Zinnias were my ‘gateway’ plant into the world of gardening. When I was a child, a bag of Fritos came with a packet of zinnia seeds. I cleared a little spot along our back fence and planted the seeds. I was about seven and I was hooked. Almost sixty years later, I still love zinnias!

Hi - new sub here, happy to find you. Lots of good info and you present it well, good job! Now I have to go see what else you've done. One thing, You Tube music is awful and you don't need it. It's loud enough when you're speaking that it's difficult to hear you. When you're not speaking, it blares. You are so well spoken that you can carry a video on your own. Keep up the good work!

Newbie to gardening and found this very helpful. I'm sort of taking up the mantle for my mom that has passed away. She loved being outside in her garden. It was her sanctuary away from the tribe of twelve children. I am now seeing the joy of gardening with it's endless possibilities! I agree with Sue Silva as far as you being knowledgeable and easy to follow. I took notes:)

Your fabulous video has made me fall in love with zinnias! I am at the end of my life, and I feel I am in the last hurrah of gardening. For some reason after years of ignoring gardening, I became obsessed with planting vegetables and flowers just when I became less able to move, bend over, and bend my knees! I have a raised bed- lots of containers and beautiful beds! Thank you for contributing to my joy! God bless you!

Hi Amanda! I accidentally clicked your video just now. I've been planting Zinnias since I was 15 y.o. in the Philippines and it brought joy within not only to myself but my family and people who passed by our house. They voiced out their appreciation which made me happy. I'm now 65 and and I've been here in USA for 10 years. I thought I wouldn't have the chance to plant them. When we moved to Utah this year, I tried to plant early in May but failed 3x due to unpredictable frost. Fortunately, I somehow succeeded and the flowers were beautiful! Thanks for your tips because I put shade on them, wet the petals and leaves, I fertilized every 2 weeks and I don't cut the flowers because I wanted to enjoy them longer. I learned a lot from you. I shared this video to my sisters and friends in the Philippines.🏵️❤️👍

So......never planted any flowers before. It’s always been vegetables. So I ordered veggie seeds from Baker Creek and they sent me free Zinnias with my order. Right now, they are only maybe an inch tall and I only germinated 14. I realize, now that I planted them wrong ( because I planted them in a tight group, but....this video taught me so much + just how many varieties there are AND how to do this correctly the next time. I will be growing them every summer from now on. Thanks so much!!!!!

Your voice is nice enough and therefore to my opinion you don’t need that annoying music in the background. I live in Mississippi and we have very hot humid summers. Plus red clay soil. So I have about given up on trying to plant flowers. They either don't cone up or if they do they burn up. A neighbor told me about zinnias 3 yrs ago. I've been amazed at the beautiful flowers that grow. They grow anywhere there's sun and dirt! I plant every year. We keep the seeds. I cut bouquets very often. Like you said they branch out and multiply. As long as I'm able I'll be planting these beauties!! I'm a new subscriber.

Great video, Amanda! Zinnias are such a fun flower, and they self-sow like crazy, too. In fact, they can quickly take over large areas which makes for a lovely ground cover! 😊 (They're easy enough to pull up, too, when necessary.) I totally agree about pruning back and cutting flowers often. Maybe more than any other plant I've seen, they respond by sending out more flowers. Thanks for sharing all the pretty photos! - Kim

Thank you for the tips. I bought some zinnia seeds from the dollar tree and thought what the heck if they don't germinate I am only out 25 cents.... they all sprouted. I can't wait to get them outside. Still almost a month to go before the last frost here in southern Ontario Canada. I hope I can keep them alive till then. :)

I grew maybe three zinnias last year. Only one grew well. I was unhappy with the powdery mildew. I did not cut the flowers and I'm sure thats what contributed to the poor growing. This year I started a bunch from seed and transplanted them when they got some true leaves, two sets. They are just now starting to bloom. Im glad I watched your video. I learned I should cut the flowers early and continuously. Will be looking at that tomorrow. And since you showed all those pictures of the different types it gave me an idea that I will use for next years garden. Thank you.
