I like how information dense this video is. The tips are relatively high level and complex for the usual jazz piano YT videos. Other’s would’ve probably broke this into 5 15 min lessons each, but here Jimin simply explains all the concepts and provide’s the guidance and demonstration, so that the viewer can later find out more and try things out themselves.

A note about the dominate sharp 11 is that the #11 tension will be the root note of the tritone sub of that chord which I'm sure has some fun potential for fancy passing chords and voice leading.

Hey Jimin, I just wanted to thank you for making this really helpful and insightful video. These are tips that I have been looking for to improve my jazz improvisation after having been trained “classically” all these while. I’ve attempted these tips and realized I’m still lacking the jazz accents that essentially gives that jazzy soul to the song. Just thinking it would be cool if you can make a video on that!

5:35 god i can listen to you simply play the f & d blue scale demonstration for hours !! I literally get eargasms and physically do the 'stank face' when people play any fast-paced groovy jazz/blues stuff. Thats my piano goal, to just play around and make jazzy tunes and improvise groovy sounds. One dayy

Great video. I'd love to hear some tips on how to create your own right hand bebop style jazz lines on different types of chords 😊
@JoeLinux2000
@JoeLinux2000 10 ай бұрын
In a II V Imi try playing a Major scale in you right hand 1/2 step higher than the starting II chord. (B maj scale over open Bb7 in your left) You can also play and chord in your right hand a tritone away from the left. (Open Bb7 in your left and a E maj triad with your right). Jimin will probably come up with a practice sheet on it. The trick is mastering tension and resolution. Your ear has to become the guide. Great jazz players are melodic as well as rhythmically solid. I think rhythm may be the hardest to master.

At 4:05: you say the voicing on the right hand is the same as the left hand, but it's not, it's an inversion: you start on the 3rd and play 3rd 5th 7th 9th (it's a 9 chord).

Totally awesome lessons!!! Have you ever played any "Dudley Moore Trio" stuff? cross between Errol Garner and Oscar Peterson. check out Dudley Moore trio - "just in time" and "Indiana" he used lots of 4 & 5 note triplets if that makes sense. lots of blues scale and lots of block chords in the right hand and some very fast right hand runs. very cool! PS: This girl is smokin' hot on the piano. amazing!!! I've been involved with pianos for many years. I had a piano shop, I imported pianos from China to sell here in the UK, I did piano transport and piano tuning for many years. These lessons are pure gold.
