After bootcamp it was so weird having a free day off and it feels like I’m missing something important. It was weird being treated like a human being.

When I was in Army BCT, I only had one letter from my grandma, the whole time I was there. It's shitty knowing that a lot of "friends" said that they would write to me. I sent out a lot of letters, but no one sent anything back, but my grandma. Love ya, Meemaw :) After being in the Army, I know that I didn't have a single real friend prior to joining up.

I remember walking out of the barracks at Great Lakes A school donning a pair of shorts and a t-shirt for the first time. I didn't think much of it beforehand but I found myself instinctively smiling as the wind hit me differently on that sunny day. Pretty cool feeling.

I went through Navy bootcamp in 1965 (yeah, I’m OLD) then right to Hospital Corpsman A School. I did a lot of growing up in that short time & it taught me that I could achieve almost anything if I just worked hard.

I guess I was actually lucky to had RDCs that actually told us somethings. It wasn’t groundbreaking. Summer 2001 was boring af news wise. “A” school was a bit different for me because of the whole 9/11 thing and had regular class nearly the whole day until they shut down the base. But yeah most of these things are true. But you did forget to mention that military life outside boot camp is a shock as well. People actually hate being called petty officer or shipmate while not stationed on a ship yet.

Hi Nicky i’ve been watching your videos for a while now and i just want some advice about doing special warfare as a rescue swimmer. i’m 19, originally signed for MA but a recruiter told me about it and it caught my attention. i’m worries about not making the cut. ik there’s a low percentage of those who do make it. pst requirements are harder. i can barley do pull ups and i need to practice more on swimming, but it’s hard to do so during this quarantine. i feel good about the mile run and sit ups. i just don’t know if i want to actually try and see if i make it or just not even bother and waste my recruiters time :(

I have one thing to add, I was a late age booter. i went in when i was 30. For those that are also late age booters, bit of knowledge you should know. Not just for boot or A/C school but for the fleet as well. They will acknowledge your maturity level not by your age but by your rank. Meaning you could be 30-37 years old with a wife and 3 kids. But if you are an e1-e4, you cant do shit (for the most part) especially if you get OCONUS orders. Some are like oh you wanna live off base and drive in, well guess what youre and e3, nope (but im 35 years old (chief age) have a house with 3 cars and 2 kids i know about responsibilities), and they will be like i dont care you are still an e3. In there eyes e1-e3 are the age of 16-18 (maturity level), e4 is 18-21 e5 is 21-25 e6 is 25-30 e7 and up maturity level of infinity (with wsidom also) this is their logic. So just be forewarned that you will feel like they are treating you like a child because they dont see you by your age only by your rank and your rank in their eyes says you are a child.

I graduated boot camp on April 10th and finally left April 14th. I only heard from my wife and my dad. Like the weekends where the hardest part because I knew I wasn't going to get mail. The only reason we found out about stuff. Was because our chief. I mean he had to tell us in like 4-1 that we where not having a graduation so no one could come. That shit was rough on a lot of people including me. We didn't even get liberty after bootcamp either. I'm at a school right now and it felt so weird where civilian clothes lol. I'm like oh this feels weird lol.

Nicky, what is the minimum contract for Navy Reserve personnel? Thanks
@gabrielchaparro2559
@gabrielchaparro2559 4 жыл бұрын
im a reservist who came in as NAT, the contract for all sailors is 8 years (4-6 of active time and the rest IRR), but for reserve its still 8 years but 6 for active reserve. After 6 you can go IRR or just continue til your 8 is up. And then you can reenlist if you want to. So in short all reservist coming in, have a minimum 6 year obligation of active service.
