was also from the House of David, in the line of kings. You can see every king of Judah in his lineage. This is why Joseph had to die (assumed) before Jesus started His earthly ministry. If Joseph was still alive, he would be the rightful King of the Jews. Once Joseph died, the title went to his eldest son Jesus. If Jesus had an older step-brother who was born to Joseph from a previous marriage, that man would be the rightful King of the Jews, not Jesus. Deeper still: Joseph wasn't Jesus' biological father. Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit and Mary, His biological mother. He was born into the world of Man by the Holy Spirit and adopted into the line of kings by Joseph. Conversely, we are born into the world of Man biologically but adopted into the Family of God by the Holy Spirit. We have to be born again of the Holy Spirit. Jesus didn't because He was born right the first time. He was already born of the Holy Spirit. When we are born again, other Christians become our siblings. Jesus becomes our big brother, and Jehovah God becomes "Our Father, which art in Heaven". This is a family thing. So when you pray and God blesses you with an answer, God is favoring you because of nepotism. This is not a bad thing. It might sound bad, but it is very good. God loves you like His own child, which you are. And it's not at all "unfair" to the unsaved, because they have the same invitation to believe in Jesus and become part of God's family. They CHOOSE to be estranged from God by not accepting Jesus. There are two choices for Humanity. We can choose Jesus, or we can choose Hell. There is no third choice. Sadly, most people will choose Hell.

All over Europe the "BIack Madonna"(Jesus & Mary) was painted and sculptured with "bIack skin". These items are very hundreds of years old and are worshipped today. Despite what the naysayers say. Europeans believed Jesus to be bIack first and changed his race to white as Eurocentrism spread. Why do I believe this? The original ancient Egyptians were bIack. So when Joseph was older and met his brothers in Egypt, they couldn't tell him apart for the Egyptians. When Moses was described as an Egyptian after saving the ladies at the well. Samson had 7 locks of hair. The bible didn't say braided. It said locks. Only bIack hair has been known to lock up and easily become 7 locks without being touched. Paul was mistaken as an Egyptian, by a solider who was shocked he could speak Greek. Paul had to tell him he was a Jew. The soldier assumed he was a bIack Egyptian. There's a passage of the song of Solomon where someone calls themselves bIack as tents and curtains. They then say that it is because of sun on them. Naysayers will say that this person was not black and only got a tan but who would call themselves black and then compare themselves to be in black as tents and curtains. If they only got a tan from the sun. Why are these facts overlooked?🤔

Abraham was Iraqi and looked like an Iraqi today as they’ve lived there for thousands of years. Egypt and Israel have always been the crossed roads for three continents - Asia, Africa and Europe. Egypt was Roman territory and was full of Greeks and Italians 100 years BC. Anything to do with Jesus or Paul or any figure in the New Testament dealt with Egypt when it was under Italian rule and was full of people from all over - Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Syrian, Iraq, Iran, Israel - Egyptians looked like Iraqi’s today. Accurate that none of the Gospels mention December 25th as His birthdate but earlier the video said Jesus was not born on December 25. Not sure I agree with the last comment. He could have very well been born on that date, we just don't have evidence that He was.

In other videos Dan discusses how early Christians calculated Dec. 25th as being Jesus's birthdate. There was a Greco-Roman tradition that great people died on the same day they were born, but Christians changed this a little, saying that Jesus died on the same day as his conception. They calculated that the most likely date of his death was Aprl 25th, so 9 months later would be December 25th. Not exactly the method we would use today to determine someone's birthday. So sure, he could have been born on December 25th, but I wouldn't regard that date as any more likely than the other 364 days of the year.

@@PaulBoehning True, can't know without asking him directly, and none can especially if Jesus doesn't want to be seen as a god. Except that most scholars of ancient Christianity say that if anything, Jesus was likely born in May given how the stories would roll out. This is especially true if the "Bethlehem star" story (in 2 or 3 of the gospels, since Mark got stuff added to it later, and the 4th gospel says it was a Bethlehem ANGEL not just some natural star) is considered reliable/congruent with natural history. Jupiter and Venus (GodFather and Love) were seen as one together in the month of June at 2 BC. About three years earlier, around April of 5BC, there would have been a comet that was likely seen over Judea/Israel/Middle East. About five years earlier then Jup+Ven, at October of 7 BC, Jupiter and Saturn (GodFather and Sower**) were seen as one together (son "godfather" and father "sower"). ** (Saturn was Jupiter/Jove's father and Saturn was considered to be equivalent to Yahweh in the Roman's syncretism). King Herod died in 4 BC, his son did not take a dead King's name. Josephus in 96AD says that the census of Quirinus for tax-purposes occurred in 6AD. Jesus/Joshu(a) is said to be baptized by John the Baptist in the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar, so AD 28 or 29, and Book called Luke says "We don't know his exact age, but he was about 30 at the time of his baptism." Book called John says that Jesus began preaching on the 46th year of the current Temple's reconstruction, which would have placed the baptism around 27 to 28AD. All of these writers, of course, could have simply worked backward from their knowledge of various dates and made the whole thing up to occur around the times that they wanted it to occur for their particular audience, given that some Jewish sects in Iraq by the year 600AD talked about some Jesus cults that put their Jesus' birth around 170BC, not to confuse him with the Jesus/Joshua rebellion leader that the Romans killed with a catapult stone in 70AD.

His use of the question mark for his title is perfectly appropriate for the situation. Apparently, some people are too lazy to think about how rhetoric works.

130 CE? You mean 130 AD. Also, the mistranslation is that the Bible says Jesus was born in the manger, not a manger. Look at the literal translation. The manger refers to the one in which the passover lambs were placed so the levitical priests could inspect them. The shepherds weren’t ordinary shepherds but levitical shepherds tasked with guarding the passover sheep. When the angels appeared and told them they would find the baby lying in the manger, the shepherds knew both where to look and that they would find the promised messiah when they got there. Micah 4:8 gives this prophecy when it refers to the Tower of the Flock.

You left out that Jesus was a bastard . . . most likely the son of some Roman or Greek, who wouldn't, or couldn't do right, by a knocked up Mary. Since she needed a husband to avoid a scandal and dishonor, or possibly even a stoning . . . her parents came up with the idea for her to marry Old Joseph, a widower of not much account, as he was only a lowly laborer . . . someone, who normally would have no chance of marrying the prime daughter of a priest! Of course this was suspected, or known, by the people of Jesus' home village of Nazarath, and is why they referred to him in the gospel of MARK . . . as "the son of Mary", and not as "the son of Joseph." Jesus, as the grandson of a priest, was schooled in the scriptures, but had no chance of becoming a priest himself, considering the circumstances of his birth. As for all the crap in the gospels about angel visits, the virgin birth, the visit and gifts of the Magi, and so on . . . it was invented later . . . if not by Mary, then by others (perhaps the author of MATTHEW, or some of his sources.) How else does anyone explain that James only came to becoming a follower of Jesus after the crucifixion? Wouldn't he have known all along who Jesus was? That he was divine? Note that Paul seems to very ignorant about the virgin birth nonsense also! And so kiddies, that is how legends, myths, and religions come to be
