We have always homeschooled, but now that we are "roadschooling," it comes with its own set
of challenges!
We have found five significant things that are worth mentioning to anyone thinking about homeschooling or roadschooling.
In this episode, Stephanie explains how we home school in an RV and how to overcome the most common challenges.
Our most obvious challenge is space. We live in an RV. Space is limited and that gets even more complicated, the more children you have.
Siblings who are not yet in school are also a complication to homeschooling in an rv. You have to find activities for them and a place for them to do that activity in.
While being on the road, all the fun things to do can become a real distraction from our school and that is a huge obstacle.
Self doubt as a homeschooling mom is probably a challenge that all homeschool moms face but being on the road makes it even more intense for me.
And lastly, not having a community is a huge thing for us. We are learning to go solo really well but it is something that I do struggle with.
Homeschooling is not for everyone, and roadschooling certainly is not for everyone, but we love it and would not have it any other way!

I love watching videos that are realistic and shows the real life struggles. Some videos look so planned out and make situations look unrealistic and that's why I liked this video. It's good to show that you are a real person and actually going through it even during your videos. The best videos are the ones that actually can connect with others and when I saw this I was like yes that is us too and it just helped us relate. Good video! Loved it. Keep it real.

This is so helpful my husband and I live in a toy hauler with our 2 kids 1-3years old and my 3 year old is so excited to start school! It's amazing to be able to relate to the, "not doing enough" and not having the community, I'm glad I'm not alone 😅

I am an older single dad and life has lead me to living on the road. I have my son in Kahn academy but have recently been realizing that he needs more than math and grammar . So here I am looking to see what other roadschoolers are doing. I look forward to seeing what your family highlights are and getting some encouragement as i learn to be a teacher/coach. Thanks for putting this out there.

Thank you. We traveled full-time for 3 years. It was an amazing experience. We are now semi-homesteading just outside of San Antonio, Tx. We are in the process of setting up two RV sites for people traveling through. We would like to create some new videos…it’s just difficult to find the time. We learned a lot from traveling full-time. Let us know if we can answer any questions.

It is not digital but the entire language arts book includes phonics, reading, spelling, art appreciation and geography. It’s all weaved into the lessons. So even though you have books, there aren’t many! :) There is a FB group for the good & the beautiful, I highly recommend checking it out. It’s full of useful info:)

Ok so, I just found your channel by chance. You are such a cute couple and so REAL!!!! Which I LOVE! Don't ever change that! I am binge watching to catch up. I have been homeschooling my number 5 child and he graduates in May. Don't tell anyone I said this, I will deny it, but I am going to miss it! And also, I love seeing so many Christians on the road. We hope to be one day when my husband retires (he can't do his job on the road, maybe 7 years to go, maybe less). Anyway, this video right here is what has made me decide to subscribe :)

We homeschool too. I have to ask you do you plan to teach them everything kids learn in public school? I think some of the things taught aren’t needed. I find algebra to be not needed unless they go to college and if they want to go to college they can learn algebra there. What do you think about this? I struggle too with thinking we don’t do enough but I think too much is just not needed. We have 12 and 18 yr okd
@freedomcalling
@freedomcalling 4 жыл бұрын
Lisa, thanks for your comment. I plan to teach them what they need to prepare them for a good university if they choose to go. Truth be told, I'm not even sure what public schools teach now. We just go by our curriculums. We try not to measure their successes with public schools because homeschooling is such a different dynamic. For instance, most times my boys will struggle in one subject but excel in others. For this reason I might force them to repeat a subject (reading comprehension) before moving on while allowing them to move on to more complex arithmetic. It's always difficult for my kids to answer the question; "what grade are you in" because they might be two grades ahead on math but one grade behind on reading comprehension. I'd like to stick with the curriculums that we use. If they require algebra, then we'll teach it.

What coursework or apps do you use for homeschooling? I have an upcoming second grader
@freedomcalling
@freedomcalling 11 ай бұрын
Hi there! We have used a variety of things over the years but we finally settled on My Father’s World as our core curriculum. It is a classical/Christian/Charlotte Mason based program that encompasses Bible, history, geography, science, literature, spelling, and art. Then we use separate programs for different kids for math and reading. We love it mainly because it is a one room schoolhouse approach and I can teach all of my kids at the same time. Their second grade program is amazing! It’s called Adventures in US History and we used it while traveling the east coast and got to visit so many of the places we were learning about!

Homeschooling is legal in all 50 states but the rules and laws vary depending on where you are a resident of. We are Texas residents and we have very flexible laws that allow us to school our children as we choose. Happy to answer any questions!
