The ollie is often considered the first trick that every skater should learn, however there are a number of foundational tricks that help skaters learn balance, board feel, foot placement, and weight distribution. It's SO important to become comfortable with your skateboard before you attempt to learn how to ollie. Try these 5 freestyle skateboarding tricks before you dive into ollie flips. Sure but nowadays any skater with basic moves should be able to ollie. The standards are different. Learning ollies after learning how to roll and tic-tacs is perfectly fine.

Number one trick to learn. “Ride”. Ride your board everywhere. Get comfortable on it. Then this video. Don’t underestimate how important just moving on the board is, it’s fundamental. Everyone wants to do tricks right away, but riding should be priority. All that being said, plenty of simple tricks to do in this video. All needed to get better. Hope everyone learns something or at least gets reminded of something and tries it out. More skaters the better!

If you are older and don’t want to get hurt, what is wrong with just riding the board? Why do you need to learn tricks. If you want to learn tricks you can’t be afraid to fall. I’m not trying to fall on my older bones and I’m wanting to get back on a board after having a heart transplant. I just miss having a reason to go outside.

Freestyle is awesome. I don't know if you're familiar with Rodney Mullen but he made a whole career as a freestyle skater in the 1980s and then he adapted those tricks to street style. He invented the kickflip, flat ground ollie, impossible, heel flip among other difficult tricks. If you're familiar with him, well then you know.

Yes indeed. Because it will make landing that much easier when you are comfortable on the board. I think back in the day a lot of people got discouraged because you had to learn to Ollie then kick flip. Most people couldn’t get it down and gave up I think. I just want to ride now, but I will go over these tricks again. I’ll leave out the ones that will scratch the bottom of my board though. Until I get a junk board.

Great tips! something I suggest to new skaters, is to learn how to fall. by tucking your head towards your chest and try to roll into the fall. watching people trying tricks down many stairs, you'll notice that sometimes they fall, get back up and try again because they dampen the impact by rolling into it, if not there would be no second try.

Freestyle is the basis for all street tricks. My 2 cents if it’s worth anything is Newtons theory of motion. Something that is in motion tends to stay in motion until it looses momentum. How you say does this help you in your OLLIES you ask? Well my pet peeve is people who learn Ollie’s not moving. It’s literally not helping you. Have you ever tried to stand on a bike withought moving ? You fall over correct ? Well it’s the same with the skateboard. If you are rolling forward you gain stability. After you master going straight fast you will have stability and you can start to learn to tap your tail . You don’t have to nail it the first time and go huge. I prefer learning slowly step bye step. Always moving forward and faster as you feel comfortable.. If you try to learn these things in the grass as this guy says it’s my opinion that you get into bad habits. Big Ollie’s need a lot of speed and learning to float your Ollie’s is very important. You cannot learn these things standing still, and even worse I see guys standing, still practicing these things, not facing forwards because they’re not going forward, so they get into this really bad habit of looking sideways and cranking their Ollies to their back and the whole idea of an alley is to go forward and over the obstacle The best way to do that is to be almost looking completely forward and learning how to go fast wow using leverage and cracking your board up into your legs.. Don’t get into bad habits. Remember, you should be squared up. Almost forward. Or at,least semi squared up… I hope some of this help somebody ..keep trying and have fun. That’s the most important part.

Quick question- Does it matter which way your skateboard is facing???
@GSBro
@GSBro 8 күн бұрын
There is a "Nose" and "Tail" side to a board, so try to have the nose in front when in your normal stance (regular or goofy) but ofc there's tons of times where you'll be riding with the tail in front, especially right after landing a trick. Either way, not too big of a deal which way your skateboard is facing, BUT the way to tell which is which is: The Nose will be slightly wider and the Tail will be slightly narrower. Look at the curve of the board on both ends, you should be able to make out that there's a slight difference between the two.
