If you experience lower back or upper back pain when using the treadmill, I’ll share 5 essential tips that should help you avoid getting pain especially if you use the incline.
Running or fast walking outside or on the treadmill was always so frustrating when I was trying to heal my disc herniation and piriformis syndrome. I learned a lot from this experience because I still wanted to get my cardio sessions done. These 5 techniques have helped me the most during the past few years.
Especially if you get sciatica pain when running on the treadmill or if you start to feel that nerve pain when on the incline.

I only get lower backpain on treadmill. Its hot and i want to run inside but always turns to back pain i have had a herniated disk in past. My treadmil is old and doesn't go lower than 1.5 incline.

Hello thanks too much for all information you have offered.My question is that is the manual treadmill good and safe for a person with low back hermination.that he must bend his back while walking or he will slip down if he doesn't catch the handles ????

Hi Lana, The only thing I'd be careful with is the incline. It can put more stress on the spine. And when you are walking, keep your core tight, and avoid letting your spine flex. Sometimes people will be watching their tablets or phone and you can see their back is rounding as they are walking...this should be avoided. In general I prefer to walk outside! But if you use the machine, start with shorter durations (10-15 minutes), and if that's fine, add 5 minutes the next session and maintain good posture when you are walking. i hope this helps!

After healing your piriformis, can you go back to hiking mountains, incline type activities?

Yes! I go hiking all the time. I also live in Vancouver with a lot of uphill streets. If I go for an intense long hike I always foam roll my hamstrings and hip flexors afterward and also you want to engage and keep your glutes working when going uphill. And keep your back straight. But yes, you can definitely ease back into these activities once you recover from piriformis syndrome It's possible! (I had piriformis syndrome for 7 years so I know how it feels to feel like you'll never be able to do those activities, but you will!)
