Okay, this is great. The new setup looks beautiful and the montage is just SO GOOD and satisfying to watch - of course the video is informative as usual, but it's just presented in a truly gorgeous way now! I wanted to address a problem that, perhaps, many folks out there face in their lives during voice practice, be it speaking practice or singing: and it's the lack of room for practice. Sometimes it's about not being able to make loud noises at all, e.g. living in a very quiet and sometimes dangerous neighbourhood, where anything louder than a half-whispering voice isn't really welcome. Other times there's basic discomfort, anxiety and fear that someone might hear you and judge you or criticize you or just telling you to stop doing what you're doing (sometimes in a pretty rude way, sadly). I'm sure I'm not the only one who struggles to find a safe (both mentally and physically, but mostly mentally safe, yeah) space for practice, so I really can't come up with any reasonable solutions aside from "practicing quietly" and "singing in your head" instead of openly vocalizing whatever you wish to sing. Could there be any other tips for "how to practice in places where you can't practice"? Because for me it's been like that for years and I don't see my life situation becoming any better in near future\\

I unfortunately cannot help you with that, but I absolutely relate to it. What helps me is the fact that I'm at home earlier than my partner, so I'm home alone for some time, and that I've started singing along to music which I like just to get comfortable with singing in my own home and to think less about my neighbours. If they don't complain about my masculine singing voice, then I think they will also not complain about my feminine singing attempts.

An example of not a voice but still what a Pitch Drone in practice sounds like is music done on a tagelharpa. It's a three stringed instrument where most of the musical notes are done with one or two strings, letting the remaining strings be a drone. This is not of course to practice, but you can then hear what it sounds playing around a drone sound.

One thing that is difficult about learning for me personally was going from a male voice to female voice, before I transitioned I had a decent singing voice, but I sung in baritone, so very chesty, so trying to sing from the head is like having to learn it all from scratch.

Wow this seems like very actionable advice, and there are so many thought-provoking ideas to explore. Seems like a really wholesome paradigm. I actually would like to learn to sing, at least a little, and this video is making me realize that it's very possible. I'm still just working on what seems like very basic voice training for speech. And I have made at least some progress. I got some positive feedback lately that surprised me. If I can find some time to try singing, it could only help build my confidence in voice in general. And singing is fun! I've always felt too self-conscious in various ways to really enjoy doing it around other people though. But that's something I might like to work through. Or rather, learn to play through! I just noticed in the description Z calls voice and singing an "infinite game". Seems like an apt description and one that reflects the broader learning mindset that she's advocating. Thanks for the inspiring video Z! 😊🔥💜

If you like Tally Hall, I highly recommend singing the entire Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum album start to finish (maybe not in one sitting like I did) and try to match pitch exactly (no octave shifts) because of how diverse the band's vocal ranges are. Preferably in a space where volume doesn't matter, because you'll wanna sing loud if your vocal register is on the low end like mine (my natural voice pitch is G2 I believe).

i struggle with voice training because every time i try i just start singing... my go-tos are Indigo by Summer Salt and Questions For The Universe and Serendipity by Laufey. i can hit the notes in those songs pretty well but i can't speak with a feminine voice to save my life 😭 for the listening to yourself section, do you mean recording your voice and listening back? or just listening by ear?

when I hum against the drone I find a pitch that makes the drone seem softer, almost like I can't hear it anymore, is this a matched pitch? When I move away from that pitch the drone seems to feel like its much more pressing on my ears like I can hear it so much more distinctly against my voice.
@TransVoiceLessons
@TransVoiceLessons 11 ай бұрын
Yes! That is a good sign you are matching pitch properly. However, this effect can mistaken by other acoustically pure intervals like the Octave (2/1) and the Perfect Fifth (3/2). Once you have the pitch matched if you slowly move away from it you'll hear the beating and roughness start to form, that's a very small difference in pitch (interval). Very small intervals cause the warbly/beating experience. Then as we continue to move away from the drone's pitch, the rocking will speed up till it's smoother and in different qualities. This is us moving through the interval spectrum. Certain pieces of this continuous interval spectrum have been plucked out to form our 12-note system or any pitch system for that matter. Pitch is continuous. The piano is not continuous, it has discrete tones. The voice is continuous, we have a free pitch spectrum and learning how to adjust our free pitch to find the sensations and intervals we want to sing or need to sing in a piece is what intonation is all about. :) great work!

I’m a trans girl too and I have a few questions. If I keep doing trans voice and sound like a woman all the time, does it change my structure of throat and will I be able to sound like a woman without doing it intentionally like I do now? Will I still have a original male voice? And is voice surgery necessary for me?
@ScribblyDoodle
@ScribblyDoodle 11 ай бұрын
Based on another video I watched from her (I think it was the evolution of her vocal transformation), yes you will eventually do it without thinking, and if you do it long enough you may even struggle to find your original male voice. It's like an extreme version of someone's accent changing after living somewhere else for a long time. But consistency is key.

yes, don’t do that. losing your voice after singing at all is a clear signal you’re laboring, straining, or overusing your voice. you need to build slowly towards your goal and listen along the way for sounds or indications of forced/labored/tense/rigid sound production. we never try to force the voice up. we coordinate a path of achieving the sound we want by listening as we slowly build towards our desired sound.
