Honestly, i just stick to homemade herbal water for my scalp to moisturize because now a days greases and oils cause irritation to my scalp. I mainly use water or leave in and follow with shea butter to seal moisture in my hair

I love using herbal water on my hair and scalp 😍 Love using fenugreek seeds, amla, horsetail, hisbiscus, rosemary and cloves 🔥🔥

Man I was looking for this comment. Grease makes my fine low porosity hair feel like sand paper. I have been keeping it simple with aloe vera water mix, flaxseed gels or custard like gels instead of heavier creams and sealing with grapeseed oil, perhaps jbco in the winter.

Since I started paying more attention to my natural hair, I am realizing that black hair is super DELICATE, not sure where this misconception on it being hard and tough came from. I am seeing great results treating it as such

Great update. Grease/Oils act as sealants that holds the moisture given to your hair through water. Using a sealant without a cream (hidden water) is going to make your hair brittle. Our hair is fragile and loves moisture.

I kept going back and forth between LOC and LCO, not sure about the porosity of my hair. Finally I decided to go LOCO, and never looked back.

Hey Steranda I agree with all of your tips. I also trim once a year. I admittedly tend to be a bit heavy on using products, but I'm okay with it when I'm in a protective style! Thank you for sharing your personal experiences! And we love the hair style!!

Unfortunately, African hairdressers here in the UK love to blow dry (hot) on dry hair FROM the root

@@Faith-sr8zw It's not too difficult! Get an extra mirror and a nice metal rattail comb to help you part, and when twisting, twist each strand on itself before crossing and it'll work. You might have to experiment with products and such, and it does take time, but the more you practice the easier it gets. :)

I'm very light handed when it comes to product. These products are on the market or so expensive. I make my own shampoo, hair butter cream, and oil mixture. The only thing I buy now is rosewater, leave-in, deep conditioner, and heat protectant for heat styling. I use to use thick creamy deep conditioners and realized that I was going through it too fast. Now, I use a lighter consistency deep conditioner that I'm able to spread easily throughout my hair and use less. It also penatrates my hair faster.

My hair likes LCO. My hair stays braided - 6- 8wks( til I figure out a new look/style). In between washes I use LI/water/ oil spritz on hair and aloe vera/water/oil for scalp. I trim prn. Haven't done big chop in awhile so still deciding....❤❤❤

I have learned so much from your hair journey. What I've always kept in mind is to not over manipulate my hair and it doesn't take a lot of products to maintain great hair care/growth. Im seeing great results from literally using products ie mielle pom n honey shampoo, conditioner, Camille Rose moisture butter, kaleidoscope or wild growth oil and chebe JBC oil. What's your go to products lately?

10:49 What you described was HYGRAL FATIGUE and can be remedied with a protien to bring back the balance between your moisture and protein levels.
@Morenita570
@Morenita570 10 ай бұрын
Protein treatments can dry your hair back out and make it tangle up. The fatigue goes away on its on in a couple of days once you stop over hydrating your hair.
@nichie3897
@nichie3897 10 ай бұрын
@@Morenita570 Your moisture-protien balance being out of whack is what causes hygral fatigue to begin with. If you put enough protein to balance it out , you won't have an issue. If its dry...you put too much protein and now have protein overload. I guess sitting with the damage and being extra careful with the fragile hair as you wait for however long could be someone's preference, but the hair structure has been compromised and will need to be strengthened and repaired.
@Morenita570
@Morenita570 10 ай бұрын
@nichie The reason one is putting so much product in the first place is to combat the original dryness. Of course, you can over do it, but going back to the extreme end with protein treatments instead of just STOPPING over hydrating your hair until it balances itself in a couple of days doesn’t make sense. Also, labeling your now damage is ridiculous. Extra dry hair is not damaged hair and overly moisturized hair is also NOT damaged hair.
@nichie3897
@nichie3897 10 ай бұрын
@@Morenita570 You definitely need to stop adding water. However if you, as you say "put too much product" or "go to the extreme end with protein treatment" you're going to get what's coming to you cause you're doing TOO MUCH. The key word was and is BALANCE. Everything is poison and everything is medicine, depends on how and in what quantity you used it, that's why water damaged it to begin with. The amount of protein I need could be quarter what somebody else needs to BALANCE things out. Damage is damage even on a microscopic level (which I was talking about) and its best it is repaired while the issue is still microscopic and before it turns into a very obvious problem you can't remedy and need to cut off 4 months later. Damage is not a bad word. It's "ETRA dry and OVERLY moisturized" because it's been compromised i.e damaged, deal with it and it will be in tip top shape. The word may be vilified cause it is commonly associated with severe issues, splits to the root, clumps of hair falling and breaking off that the microscopic split ends you can't yet see but WILL see in a while(which is absolutely normal) being called damage will have one triggered. But I get you.

You ll sound so ignorant calling your hair natural. Like if you're not cutting a weave you're cutting your natural hair. The word natural doesn't mean if you have a chemical or not in your hair. It means if it comes out of your scalp it's natural. The definition of natural is real.

Please stop spreading misinformation. As a trichologist who is very passionate about natural hair care, it's Very worrying to see misinformation like this on social media. Words have meaning when it comes to hair care. You cannot refer to relaxed or Permed hair as natural.... Because it's not. YOU'LL look Hella crazy walking into an establishment to get a service done on your hair, and when your stylist asks whether your hair is natural and you say yes when in reality it's chemically processed with a relaxer or perm. Quick notes: Natural - Not chemically processed with a relaxer or perm Transitioning - formerly chemically processed, but have ceased doing touch ups with the goal of eventually having entirely natural hair Virgin - Not chemically processed to alter the hair colour with bleach or hair dye Real- no added hair extensions I hope you are open to educating yourself. DO NOT refer to your hair as natural if you have a relaxer. Also, if you are still using relaxers, you should stop immediately.
